Was it against City that he had an absolute nightmare against last season? Or Bayern?

Either way it was in CL and he looked awful.

He's out of form but is still a better signing that Upamecano imo.

Approaching his peak years, I'm sure he can recapture his form. When he's on it he's a first class defender.

In form you can't help but think he would be the perfect partner for Maguire.

I thought we were bashing it over Upamenano nowadays. Why the nostalgic crywank over Varane, he's only after a new sodding contract

Normally I'd say, "Well Bailly and Lindelof are doing well so we don't need him" but we've been here before.

We will stick with what we have because they are in form, then when they start playing badly again we kick ourselves for not buying a top player when we could have.

If either Varane/Upamecano are available for a decent price, don't hesitate, sign them up.

Extremely over rated and relies on pace - considering he's injury prone too, not much of an upgrade on Bailly apart from aerially.

Not worth it unless very cheap.

No , i haven't . I will assume thats probably a dip and he could still recover his old form. No one is paying 60m for Pogba though
You should, he's been pretty poor in the last 12 months, Im not sure thats only a dip. He hasn't been benched because he's one of Zidane favorites and the other option is to play Militao who's also been shit.

But clearly anyone saying that a Pogba-Varane swap would be a fair deal is just getting carried away because of Varane's name.

Also 60M is a really reasonable price for Pogba, specially in his current form.

Quality cushioned header.

Imagine having him and Maguire attacking corners.
We'd win every header.
Yet you'd have Maguire high and wide and him knocking it on the pen spot.
Agreed. Much better than whatever Maguire tried to do against Newcastle last week.

Pogba's worth about £50 to £55m in this market. About what Real would want for Varane! I don't want Varane either; another sick note.
Playing devils advocate: Varane's injury record has improved a lot in the last 2 years. When he was younger he was injured a lot, and rarely played 30 league games, but over thed last two and a half seasons he's been fairly constant. I would hope the club will do their due diligence on his fitness, but I certainly think he shouldn't be written off given he's among the best around and will only have 12 months on his contract this summer.

If memory serves me right wasn't it between him and Jones way back in the summer of 2011

I think we wanted to sign both Varane and Jones and were quite close to getting him as well, but apparently, Zidane convinced him to join Real.

Who knows how much media fabrication there was, but it was reported he was the one who basically made the transfer happened and convinced Mourinho to go for it. I think this was back in his sporting director role.

How can you say he is a sicknote ? This season he has missed 2 league games, the last 2 seasons he missed 6 games in each season. Hardly a sicknote

We should just blanket avoid big name stars who've already won it all. They never seem to work out.

He's horrendously out of form isn't he? I know Ed is supposed to be pretty obsessed with signing him, so wouldn't surprise me.
Form is temporary, class is permanent. He is one the all time greats of central defending who has won it all.

I don't get the no's

Surely surely he's a big upgrade on Lindelof .

Where's the stats charts for defending , I bet it shows about 20 centre backs with better stats than Lindelof

I like him a lot, always wanting him at United.
He have a lot of experience, only 28 in April, good lad, knows the pressure of big club.
But is he the perfect partner for Maguire ? I'm not sure, too similar profile.

Too similar? Varane is lightning quick, Maguire is lightning slow.

He's fast but lightning quick... he's not Bailly.
With someone as slow as Maguire, I would prefer a player with that acceleration speed like Bailly have.

Varane would be an excellent addition to our defense, assuming he doesn't have any fitness issues, I used to watch Madrid alot during 2017-2019 period (weekly league unless it clashed with MU's game), and he was really doing very well along side Ramos, he had a shaky year in 2020, and I am not sure how's he done since the new season started, haven't caught many of Madrid games in 2020/2021 (watched the Calssico of course).

If we get him for anything less than £ 40M, with a reasonable wages, it would be a good signing, but I dont think Madrid will sell him or let him leave, they are better off signing him to a new deal and give a pay rise than get a new player in in this transfer market.

Yeah that's what happens when you rate players solely by their trophy cabinet. That's why Giggs >> Figo
Varane was one of the best CB and at times carried that Real Madrid defense. He didn't score goals like Ramos so many forget how good he actually was. On another side, I don't want him at United for obvious reasons.

Susegaad!
Varane has learned from Ramos. Use United, get bumper contract from Real and say Hala Madrid!
