Anyone else playing this?

I grabbed it a few weeks a go but rage quit after putting hours into my base only for it to disappear because I didn't log in for 24 hours.

Anyway they've recently updated a few things (taking Zombies out being the main one) and I've decided to go back on.

As usual it's you standard survival game (as seems to be the norm nowadays) where you gather resources, craft and survive. It seems to have taken huge amounts of inspiration from Minecraft and DayZ.

It's gained a bit of a rep online due to the take no prisoner PvP servers and the fact you start out with your Johnson hanging out.

Watched a few gameplay vids of it, seems like it has a lot of potential.

@Nickosaur It was the potential that made me put down the full price on it. I'm intrigued how it'll develop over coming months.

The devs seem to be paying a lot of attention to the community and letting them help shape the finished product. For an early alpha it is well polished.

My only gripe atm is its a very lonely game. I avoid other players like the plague as 99% will shoot on sight and that can undo hours of work.

Yeah, with games like this and DayZ there will always be the risk of better equipped players just destroying you, which I can imagine is very frustrating.

I've just checked the website and they seem to be updating it frequently, I can't really commit to much gaming right now as I'm pretty busy with uni but hopefully this continues to improve/grow and I can check it out in the summer.

I've joined a server that is PvE with PvP areas. Gives the best of both worlds. It's the first time I've met and worked alongside someone else. Made it a completely different experience.

I'd recommend this game especially at £15, and no doubt it'll be in Steam sales in coming weeks. One thing though is I think it could eat up a lot of time.

I bought it last night. First impressions are good.

Got myself a little shelter sorted, got a few things good going on then shot in the head with an arrow while I'm hunting wild boar. Live and learn.

Ok, now I'm annoyed. Ran for ages, getting stone, metal, wood. Got loads of meat too, took ages to find some deers.

Then someone walks up to me, shoots me in the head. Time to find a PvE server me thinks.

I'm on a PvE server.

Add me on Steam, I could do with a buddy to play with/watch my back.

My Steam ID is rezinator86.

I won't be on until tomorrow anyway.

The server I'm on is pretty good. Other players seem friendly enough on it.

I know how frustrating it can be to work for ages to lose everything. Working alongside someone else should alleviate some of the frustration.

This game is fecking amazing. Been playing it since last night, it really has you on full alert at all times, unlike something like Minecraft. In Minecraft you expect to see AI characters in certain areas, in this game you could go 5 hours without seeing another player, and when you see them you have no idea whether they are friendly or a raider. Makes scavenging that much harder.

Sorry to necro this thread but are any of you guys playing this? I decided to take the plunge last night and it's fun although quite scary.

I thought I'd done something when one of my old threads suddenly appeared.

Not played this is years as it became too much of a chore to keep up with the clans of griefers. Last time I played it was possibly the most toxic online game I'd ever played

All it takes is 1 large streamer to blow a game up again, this time it looks like loads of them though, all playing on the same server.

Why has it blown up on twitch all of a sudden?
I suppose a couple of big streamers got into it? After Phasmophobia, Fall guys and Among Us, Rust seems to have provided a good platform for collaborative content and a bit of RP-ing for the streamers. And the twitch content from it has been quite good actually.

They have made a big streamer server which a lot of the top names play on. It's being infiltrated by CS pros though so the content creators are getting wrecked

It'll die down again as the average gamer buys it and realises it's too hardcore and toxic for them, but it's never gone away as it is quite fun when you get a good group. My eldest plays it all the time.

There are a couple of big servers now. One for PvP and another mainly for RP. The second one has been quite fun and don't think it has been infiltrated much.
But you're right it's not quite accessible for a casual gamer without a good group with them.

Wasn't there a big argument between the RP and the hardcore nuts? The guy I tend to watch that played for a little bit got put off by the arguments.

The Rust community has always been toxic as feck so i'm hardly shocked.

Yeah some just aren't a fan, or don't know how to do it, of the RP. So it has caused tensions.

Initially, they had only one server for all the streamers. Some wanted to do RP and some were hardcore PvP and kill-on-sight. So I think the dispute was should they play on the server for content or to just win. tbf I don't blame any of the sides really. Right now, it seems better with two separate servers such that the streamers have a choice on how they want to play it.
