I am not Norwegian but I would love to try out Odegaard on the right wing, a loan with an option to buy Odegaard would be a great deal for us. I'm all for the try before buy theory.
He would most likely solve our right wing problem for many years to come.

if he's available on loan and Ole doesn't go for him I think we can safely assume we're never going for him

would be the perfect low-risk opportunity to try him out and he's better suited to playing on the right than any of our current first teamers

Has he played much/at all on the right wing? Any reports/highlights of those performances?

He would be the perfect player to feed passes onto Cavani's runs. If anyone saw him play for Sociedad last season, he's got killer vision and through passes.

The reason he is not playing for RM much has nothing to do with how good he is. If anyone bothered to follow up on what is going there you would see that Zidane has his favourites and he has barely been given a chance. Zidane has come come under huge scrutiny this season for his treatment of some youngsters. He was voted best La Liga midfielder last season so he is obviously good enough.

My heart says yes, but my mind says no. He's an attacking midfielder at the end of the day. He can play box-to-box with a DM next to him I guess, but then we first need a DM :p

I don't really consider Arsenal rivals this year, so it will be fun to watch him play for them. The downside is that rooting for him also means rooting for fewer meltdowns on AFTV :(

I've heard whispers that this is part of a master plan to lure Haaland in 2022. Hope to sign Odegaard permanently in the summer, add Berge when Sheffield Utd get relegated, then big push for Haaland 2022 playing with his mates.

P. S. Unfortunately the whispers were in my head.

Interesting move. Arteta has been desperate for a creative midfielder. The rest of the PL get to see the player in the PL for 20 odd games. Lets see how good he is then (6 months isnt a long time tosettle in).

Is he going to get a lot of minutes at Arsenal? Good move for all parties (short term for Arsenal though) if he does.
Hard to say. His form dipped in 2020 and this season he's not played that much for Real(for whatever reason), so he's probably not 100% ready. 2019 Ødegaard would probably walk straight into this Arsenal team, though.

If he chose Arsenal over Sociedad, then I have a feeling that certain verbal promises were made. He wouldn't go from one bench to another.

A good move for Arsenal, a player that's more the profile they need with some aging players in their front 3. Interesting to see where they play him as Smith-Rowe has done excellently as a CAM. I never saw Odegaard as a RW but maybe he'll do well there.

It's a shame he'll probably be ready to play against us and most likely will turn up.

Oh we're definitely not beating Arsenal in the PL this season.
We seem to go very easy on them for some reason.

Why because they got a Madrid player that can't get a start on loan?
Obviously not because of that. They didn’t have him at Old Trafford and still beat us. Solskjær has struggled against Arteta thus far and they are in great form defensively.

Wow, a guardian list.
That’s him told.

Haaland above Neymar and Mbappe by the way:lol:
No, a list commissioned by and printed in The Guardian. Made by a panel of 250 experts. But I suppose that counts for little compared to snap judgments by caf posters based on deduction from 1 or 2 isolated facts they've picked up.

Yep, Haaland above Mbappe and Neymar. Quite right too.

“Experts” who rate Haaland above Mbappe and Neymar.

Tonnes of Journos and a just a few players/coaches, of which JUST TWENTY FIVE of the 250 selected Ødegaard in their top players.

225 of them didn't have him, hence why these lists are always fecking stupid and throw up ridiculous things like Haaland at number 6 above Mbappe and Neymar. A few journos get giddy about a player, and that's enough.

This list is amazing, I'm on the spreadsheet now.

One "expert" judge put him as the 5th best player in the World
Another "expert" judge as the 12th best player in the World.
2 more had him in the top 20.

He's not even in the best 11 players at Real Madrid

Don't get me wrong here, I like the player and I think he'll do decent at Arsenal, but feck me, these lists. ha ha

Oh, you're one of those people who when confronted with judgments made by qualified by people which does not make sense to you, assume that it's the qualified people who are obviously idiots. :) Good luck with that.

Two points here.

Firstly, obviously, rating football players is a fickle business. The variety of opinion is huge, comparing different types of players are inherently difficult and there are much more than 100 players good enough to warrant serious consideration. Pick a different set of 250 football people and they'd probably give you a quite different list, and you won't get far down the list before any kind of consensus melts away. The point however, and the reason why I quoted it is this: You don't get on a list like that unless you're a very, very good player. That's all.

Secondly, nobody reads through any list like that, no matter how many experts has made it, without having a number of WTF moments. You don't, I didn't, nobody does. It's just how do you deal with that? Is it smart to automatically assume that you know best, and that those WTF moments means it's a ridiculous list compiled by foolish people, or according to a stupid method? Or is it better to entertain the possibility that maybe the players involved in those moments are better than you thought, or not as good as you thought? You know, chalk up the surprises as a note of caution telling you there may be a case for re-examining your judgments?

My God man these Norwegians @justsomebloke . You’re so defensive you’re ignoring the fact that I said he’s a player I really like and that I think he’ll do decent Arsenal.

And yes the list is shit. Plenty of just good players like Jesus fecking Navas are on there. Plenty of miles better players aren’t.
You are an utter buffoon if you think being on that kind of list means anything whatsoever.

Good player, I still question his Real Madrid move.

He looked like the next superstar years ago, I'm not as confident as others that he will set the world on fire at Arsenal.

He's arriving at the end of January until July, by the time he adapts to the EPL, and he beds into the squad the season will be over.

I expect that he'll have a few good performances and he looked like a great player but I think Real Madrid really wasn't the right option.

At 22 if he was at the level that people see him at, he would be in the starting XI by now, or at least getting minutes.

Yes Modric and Kroos are world class, but Modric is now 35, he should be getting minutes there.

Loan without an option to buy is a plain stupid move. Paying a fee and giving game time to develop Real Madrid player? Thanks but no, thanks

My God man these Norwegians
Good lord I’m getting sick of these kind of comments. So often when a Norwegian pipes up about a Norwegian player, or Ole or what have you, we get dismissed with a lazy "oh, you’re Norwegian? That explains it"

Not that justsomebloke is making a great case here...

A true artist when playing with confidence through his extreme vision, technique and passing.
If given freedom to create through dribbles, vertical passes and taking risks, I think he will do very well at Arsenal. If not, he probably won't shine, like with RM this season. He hasn't played bad for them, just too safe with too little endproduct. When a 10 is not allowed to try lower %-plays, it's a lot harder to create and there is little use for him.

Hope he get's a fair chance at Arsenal.

(Strange deal for Arsenal though - Blocking two Academy players who are just starting to find their feet, with no option to buy. Arteta must really rate him)

Eriku, have a fecking read man.

I like the player, but justsomebloke is getting defensive as feck because I think these lists are utter shite.

Yes, that’s a Norwegian trait on these forums, so desperate to defend a countryman they ignore that they don’t even need to defend him, I’m backing him at Arsenal ffs and I like the player. I’ve wrote it about 5 times now.

If you wanna defend shitty lists that always throw up an incredible amount of biases because 25 votes from 250 people gets you a top 100 place, fine. I think they are utter wank and mean nothing.

The worst part about this is that the Norwegian papers are going to go on non-stop about Arsenal

You have a fecking read. I expressed that his argument was rubbish.

I just know I’ve received the "silly Norwegian" tag for daring to chime in on a matter pertaining to a fellow countryman, and it’s getting fecking old to see that all over the shop.

It’s lazy and also means you’re tarring a bunch of people you’re not even responding to with your brush.

Sorry mate, I missed that.

There’s a difference though, I’d never label you, but some are beyond belief.
