This lad would cost around £70m I reckon and personally, while he seems good, he doesn't bring anything to the table to be worth that. He's a good midfielder but a kind of jack-of-all-master-of-none type - a bit like McTominay actually. We've already got a McTominay, what our midfield needs £70m spending on is a prime Ngolo Kante, a prime Andrea Pirlo or a James Maddison type.

How do you come up with £70 million?

Guesswork based on what players tend to go for. If Leicester want almost 100m for a game changer like Maddison, Villa would probably want close to that for one of their best players. Bookmark this if we bid for him I suppose we'll see one way or another.

The difference is Maddison is 22, so hes very early in his development but performing at the top level for an AM in the premier league for a season and a half.

McGinn is 25 in his first season in the premier league and has done well so far but its half a season.

We're also talking the difference between being the best or second best player at the 2nd placed team, vs the best or second best player for the team 4th from bottom with 11 points from 12 matches

Theres far more similarity with Tielemans who was signed for less than £40 million last summer. McGinn is more around the £45-50 million mark else the top performing players at the likes of Sheffield United are worth a lot more than him. I don't think O'Connell and Egan are worth £70 million each.

I dont think Billing has risen from the £13 million he was signed for in the summer to be worth £60 million either

I don't think £70m would be that far off.

In the summer it was reported that it'd take £50m to prize him away from Villa, and this was with no PL experience under his belt. Now, having not only said experience, but proving he can play at an even higher level in being one of the better midfielders in the league already (imo anyway), an extra 20 or so million is only natural to be added by Villa.

60-70 million is what I'd expect to see him go for if he does leave next year.

Yes it was ridiculous like 70 million now

Different players, but definitely Grealish is Villa's most prized asset, and I don't think any other team would be willing to pay that much for him, let alone for McGinn. I think 60 and 50 m are their right valuation even in today's market.

Ridiculous as in valuing him that much or in the sense that Villa wouldn't sell for any less?

English clubs won't be held to ransom anymore. I can definitely see Villa not selling for less as he's one of their most important players and they don't need the money as shown by their transfer activity this past summer.

Ridiculous in terms of being one of the two best players at a team just outside the relegation zone. They might go down. If they had a £70 million player in their team they probably wouldnt

I reckon - in this current market - Keano would be a 70m+ player and he couldn't stop Forest going down. It's a team game after all. Without him, I'd expect them to go down. With him, I'm confident they won't.

Yes its a team game and there are other players around McGinn's level. We arent talking everyone else in the team being a £10 million player and McGinn being a £70 million player. Grealish is playing just as well too. Guillbert and Wesley are decent.

If McGinn is worth £70 million then a lot of players are worth £70 million, which I dont believe

For 70m, I would walk away. We already have McT who would be a better player than McGinn in couple of years and plays in the same position.

Transfer fees are being treated as almost conceptual now. £70m can buy you a top player. You don't need to spend that on a 25 year old with less than a dozen PL games. As @Ekeke says above, if McGinn is worth £70 then there are dozens of £70m players in the league and that's just plainly not true.

Keane would go for 100 mill plus. He was their player of the season, second top goalscorer and he spent almost a third of the season as CB before moving to midfield. He was the best CB, the best midfielder and best attacker. He stood out a mile. I think it was a record signing at 3.75 or something and would be the same today. So same or more than Pogba I reckon plus British fee. McGinn is no where near. Miles off.

He would take an impact of course and threaten their chances of staying in the league but they have other players that could do a job - Grealish etc
He is a 50 mill tops player and at that it would be a risk.

Well, we'll have to agree to disagree.

As a box to box CM, I don't see anyone - who's available - anywhere near as good as McGinn.

I agree that £70m is a bit much, but I wasn't arguing he was worth that. I was merely saying that's around the ballpark Villa would sell for. I'd be more than happy to pay said amount, too. Just like I said in the summer thatd I be fine with us paying the reported £50m as I knew his price would only rise when he showed that he could play PL level footy.

That's the thing, though. Outside the top 6 there are only two other CMs as good as McGinn, imo. Grealish and Maddison. Both would cost 60m+, too.

I disagree.

In the summer I said he'd take to the PL like a fish to water and he's done that. Already one of the better CMs in the league. His talent is so obvious. I think whoever signs him is guaranteed a quality CM.

I think his potential is at Wijnaldum level. Just a good player, will never be a top player. He's not a type of player you want to build your midfield around him too. Spending 50m or even 70m on this guy is crazy for the potential & quality you will get. Beside, if we are sticking with 4231 then the best role we can use him won't be playing deep but playing as a no 10 role which probably for his quality not something you want to spend a 50m or more.

He's a good player, I am impressed with him so far this season (impressed that he's actually better than I expected earlier) and won't mind to take him if he's available cheap but anything above 40m is no brainer that we should be looking for someone else because there are better quality players & higher potential than him with the similar price.

This guy got a serious injury last season, but with all the noise about the Peaky Blinder - his work has gone largely under the radar this term I think. He’s a large part of why Villa are where they are, and I think he’s possibly been the standout CM in the PL this season.

He has everything, good feet, passing, can score a goal and an incredible engine. He’d be a good addition at United I reckon.

Imagine bumping this right before he plays against City, why god why.

He is terrible, and he'll no doubt have a stinker again tonight. Championship level.

That just re-jigged my memory. McGinn wasn't even good for us in the Championship.

I like him - looks a bit heavy but he's a key part of Villa's play. He's allowed to have off days
