He's got 1 in 10 this season. If as you say his numbers will be comparable to other strikers in the league at the end of the season, he's got a bloody long way to go!
Perhaps meant comparable to Benteke?

Hopefully not obviously

Looked lively when he came on but feck me he needs to learn how to proper hit a football. That shot from the 16 yard box was a fecking joke. Had me tearing my hair out.

We’re always a Better team with him than without because he can actually keep the ball in tight spaces.

People need to realise he remains the glue in our attack. He’s still miles better than Cavani. Makes it all the more strange that his critics are jumping in after the Leicester game when he didn’t even play badly.

How do we use him? He sulks if he start and doesn't play well. He came on as a sub with a good opportunity to make an impression and he screw up the shot at the edge of the box. Potential is really wearing thin at his age.

Have to wonder did he work on that shot in the training ground. Seemed like he skies it every single time.

I think so too, honestly. His lack of goal contributions is a worry but he adds a lot to our general play that Cavani and Greenwood really don’t.

Might not be scoring this season but he allows others to play better by being able to control and hold on to the ball while playing others in. He’s very unselfish compared to Rashford and Greenwood who don’t always look for a player in a better position.

Super evident we are a stronger team with him but the cliched lazy French stereotype regurgitating crowd won't notice it.

He's calm and composed, even when things getting heated up and there's not much time left in the game.

As always exceptional close control.

His movement in recieving the ball started to open passing options up a bit, but he couldn't hit a barn door with a rocket launcher right now.

Excellent and crucial impact when coming on, hold up play, energy, dribbling and passing excellent.

Still can’t hit a barn door though.

See goals against Everton x2 and Chelsea. That’s a move he and Pogba have done a few times. Difference is normally he sticks it top corner.

Does seem to be in a total finishing slump right now but that game was crying out for him to fill the spaces Bruno had vacated, get on the ball and start passing it about. Wasn’t a great performance but his presence certainly improved us when he came on.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
The instant he came on he looked the most likely to get us a goal, either by creating a chance for someone else, winning a penalty, or getting past a couple of defenders to score himself. He just tends to combine with other players better than anybody else.

His form has quite obviously been on an upswing over the last month or so, with that unfortunate hiccup against Leicester the main blemish.

Added a lot when he came on, his close control and dribbling made us a lot more dangerous. I think he's really important in games against deep defences, his ability to drop into pockets of space and run at players opens up the opposition. However his composure in front of goal is still a worry, snatched at the shot that came to him on the edge of the area when he probably had time for a touch. Hope he plays through it.

Good job we don't play him in position where he's expected to score goals.

Yes those were my thoughts as well. But what can we do. He actually is very important to our attacking football but his shooting boots seem missing this season. I'd very much welcome.another striker here though. Both him and Marcus tend to miss too many chances.

From the Leicester game:

I thought he had a bright first half (when we struggled to hold the ball, he was the only consistent outlet, and played well back to goal).
Once again, same story. Been poor all season but he's irreplceable in the attack. The only one, even counting Cavani, who can function back to goal. I'm hoping for a Rashford-Martial-Cavani frontline, with Cavani taking Greenwood's place, because Martial is needed for his hold-up and runs, and Rashford is better on the left, and links better with Martial there, and Cavani has played on the right before for Uruguay, and has a natural shot cutting in (like the Everton goal).

With you all the way on this, but it's an unpopular point of view, so get ready to duck.

6 goals and assists in his last 4 games before tonight.
1 goal and 3 assists in 11 PL games, though. Don’t get me wrong — I’m a big fan, but it cannot be denied that his numbers aren’t near good enough this season.

If we were playing 2 strikers he'd be an excellent second striker next to a big tall striker

Too bad the 4-4-2 is out of date

No they arent, I agree. But it's clear he started the season absolutely abysmally and has got better. Not great still, and his finishing is still way off, but he's getting better.

The interesting thing is if we become even average in our chance conversion, the second half of the season could be real fun.

If I was Ole I'd maybe start with the

Martial - Cavani - Rashford

Formation for a bit, he can then also bring on Greenwood on for Cavani which I wouldn't mind seeing for a change.

However, I feel like Ole knows what he is doing anyway.

His finishing is just appalling this season.

All round he's been ok , especially recently, but he needs to start scoring regularly.

i think that’s how he would start if the schedule wasn’t so intensive. He’s rotating at the moment.

His actual ability has been fine this season outside of scoring. He'll get there because finishing is his best asset and he didn't just lose that. Hopefully he sorts it pout soon because an in form Martial has the ability to make us challenge. We do need someone more clinical for the CF position but for mow he's the best we have so lets hope he gets there soon. I'd never look to sell him though, as long as he's happy, because some seem to forget that a title wining side is abut quality across the squad and he has undoubted quality.

Thought he played well. He hasn't scored enough goals this season, but i prefer him on the pitch than on the bench. Just need to finally find his shooting boots.

He is taking an extra touch now and that is creating the problems for him. Before he would have scored without taking that extra touch. That extra touch also gives defenders to put in a block. I would play Rashford, Martial and Cavani against Villa.

VP has already pulled you up here but it’s pretty impressive to read a post criticising posters for not thinking a player is good enough long term as United’s number 9, only to then himself admit later in that same post that if a proper number 9 came in, he’d have to make way because he’s not a true CF.

Has to be a wind up surely?

Of course Martial will hit one of his good spells soon, is anyone doubting that?
It is impressive if that was what I was doing, my post had nothing to do with those valid criticisms, it's the concept that Martial brings nothing to the team, or he's weak mentally, or whatever other nonsense body language and psychologist experts have to say about him. He's one of United's most important players, whether it's leading the front line (which I don't think he's good enough to do consistently yet because he's only had one season and may not be suited for it long-term), or coming from the left wing. The team simply flows and plays better when he's on the field. Let me know where you see one criticism in my post you and @VP89 quoted that's targeted at the CF talk.

Just needs a goal in the premier league to respark his confidence. I think martial is the biggest confidence player I've seen at United. Everything else he's been fine with.

No disrespect to other forwards, but our attack loses panache without him something that makes us more watchable. I hope we never regress to long balls to a target man as was in this Wolves game. Acceptable long balls should be through balls.
