Lindelof starting ahead of Bailly is a really poor choice

Ffs it’s like Ole dropped prime Ramos. For all the good things Bailly showed, he’s still the most mental nutjob I’ve seen and you really rather want something else against Liverpool at Anfield. Lindelof rarely makes a mistake, his problem is he is physically weak, but who is going to bully him? Fecking Firmino?
People seem to oddly be overlooking that Bailly might have a knock or something. Bearing in mind he's probably never played more than 3-4 games in a row without some sort of madness going on, why would that be different now?

We may also have made a call that Firmy has no pace, so we don't need pace in the middle.
Not sure I'd have made that call with Salah or Mane often turning up central, but who knows!

Good line up. 50/50 on Lindelof but I still don't trust Bailly not to drop a clanger despite his recent good displays.

Martial is better than Cavani and suits counter attacking much more. It’s great he’s available.

Really struggling to find the logic in breaking up our best CB pairing in the biggest match or the year so far

Looking like it'll be up to the attack to have a chance as I've completely lost faith in that specific backline selection. They've allowed far too many easy goals this season against worse opposition

Lindelof is first choice. He is carrying a knock so will get rested.. but if he is fit, he is ahead of Bailly. A couple of games against average opponents doesnt/shouldnt change that.

The tantrums over Bailly are hilarious  . He's as dodgy as Lindelof is and twice as likely to get injured or sent off making a stupid challenge. There's nothing to choose between them as players - neither of them are top class centre backs but will do a job.

Could use them not having Thiago

Why Lindelof over Bailly, who has done really well lately?

Hopefully having Mc T and Fred means Pogba can be used further forward

Lots of nonsense IMO about selection of Lindelof. Bailly's been really good lately sure, but it's quite some time since VL had a bad game too. And this game will suit him.

I really think we should be starting Bailly but I'll withhold criticism. However, we better not fecking defend as some relegation fodder against a team with no CBs.

Harsh on Bailey he’s not only brought the best out of Maguire but his pace as given the whole back line more options to push up, big mistake imo.

This is by far the best chance to beat Liverpool since 17-18. They're still a great team but come on, there's not gonna be a better chance than this looking at their defence and their midfield to some extent. It's our first choice 11 too (Ole clearly favours Lindelof over Bailly)

Will be disappointed without at least a draw.

Curious to see how we distribute the ball from our goal kicks. Had Cavani started against two midfielders working as a centre back pairing, we surely would lump it to him. But there's always Pogba wide left.

Happy with the lineup, Bailly unlucky though.

It will be disappointing if we don't score today considering we're up against 2 midfielders in defence.

Even if Liverpool win, them keeping a clean sheet will piss me off more.
Weve seen oppo players out of position and expected to exploit it only for said player to have a great game. Not expecting Henderson/Fabinho to roll over. Recall Carrick and Keane doing decent jobs during one of our many defensive injury crisis

So pretty much the same side that did absolutely nothing against Citeh in 2 games?. 3-0 loss incoming.

Lindelof just makes me nervous, generally, so I'm not happy with that. Rest of the team sort chooses itself -- Cavani hasn't been near as potent starting as he is off the bench so I'm not sure why a lot are angry with that one.

I just hope we don't set up in a diamond. I don't think we ever look convincing playing it. Especially with McFred and Wan Bissaka being so predictable and taking an eternity to get the ball under control.

Lindelof always starts when fit for games against the top teams under Ole.
Our record with him starting in big games recently has been poor though, we always give up goals first and preventable ones most of the time

Lindelof ain't that bad and bailly ain't the new Thuram so the meltdown here is somewhat unwarranted.

Don’t care who’s in our defence, no excuses for not scoring a handful against that team.

    Interesting.

I'm not sure how well Pogba plays with Fred? I heard someone point out that Ole pairs McT & Fred for these 'big' games, but also pointed out that we have not often come out the winners when they have played together. I like Fred & McT together, but I think there may be a valid point there.

I was worried Ole would field a team like this and he has.

No Cavani upfront, Rahford on the right where he was awful last game, Pogba on the wing so no pace there, Lindelof instead of an in form Bailley.

Aarrgghh! Not feeling as confident now. I'll take a draw with both hands.

I don’t understand. Is everyone saying this is a shit lineup because it is a shit lineup or are we saying it shit so we win (jinx).

I think it’s our strongest 11 but erm still shit. :houllier:

    My view on Lindelof today.

We will play with a deep back line, therefore requiring less pace. Whilst I think Bailly is better than Lindelof, he can on occasions in big games lapse concentration/have a rash moment.

I'd have started Bailly, but I see why he's started Lindelof.

Biggest issue with that line up for me is how the hell we're going to get control of their full backs?! If we have Pogba and Rashford wide then TAA and Robertson will have the freedom of the park, likewise if we're playing a diamond.

I was hoping Ole would have shown some bollocks today and played Cavani instead of the woeful Martial. 7 defensive players again when Liverpool are at their weakest. The other change Bailley/Lindelof. This will mean we will be conceding more ground to Liverpool as the back 2 will have to play a lot deeper.

Lindelof and Maguire will both get rinsed for pace in the first few minutes and we'll all be screaming.

Many Bailly fans on here. He has been good lately, but he is backup player. I think the game suits Lindelof more anyways

Would have thought Cavani up against two midfielders in defence would have been the way we would go today.

Hope for Ole's sake Martial turns up because he's not been good enough for me lately.

Pogba was brilliant on the left. Martial will come out there too, along with Shaw pushing up. Trent is going to have a long 90 mins being overloaded by those three
