What a fall from grace.
As many said at the time, going to Real was a mistake. I think someone likened him at the time to a kid going to university open days. It seemed a bit...arrogant.

He should have gone to Ajax who I think were interested in him at the time, I don't remember if Dortmund were but that also would have been a good option. His fellow countryman Haaland has possibly learned from his errors and made better footballing decisions which now mean that Haaland is on the cusp of being an elite level player for a big European side.

Petty good signing for them. Potential game changer. I hope he bombs big time!

Redcafe seems strangly in love with this player.

I've seen his name for years.
When he was 15 and absolutely tearing up the Norwegian league he generated a lot of hype everywhere, tbf. He even went on a "club tour" before making his final decision.

Last season he was immense in La Liga so he's gone from 'child prodigy' to 'young top talent'. The latter generates even more hype, especially among transfer muppets. Had it not been for Bruno and our current league position, then I can guarantee you that this forum would have lost its collective mind the moment Ødegaard went to Arsenal

To be fair though, he and his family have already made insane amounts of money on his decision to go to Real.

Had(/if) his career been cut short by a big injury or he turned out to not live up to his potential he's already (pretty much) set for life compared to making decent at Ajax and then getting better contracts later.

Did well at Sociedad, still just a temp fix. Will be interesting to see if he can hack it in the prem.

I don't like this, he's a really talented player. Hopefully he'll take some time to adjust to Premier League, like he usually does (he took his time in both Eredevisie & La Liga before tearing those apart).

What's the deal? Half a season or 1,5?

He looks like he's dying inside during that interview. Smile through pain
Is he always like that?

Dig up stupid!
I said it about ceballos and I'll say it again

Small time from arsenal, accepting their place as a feeder club to one of the big boys

Shouldn't be loaning players without an option to buy

Keep saying it, it will never stop being a dumb take.

Can you imagine City or Liverpool or United doing a short term loan with no purchase option? And then bragging about it? It's seriously mid table stuff. Good deal for both parties at this moment in time, but small time nevertheless.

Too good too soon. He had his pick of clubs when he was what? 16? Going to Real was probably the worst possible decision he could have made. Hopefully he can recover his career because it's not really gone as planned so far.

That's an understatement.

If by well you mean best performing player in the league bar Messi, then yes.
7 goals and 9 assists in 36 games in all competitions is certainly nothing to sneer at but hold your horses.

Sociedad finished 8th. He certainly wasn't the second-best player in the league. Oyarzabal, his own team mate, made more assists than him even.

Not to mention that he didn't feature in most versions of "team of the season" that I've seen so far.

He was very good, but not that good.

Basically :p
To be fair he felt genuinely more excited when he talked about Ceballos and Fabregas. But the phrase "it's like a dream come true... in some ways" describes this perfectly

Does come across pretty small time from Arsenal.

Taking young prospects from bigger clubs and helping develop them and give them experience so that they can eventually go back to the bigger club.

It's like the Regulon deal that Tottenham accepted, I'd not want Utd to ever do that.

True, but then again: they have been small time for quite some time now. Can't see them ever getting back to the top to be honest.

I mean that's the exact opposite. Taking an experienced head short term just in case you need injury cover.
I mean what is the difference?

We need someone as cover for Smith-Rowe and Saka, who need to be rested. If we signed Isco instead would you have approved? Because i'd much rather sign Odegaard in that position than Isco, who we might actually have a chance of signing fully afterwards.

Don't understand why people look down at loans from other teams, we need another body as a creative midfielder, and he fits the profile well.

I would be hugely surprised if he has a big impact there. World class at times for Sociedad. But injuries have set him back. Needs patience and minutes.

I think it'll take him time to adapt, as great as he potentially is there's a reason he's not broken through to the starting XI of Real Madrid yet.

He's a bit small too, he will get bullied at times.

Great player potentially but I see him a bit hit and miss.

I'd expect him to get around what James does for Everton.

No i cannot see the infinite money club who won multiple recent league titles or European and current PL champions do a short term loan with no purchase option because they don't have to.
I always wonder what great alternative we have available according to you but decided against it. I'm glad we did not sign Ceballos on a permanent deal for 25/30M. He's not bad but clearly not great. What's the point in shooting money down the drain on mid-table players if we aspire to going higher ? I'd rather have 3 loans in the first 11 for a year or two and buy a Partey every 2 years to improve an area that needs it with a very good piece.

I say this take is dumb because it's 90% about piss taking and banter but the economic reality is that it just don't work for the club that is Arsenal. Cue the Pepe and Özil jokes.
The clubs you talk about can afford to absorb the cost of rebuilding with big signings while having deadwood. Arsenal cannot.
