How about Totti. Similar to Gerrard where he is romanticized for his loyalty which overrated his contributions.

Nesta is probably the most underrated. Generally considered the best cb in the world in the early 2000s, now seemingly forgotten due to people overrating the cannavaros and maldini( due to making him seem fantastic for ALL of his career)

You can laugh all you want but its obvious you dont know much about pirlo and have followed his flasy moments. Pirlo is not in the league of scholes and shouldnt even be discussed.

A great player but a luxury who played as a third in a three man midfield.

I dont blame you though internet and a few flashy performances have people believing pirlo was some maestro.
If being a central part of a World cup victory, two Champions League trophies, two Champions league finals, Euros runner-up and a whole bunch of league titles are down to just a few flashy performances as a passenger, Pirlo is more of a maestro than thought.

The only people who seem to overrate Pirlo are those who "discovered" him when he played against England in 2011. A little bit like how Ibrahimovic was perceived until that legendary performance.

Robert Pires. I used to hate the way gooners used to worship him as if he's second coming of Jesus or something. Shite player who was made to look better because of quality around him.

No one is saying he was bad at all but Scholes has never been deemed surplus to requirements his whole career while Pirlo has been a few times if I'm not mistaken.

Once, at Milan. Like Scholes for England. Who would you blame today - the players or the management? Very strange argument.

? He had a dip for Milan between 2008 until his move to juve, where he promptly went back to being the best midfielder in the league and won it for them. Scholes is the one who wasn't starting CL finals, not Pirlo...

This made me chuckle. Scholes is great and all but calling Pirlo, who could actually qualify to be in all time world XI as overrated is not only laughable but downright disrespectful.

Now, i dont watch City a whole lot, but Sterling is high up the list for me.

I swear, whenever i tune in, he is on the screen missing the most obvious of chances.

What's disrespectful is the players you would have left out to have freaking pirlo in an all time world XI. @Nedved , here's why I maintain Pirlo is overrated.

Gerrard - always seemed more about himself then the team, dont think he was a top CM player played better as a second striker/10 for me
Bergkamp - good player but seemed to never produce enough for me, had all the talent as well, did help change football in this country
Pirlo - people remember to much the performance v England when he was superb but he had the freedom of the park, good player but rated far to highly
Buffon - alwasy errors in him and never seems to get the blame for things,
Silva - another good player but just didnt do enough in the biggest games, CL he was always usually poor when it mattered

Mad that people are saying that the likes of Silva and Pirlo are overrated. Silva is one of the greatest attacking midfielders this league has seen this century, along with Cesc. Pirlo wasn't a versatile player but he could do his job as a DLP better than anyone and was one of the main reasons why Italy won the world cup and reached the finals of Euro 2012.

Might be an unpopular opinion, but I have never really seen the hype with Alisson. Liverpool fans make it seem like he is prime DDG and Neuer rolled into one. I guess when you are used to the likes of Karius and Mignolet, he seemed like the greatest ever. The scousers are the masters of bigging up their players. I remember they used to hype up someone called Jay spearing as well.

Allison is not as good of a shot stopper as DDG, Neuer but if you watch him closely he is more like VDS.. looks clumsy but somehow stops the goals..

It’s got to be Scott Parker surely?

FWA player of the year the season he captained West Ham to 20th in the league was laughable.

Henderson getting it last year was also pretty daft and I don’t rate him but at least he achieved something.

No checks to see what this thread is about, I see.

Marcelo Salas. Used to think he was the perfect centre forward in his first couple seasons at Lazio. He was just a good player in good form. Chilean fans may argue with that but his club record isn't spectacular.

It really is quite odd.
Give 'em all points for off topic, I say. Even if the thread was the one they think it is, then they'd be contributing to one so terminally dull they'd deserve penalising anyway.

I know, overrated/underrated player threads are the most boring ones. This thread as it was intended was much more interesting.

Seems you have bad judgement for overrating the likes of Pepe and Havertz.
Seems you have shocking judgement if you think that the two mentioned players who both cost in excess of 70 million quid and are not first team regulars for their current sides are not overrated

James Rodriguez. In that World Cup, he seemed a really good prospect.
The fact is that he is a bit too soft and hides under pressure a lot.

Take your own advice
Oh, for the love of God, we're not being subtle here. Read the OP. It's a thread asking who you overrate/overrated. Not who you think others overrate.

What is this crap about Pirlo? One of the greatest midfielders of all time, an absolute genius. Why would anyone think he is overrated?

Yeah those 2 are just the blue eyed boys of the press.
Parker is a terrible manager as well. Sick the sight of him right back to his sun pat days.

I would go for

Robinho - both in England and italy, he was hyped to be sine kind of world class player. Truth is, he was bang average.

Rafael Van der vaart - when he just a arrived in Madrid I expected him to be the new Zidane or something. Then whent on to have a career in HSV and Fc Midtjylland...

Piatek - for a moment I believed he was on his way to become a world class goalgetter. -that didn’t end up well

Did I comment on your opinion initially or did you comment on mine?
How is that relevant? Do you know what this thread about? If you post a bunch of names, you must surely have overrated them at some point, or didn't understand the thread at all. Either own up to overrating the likes of Pepe or admit you didn't understand that the thread and move on, instead of being overly defensive and making me have to explain all of this out to you.

As per the OP, it’s Januzai. Thought he was a terrific player, and going to be great for us. The next superstar.

got put on a pedestal far too quickly. I suppose he was the only bright spot during the Moyes disaster. But proved never to be good enough.
