They have been at this for a while now, and while all clubs often construct a re carefully co-ordinated media courtship - Bayern’s directors seem to casually give direct quotes every week to the press about players they want and exactly where they are with the progress of any deal.

Currently, they are in something of a ‘title race’ with RB Leipzig, and are being typically disrespectful in blatantly saying how much they intend to sign Upamecano, how they are in talks with his agents and hope for a decision soon. The season is still ongoing and it’s a total piss take.

They did the same thing with Hudson-Odoi and for that reason I was pleased to see them fail to get him.

It’s definitely a calculated move and they do it all the time. I wish we’d done it with grealish last year so he didn’t sign a new deal, we would have still had to pay a lot but he’s almost impossible to get now ... the likes of Brooks if we really want him you need to be tapping it up and getting him in with one year left for around 20 million or on a free. We shouldn’t be considering spending 40 million on squad players if it’s going to stop us investing enough in our starters while the team still lacks certain essential elements

Definitely looking forward to the Dortmund/RBL/Leverkusen fans explaining to us all why this is perfectly OK and to mind our own business as their players get tapped up and leave for peanuts to maintain Bayern’s dominance.

Aren't Barca and Real bad for this sort of thing as well.

I imagine City will get brazen enough at one point to do this too.

It’s perfectly fine. They stockpile the best players from the Bundesliga and then when they do well in the Champions League, all bundesliga fans can rejoice at the combined effort to showcase their superior league. We just don’t get it.

I respect them for how their club is structured and the success they've had, but they must be the smuggest club on the planet. Zero competition in their league, can dictate to all the clubs and hold the moral high-ground for not being plastic.

Like us in the 90s :(

A question that should be asked of their owners more like. Our clubs are very parochial when it comes to selling to each other except at extortionate fees

Tbh, Real always pay up. Trying to get things done on cheap by going public is very Bayern and Barca esque.

It’s their ‘football men’ who run the club. Not soulless CEOs like we have. We don’t understand how football works. Germany and Bayern do.

The public/media doesn't hold them to account for these things, so they keep doing it seemingly without much thought. When a Dortmund player has a release clause you can be sure that Kalle will tell you sooner or later.

The way they all arselick Bayern they probably consider it an honour for any German team to have their player poached by Bayern.

German league fans are a weird bunch. Everyone is friendly to Bayern when it comes to selling their best players to them but Man United and the likes are the big bad boys

Maybe it just isn’t frowned upon in the same way in Germany.

I recall all summer Ole being asked about Sancho and giving the same response of ‘not talking about other team’s players’. I think that’s how it should be until the deal is practically done.

It is frowned upon. Rummenigge just knows no one will call him out about it, so he doesn't care.

I have no idea why people think these things. No-one is happy to lose their best player; bug the disparity is just too big in Germany, and hence Bayern is too big an attraction for players compared to wherever they may be at the time. All the same time, Bayern has gotten very few instant first-team players from other BL clubs in the past years. Their big buys have been abroad, while in Germany, they mostly bought young and upcoming players. Finally, @do.ob said that this tapping up isn't liked in Germany either, but somehow doesn't get much media attention.

So really, the only thing left is that German posters tend to be level-headed and try to see both sides of a coin - rather than being negative about every BL team outside their own, as non-German posters seem to think they should be. But hyper-partisan fans like that wouldn't be on a Man Utd forum in the first place; they'd be on their own clubs' forums.

Why should Bayern lie when the media already knows about talks with Upamecano and the agent even talks openly about it in Germany's biggest football talkshow?

No, we do not want him and are not interested? It is openly known that two top clubs from the EPL, United and Chelsea, are very much in it, too!

Leipzig knows about it, too, and already bought the successor!

In terms of Bundesliga, they own it.
Sure, they could be more polite and respectful, but i guess they figured, why not drop the fascade?

Does ‘we do not comment on other team’s players’ sound like a ‘lie’ to you?

It is openly known that United and Chelsea are interested too you say. Ask either club for comment and watch what happens.

Don't act as if you wouldn't prefer to have a bit more of an open book to read from in your club.

I see you poor souls haplessly guessing, helplessly tapping around in the blind, every transfer window and between, desperately trying to gauge your club's intentions and opinions on transfer targets, and even on your own players.

Is Mata "deadwood"? Or will he sign a lucrative new 4 year contract tomorrow? Who knows! Either could be true! Or even both at the same time!

And how would you know? Your board never speaks directly, only through the press. But are these briefings? Or smoke screens? Or leaks from someone who isn't in the loop? Or simply made up stuff because there's nothing there to report?

Dozens upon dozens of threads, thousands upon thousands of posts, fans voicing their mere guess work and then attacking other fans for their mere guess work, like starving wolves in a nebulous forest.

Our guys wear their hearts on their sleeves, and their brain on their tongues, bless them.
We Bayern fans know what's up, because this is our club, it's run by our people, not some unaccountable accountant appointed by owners thousands of miles away.

And it's certainly not our fault if other teams insert cheap release clauses in their top players' contracts.

Unlike most clubs Bayern doesn't seem to care about looking nice and friendly from the outside. PR doesn't seem to be part of their priorities which is not necessarily a bad thing, we all know what they think at all time.

I wonder if you were that mad when Klopp talked about "not wanting to end the speculations about Thiago" well before the signing being official

There were pictures in the papers of Upamecano's agent meeting with Salihamidzic and Upa's agent himself said on one of Germany's biggest football TV shows that they've spoken with Bayern and that they're leading the race to sign him. It's been well known that Bayern have been interested in him for a long time. I mean ... what are they supposed to say?

btw: in Germany it's well known that when Bayern are asked about a particular player and they don't say anything ... sh!t is about to get serious :D

I'm sure you understand the difference between buying another team's player and talking about another team's player's contract and transfer status to the press?

More than that, it's part of their PR. They periodically demonstrate to everyone they're top dog, which has been key to their brand for as long as I can remember.

Most Bayern supporters are annoyed by those antics. There was hope that talking about players from other clubs stops after Hoeness left but Rummenigge continues this tradition.
Hopefully it stops next year when Kahn is in charge.
