Just seen with Valladolid winning they're now in La Liga bottom 3 with 15 points form 16 games.

Have won 1 of their last 12 league games and of course in covid season madness that was 4-1 v Real Madrid.

Would be one of the biggest relegations we've seen from a major euro league in recent times. Valencia won La Liga twice in 2000s and made two CL finals. They've also recently won copa del rey in 2019 and played in CL in previous two seasons.

It's been coming though. Been horribly run for a few years now and sold some key players over the summer. That said their squad still has Cillissen, Gaya, Guedes, Wass, Cheryshev, Kevin Gamiero and Maxi Gomez so good level of experience still there and they've got some exciting young players like Musah and Kang Lee.

Their last remaining option is to give Voro yet another spell as caretaker manager. He's actually done brilliantly in last 5 years in coming in a couple of times when they've been really struggling mid season and comfortably kept them up so will likely happen in next few weeks.

This is one to watch I suspect. Going to be a higher points total to stay up in La liga than prem given everyone from 17th above is averaging at least a point a game currently.

It all went downhill when they decided to get rid of Emery. Then all the problems stemmed from there.

I think Peter Lim's takeover in 2014 and some of the shady dealings since then have also played a part.

They are in a difficult situation because the fans are completely against the owners.
The daughter was clear in social networks reminding the fans that they are the owners and will do whatever they want.
Yet they are trapped, waiting to know if Lim is going to finish the stadium or not.
The owners have faced off against former players, sports directors, and charismatic players who have been given away.

It was also said that they wanted to encourage the growth of young players, and that is why they chose an obedient coach, however
Ferrán Torres is gone and Kangin Lee will leave as soon as he can.

A former member of the board denounced Lim, Mendes and Murthy for corruption and laundering but the complaint was dismissed.

Now the victim of all this will be Gracia, who thought(I think that very naively) that the club was going to bring signings.
They have squad to be in Primera, but many times this issue is psychological and the team simply does not work, as happened to Atlético years ago.
In addition, other candidates to go down, such as Cádiz or Alavés are doing better, even Celta, who has completely changed with the last coach.

That club is absolute shambles, ran by probably very corrupt people, otherwise absolute losers without a clue how to run an institution. Also let's not forget they have a huge concrete block with the shape of a stadium with the works stopped for many years because of lack of money. Too bad as i really fancied their 00s team. That attack with villa, silva, mata, joaquin and vicente was something great to watch

Another big team in contention for relegation. The Yellow Submarine got relegated the season they were in the Champions League.

What's worse from a Utd perspective is the Class of 92 posse are close associates with Lim too :nervous: Probably another reason why Gary Neville pussyfoots around the Glazer Family, since his mate Peter is a club owner who gave him a pretty awesome gig at Valencia and invested in Salford City.

Forgot about the new stadium. Wasn't it suppose to be complete around 2010 but the credit crunch stopped everything.

Never been to the Mestella to watch a game but it's a very unique stadium, must have the steepest stands in europe. Valencia fans would be setting fire to it if they were allowed in this season!

Think Schalke getting relegated from Bundesliga would be bigger, if both came to pass. Valencia been flirting with relegation for a few seasons in recent years, but always seemed to dig themselves out.

Schalke actually deserve a thread of their own. Sitting rock-bottom, no wins this season with a ridiculous -31 GD.

Here’s one to watch: currently, they are winless in 30 (!!!) games. The all-time anti-record for a professional german club is 31 winless games. Set by none other than Tasmania Berlin so you can imagine what kind of a shit stain record this is. Their next game is against Hoffenheim so they are 90 minutes away from going in the history books.

Oh Schalke are done but I thought their squad was awful last season and they were lucky to get as many points on the board as they did up to xmas given their form in second half of the season.

Compare the squads though and Valencia one is miles better in terms of quality.

Schalke were in Bundesliga 2 in late 80s/90s so it's not quite a Hamburg style ever present in top flight. Valencia spent 1 season out of top flight since second world war.

Valencia have seemingly been broke for over a decade. Maybe it’s just one of those weird feelings but it seems they’ve had to have a few fire sales over the last ten years

Even if they survive this season they'll sell all their decent players next summer and it's game over for them anyway.

Sacking Marcelino, who led them to back to back top 4 finishes and a Copa del Rey win, at the start of last season was an incredibly stupid decision, though he did have a difficult relationship with Lim. Apparently Lim was actually annoyed at the Copa del Rey win in 2019, as he instructed Marcelino to play weakened teams in the competition (which doesn't offer a great deal of prize money) and focus on La Liga and Champions League qualification The fact that Marcelino was able to deliver both a top 4 finish and major silverware, didn't please Lim, whose ego was bruised by his manager not listening to him.

Losing their club captain Parejo for free during the summer (he said that he wanted to retire at the club and played very well there during the past 9 years), was catastrophic. To compound matters, he joined their local rivals Villarreal (managed by Emery who was treated shabbily at the club in the past) and scored the winning goal against them in the local derby earlier this season (who didn't see that coming !). They also lost Coquelin on a free transfer to Villarreal, and Garay (previously linked with United during every transfer window) on a free transfer in bitter circumstances. Apparently at times last year players were receiving IOU notes instead of their wages. Ferran Torres made it clear how happy he was to move away from the club and its poisonous atmosphere.

Valencia have never been far from a crisis one or off the pitch in the past, but this current one looks to be on a different level to the previous ones, and I agree that even if they stay up this season there's a good chance that they'll be merely circling the drain before they eventually go down in the not too distant future. The contrast between them and Villarreal, who are exceptionally well run, and were apparently one of the few debt free clubs in any of the major European leagues in the past, is stark.

On the plus side, no matter how much they struggle they can always be relied on to take points off both Barcelona and Real Madrid every season. Real haven't done the double over them in La Liga since Mourinho's first season in charge in 2010/2011, and I think that Barca have only done the double over them once since then when Enrique was at the helm.
