Little rumour that Mount might not start today. Will see in 50 minutes but if you want Havertz to do something long term think best bet is to play him infront of two CMs e.g. Kante and another.

Then Mount's in mix for the front 3 positions but guess Ziyech and Pulisic will get the nod.

He needs a rest anyway, but I can see the fans reacting negatively. I don't how see today's line-up can be a reflection of Tuchel's view of the squad since he met the players literally yesterday.

There will be a negative reaction online whatever the team is. The only people who comment on twitter about team selections are morons. If Mount plays it'll be because he's Tuchels adopted son. If he'd dropped Tuchel hates academy players.

It's a shame there's no crowd so we could see what the actual fan reaction is.

Yeah true, but I meant those specifically who are still vocally upset today about Lampard being gone, which is a slightly different group than the, quite frankly, children who bitch about the team selections no matter what.

I wonder if he will be in the dugout tonight or if it’ll be someone like Jody Morris taking the team?

As expected, James, Mount and Abraham are out, despite the former two being their best players this season and the latter fresh off a hat-trick  Just can’t believe Werner has been dropped for Hudson-Odoi.

Not sure I'd read much into the line up just yet. Wouldn't be shocked if he's going more for fresh legs because apart from Zyiech, none of the first 11 started in the FA Cup.

Always interesting when a new manager takes over a high quality squad.

Good point (if accurate, haven't checked it myself).

Reminded me of that fantastic Mainz team he had in 10/11. Had an even better season than I remembered, won their first 7 in Bundesliga and eventually finished 5th (were only 7 points off Bayern who finished 3rd).

Don't laugh Chelsea fans but Schurrle was seen as one of Germany's very best prospects in those days, was only 19 at the start of that season, he scored 14 goals in Bundesliga that season plus decent amount of assists. Lewis Holtby was on loan that season for them and was pretty good, only 20 aswell.

Don't think there's a doubt Tuchel will play the young players if they meet his standards but problem is the logjam. How does Gilmour get regular minutes with Jorginho, Kante, Kovacic, Havertz and Mount all around for those 3 positions. Going to have to move a few out and same for someone like Hudson Odoi.
Yes definitely! It's funny you should comment as a Villa fan - I can't disclose too many details but I was privy to some of the plans behind the proposed takeover post-Lerner around that time, and Tuchel had agreed to join as Villa manager. Unfortunately, Lerner tried to change the terms of sale at the 11th hour and the bid fell through, so Tuchel went on to Dortmund instead.

I like his first line up there, makes more sense. No Germany Daniel James and looks like Havertz is playing further forward instead of deeper.

Tuchel comes in, immediately takes out the garbage. Mount out, Reece out. I love it. If "Lamps" hadn't consistently been playing favorites....even going as far as making Mount captain, he might still have the job? Just a thought for him to think about as he sits at home watching Chelsea. I absolutely despise managers who pick players based on anything other than their ability.

I think Mount has played well this season. Arguably one of their best performers.

I was told Tuchel liked to play through the middle and hated crossing yet we havent even crossed the 10th minute and chelsea have already played 5 crosses.

I find Tuchel incredibly smug, and feel pleased I can go back to really not liking Chelsea, rather than the curious ambivalence I’ve had about them recently.

Running up and down the pitch doesn't constitute "playing well" though. It's only lower leagues and lesser clubs (and arguably English clubs) that have that mentality. Players like that only survive by the goodwill of their managers. See Lingard for Exhibit A.

I think that's a pretty reductive view of what he offers. He's been very creative with the ball, while having good ball retention and also a pretty good defensive work rate. In the premier league this season only Grealish, Fernandes and KDB have more key passes per 90 than him, and while I don't think he's on the level of the aforementioned three he also wins back the ball far more than any of them. I don't think someone could have watched a significant amount of Chelsea this season and think that Mount has played like garbage, or that he's been one of their worst performers.

I was literally laughing when I saw Mount in the starting line up against us in the FA cup final, we beat them of course. And he started Mount again in our PL game with Chelsea.....we beat them again of course, in fact, he was shown up by our own youngster Smith Rowe who is far superior in actually collecting the ball with a good first touch, swivel with the ball, carry the ball past players, shield the ball, make clever runs, pass into tight areas etc....pretty much everything that Mount can't do.

In one of the Champions League ties, I watched Chelsea for about 30 minutes and I was absolutely shocked at the lack of technical ability Mount has....truly astonishing how he keeps getting picked. Grealish is 10x the player he is, and yet Southgate picks Mount. And people wonder why we last won the WC in '66.

Agree with fps. I will now enjoy not to like Chelsea. Tuchel is determined which is good, but he is all over the place in a not so likable way and is a character that will fall out with someone some day. I have to give it to the germans and their school of creating modern tactical managers though. They are many steps ahead. A colourfull adition to the premier league he is - on the oposition team of course

Interesting, was that summer 2014 as we were close to being sold then but it didn't get done and then in 2016 when it did go through to Dr Fraud.....Tuchel was already at Dortmund.

By that logic Zola is crap because he never won against Arsenal in the league.

I don't know anything about Tuchel but for some reason I quite like him. He seems like an odd but interesting character. Where have all the managers you love to hate gone (Klopp aside, obviously)?!

Edit. Christ this is a boring game though.

It was 2014. And the reason the deal didn't go through was 100% Lerner being a twat at the last minute.

More like Fraudchel am I right guys?!

I’m surprised he took charge of this game literally 2nd day on the job, but I guess Frank took all his staff with him and importantly his mate Jody who could have seen this game through before leaving. Obviously doesnt help.

Always thought he was an attacking coach because of his spell at Dortmund.

I don't watch a whole lot of Chelsea, but do they really need both Kovacic and Jorginho in the team? They seem to perform pretty much the same role as deep-lying playmakers, but without much penetration and certainly no goal threat. Seems to be a big part of Chelsea's lack of creativity tonight. At least Mason Mount will provide a threat from range and try to get into the box.
