Let’s get at these, especially if Williams or Henderson are playing CB for them. Be vigilant but attack hard too.

Not expecting much as we’ve not beaten any of other big six sides in league of cup since City last season (might not have even scored from open play since then either). Seem to have run out of ideas in these games but hopefully it’s not the case tomorrow.

We need to make sure we can switch the play quickly to overcome their press. We need good distribution out from the middle to wide areas, and wan bissaka needs to have the confidence to push past his man. I worry we'll go 5 at the back and use telles or williams to create that width. Hopefully we can play with pogba and fernandes as wide forwards that drift across as needed. Maybe have rashford and martial split the full backs to stretch them.

Otherwise we face the issue of being pushed back on the left hand side.

I think it would be a mistake not to play Rashford off the left where he can make those devastating out to in runs. He has the beating of TAA all day long for me.

I hope to see the same back four as against Burnley, a midfield of McTominay and Fred, with Pogba in the number 10 position.

Up front, I'd go with the pace of Rashford and Greenwood from the left and right flanks respectively, with Bruno in a false 9 role. He already plays that high most games, and I think him and Pogba getting on those balls in those spaces in front of the Liverpool defence could cause them a lot of problems.

The key is how often we can get the ball to Pogba and Bruno in those pockets, with time to turn and release Rashford and Greenwood. If we pick our moments, I can see a first half resembling our counter attacking play against City at the Etihad in 2019, but with hopefully more control. If we take our chances, I think we'll have a really good chance.

Just don't do stupid stuff like playing Rashford in RW or going for some crazy formations with 3 at back and all.
    Never works.

Liverpool's last league defeat was April 2017, and our performance in bigger games haven't been all that great since covid. Call it a hunch but I think this is unfortunately where our fairy tale ends and we're given a reality check.

Wouldn't mind this being quoted and ridiculed with a bunch of green smiley responses if we do win tomorrow.

I'd agree with you on this; it's tempting to play Rasford on the right in order maintain some width, but it robs us of the opportunity to use his pace to attack Fabinho's CB partner, which I feel is our best chance to win this game. I am however concerned about the midfield diamond's lack of width, and the possibility of Liverpool's fullbacks running riot. So I think your idea of Bruno as a false nine with Rashford and Greenwood high and wide is a good compromise. The question is whether Ole will start Greenwood when his form has been hit and miss this season, but I do think it's the best solution.

Don't get too high or too low regardless of tomorrow's result. It's always a great feeling when playing meaningful matches, especially when it's against a rival and both clubs are battling at the top of the table at the moment.

Liverpool should be sharper playing at home, they have a tremendous home record the past couple of years, and most importantly, they feel threatened.

Hoping for a positive result tomorrow then a testy match against Fulham to mark the official halfway point of the season.

This is the team that started at anfield last season:
    D De Gea
    V Lindelöf
    H Maguire (c)
    L Shaw
    A Wan-Bissaka
    Fred
    N Matic
    B Williams
    A Pereira
    D James
    A Martial

There was absolutely no goals in that team apart from martial who missed a good chance. We simply dint have the squad or team to attack Liverpool and Ole knew this. Also Liverpool had their full team that way and they deserved the win.

Moving to todays game the whole squad is different and more importantly we now have a lot of goal scorers in the team and on the bench.
I am certain ole will play without the ball . I think we can keep Liverpool out and hurt them on the counter. This would be my team

    De gea
    Wan bissaka
    Bailly
    Maguire
    Shaw
    Fred
    Mctominay
    Pogba
    Bruno
    Martial
    Rashford

    Subs
    Cavani
    Greenwood
    Van de Beek
    Telles
    James

That's a tight bench with people who can come on and change the game or help deploy a new system. I am quiet confident on this one. Liverpool are not what everyone thinks they are. They won the league when literally everyteam was in transition and city who were their main rivals had injuries. They also were lucky in a sense that they played the same team week in week out without going through any injuries.

I feel teams have figured Liverpool out and they don't have many other different systems to switch to if their plan A is not working. I have never seen Klopp going 3 at the back or a 4-4-2. He simpler relies on his front 3 and a very functional midfield to pull him out. It will be interesting to see how he adjusts when he faces a pure counter attacking side like United.

With all being said this is my prediction.

    0-1 bruno ( penalty 95')

Yep! Fulham is the game we need to 100% win, any result today is a big bonus.

I think it'll be Rashford on the right. He'll want to play Pogba given his recent form, but I don't think he'll want him in CM. Fine with that really.

3-0 up after 24 minutes only to be pegged back to 3-2 before HT.

Razor to grab a point with 10 to go.

We’ll start with a defensive setup I think, we won’t risk getting smashed. That said, I won’t be surprised to see Pogba start, maybe Pogba-Fred in the middle?

I don’t think Liverpool will go gung ho into this one either as they’ve arguably more to lose.
