Let's hope the decision making is better in the Liverpool game, though given this is coming after the Gurning one's rant who knows!

Even a Liverpool fan (who says every decision goes our way) said our goal being disallowed was "harsh"

Friend used a lot of time to tell Maguire he was not happy with Cavani's protests (mostly after Cavani got an elbow to his face that went unpenalised). Throughout, Burnley was allowed to play their special variety of foot-rugby. But Maguire got ruled out because he happened to have his arm still attached to his shoulder while jumping. The mind wobbles...

Maguire scored a fantastic goal there, that was a disgraceful decision.

    AWB is awful.

Rashford back to walking football and feels as if he is the most important person in the world. RUN FFS!!!

To see Ole smiling as we walked off at half time...I don’t get it

You just know Burnley are going to get a chance on a knockdown header from Barnes where he does the exact same thing Maguire got his goal disallowed for.

I'm still fuming about the ridiculous decisions by the ref. What the feck. What a cnut.
    It’s feckin terrible. Absolutely terrible.

Cannot believe he’s whistled for that and it’s a few seconds after when Maguire is running off, he thought about it and still whistled, absolute feckin cretin.

Also how long do we reckon was actually played there. I’d hazard a guess we were only actually in play there for 20 minutes what with VAR, the time wasting, the constant fouls. Played right into Burnley’s hands.

Playing slow players like Matic and Pogba playing deep is playing into the Burnley hands who are pushing forward. They are getting far more of the ball than I would ever have expected. Matic and Pogba provide no energy and not enough creativity.

Whatever, I take back from what I said... Shaw didn't get the ball at all.
Clearly did touch it first but then his momentum took him into the player.

The silly move was he twisted his leg to take him down at the same time.

Rashford is beginning to infuriate me more than Martial.

Appreciate he's on the right but its like he's sulking out there.

At least with Martial that's his natural state!

Why do all of our players stop and pause whenever we get the ball?
My biggest problem with us. We take too long to move the ball. We should be dribbling while waiting to make decisions, rather than coming to a complete stop. It's mindboggling. Baily seems to be the only one in the back who is willing to move the ball.

If the ref had blown and given Shaw a card for that tackle straight away I would have no complaints. He got the ball, but that doesn't mean a foul can't take place.

Everything after that was a mess.
He gives Brady a yellow when it probably should have been a red.
Overturns it and goes back to the Shaw incident. Which I think is a new implementation of VAR for this match.
Rescinds the Brady yellow, when it's still a reckless challenge regardless of whether that phase of play is considered null.
Then Maguire's goal, which will probably be repeated every weekend of this season without a shrug, gets disallowed.

Again, VAR will come under the spotlight, but it's the baffoons using it that need to be looked at.

I must be mental bias but I don't see the fuss over the Shaw tackle. Clearly gets the ball and the follow through is perfectly natural albeit unfortunate for the Burnley player.

Imo he's brought that back to save him from having to send Brady off for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity

The maguire goal is nonsense of course

Been a cracking watch tbf! Enthralling stuff

    Come on boys!
I don’t think it’s mental bias. 10 years ago it isn’t a foul but the game has gone soft. He won the ball, followed through but it wasn’t like his studs were up, he turns his foot sideways to his shin.

Yep! I’d love to see that stat, felt like the ref was slowing the game down constantly.

Two: how on earth was that a foul by Shaw? It’s a 50/50 challenge where both players fly in and for my money both touch the ball, the follow through looks bad in SLOW MOTION, how is that reflective of real time play?
The slowmo vs realtime is irrelevant. Every foul is evaluated in slowmo. It is a clear foul - no questions about that... They are spending the time to assess if it is a red card or not. The fact that he does touch the ball probably makes them conclude with a yellow, which I agree with, but the way Shaw follows through with his studs and hits high on the shin makes it a clear foul. In general, getting to the ball doesn't make everthing OK. For example, even if you hit the ball clearly, but your foot is showing studs, with great force and high on the oppositions leg - it will be a red even if you are going through the ball. It's a bigger question if this is a "clear and obvious" error enough by the ref for them to go that far back in time.

I agree that the Cavani situation should result in a red and the disallowed goal by Maguire does look soft. The defender gets rewarded for backing into Maguire and not jumping. It's the arm in the upper back from Maguire that's the issue.

Very tight match going on here. We really deserve to be winning though. As the match went on we were really the better team.

If you were allowed to swear in the Caf I’d say the decision to disallow Maguire’s brilliant goal was ...

Why are Redknapp and Neville refusing to acknowledge Shaw clearly getting a touch on the ball before he makes contact with the player?
This. Neville p*see me off no end with this, Gary is a thick tw@t

Clearly makes contact with the ball and catches the side of his shin, doesn’t even make a decent contact with the player.

The only thing more infuriating than VAR is people not knowing the rules and bashing VAR. Learn, then comment, please. As the Shaw-incident happens first and gets punished, the second decision kind of never happened. Unless it’s violent conduct, which this wasn’t of course. So the yellow is washed away correctly, as it would if it was a red card. First is first.

As for Shaw, the «I touched the ball so then I can do whatever I want with my studs»-rule does not exist, never has. Him touching the ball (if at all, I didn’t really see it) saves him from a red I guess. He correctly gets the yellow for the follow-through, going into the tackle at that pace is endangering the player with your lead foot, studs out. Amazing this still needs to be explained after hundreds of similar incidents.

Glad none of these got a red card, even Brady was somewhat covered by Mee who could intervene once Cavani gets to the ball. Shaw also didn’t massacre the other player, although not a good tackle.
Absolute bollocks of the highest order. The second event did happen because everyone on the pitch was playing as if the game was live, which it was. You can't just delete a physical event from happening, like we have access to a time machine, because there was a foul beforehand AFTER a review of all events.

The second event happened because Cavani has stud marks down the back of his leg, or did they "kind of not happen" as well? I know the rules but that doesn't mean they're correct. Both players should have been dealt with as if it happened during the flow of the game, which it absolutely did. Dragging the free kick back for the Shaw foul is also fine as long as you deal with whatever happened after it instead of just deleting it from history.

And as for Shaw's tackle, I never said he didn't follow through and it wasn't a foul. I agree it was. So take your patronising tone elsewhere.
