It'll be rescinded by the committee.
If it does, something needs to be done about Mike Dean's officiating. Two red cards rescinded in the space of 4 days is pretty ridiculous.

Dig up stupid!
Absolutely ridiculous red and another example of how the super slo mo combined with the 2-3 seconds around impact skewing the incident, if you play the clip at full speed with 5 secs before and 5 after there's not a person in the world that thinks it's anything other than an accidental clash

More var nonsense

Mike Dean chose not to use common sense so he could be the centre of attention once again.

That won’t be rescinded as Bednarek’s one was. There’s clear contact and Mitrovic made the most of it.
The Southampton one looked accidental even if it was a debatable penalty

Or VAR. who took their time and told him that it was red card worthy .. twice. Both instances where he didnt produce the red before VAR injected itself into the picture to hog the limelight

I think i'm one of the few who think that was a nailed on red.

You don't need to move your elbow out the way at head level!

So if this gets rescinded, just like Bednarek's was, surely Mike Dean has to be sanctioned severely?

Joke, he is horrific and manages games to his own narrative.

Most likely he has cost teams wins deliberately. There is no way he is this bad without actual agency.

Zamora calling it - the Mike Dean show.

I’ve just watched it. May be a little soft but I don’t think it’s ridiculous at all. Swing your arms around like that your asking for trouble and the fact he’s caught the guy in the face I don’t think he has a case.

Watch how he reacts immediately after he feels making contact. It's an obvious clue it's absolutely accidental.
Accidental yes, but when players challenge in the air and elbow someone, that's accidental, but often still a red.

Exactly this.
Swing your elbow that high, and catch someone and it is very definitely a red.

Accidental doesn't matter.

Hope we decide to turn up tonight and don't do the Newcastle job again.

Complete joke and almost as pathetic as the Martial one. It's like refs live in a parallel universe sometimes. Anybody with a pair of eyes can see that that doesn't meet the description of "violent conduct", but of course they've just got to wave the red card for it being any part of anyone's body being near an opponent's face that results in said opponent chucking himself on the floor.

Just an automatic response like Pavlov's dog. They seem incapable of thinking for themselves or considering intent or context at all.

You see elbows connecting all the time that are accidental and ruled not red cards. Apparently even Mitrovic told the ref it wasn't worthy of a red.

Mike Dean shouldn’t be allowed to be a referee at this level, he makes these decisions to make himself the story of the match.

No Lee Mason asked him to look at the possibility of a red, so Mason must have had doubts

There is the problem right there.
Some people saying it's the worst decision ever and some saying it was a 100% red.

How the feck are refs supposed to get these right.

 swing your elbow, have a word with yourself. They're tussling before a free kick and their shoving each other, Soucek lifts his arm to get into a better position for when the ball comes in and catches Mitrovic. He's also 6 foot 5, do you expect his elbow to hit him in the knees?

It's genuinely one of the worst decisions of the year.

Only after the cnut wanted a foul or a penalty. Don’t think he quite expected a red. Embarrassing really

I think people get hung up on this "accidental" business.

The Southampton guy didn't mean to smash McTominay in our game. Soucek didn't mean to elbow Mitty in the face.
But both did.

Harsh, but hard luck.
Maybe I'm just happy rivals have him in fantasy footy :)

Did you have him in your fantasy team out of interest :)

Nothing has ever had 100% approval in the history of anything. You can usually discount about 10-15% of people for being complete knobs. The fact that every single pundit, every ex pro who has commented so far, and the vast, vast majority of people who are known for having a bit of knowledge about the game on here are all saying it's clearly not a sending off offence means you should probably come to the conclusion that you're wrong.

When he's asked to look, doesn't it then become his responsibility? To look so hard and long and still make the wrong decision twice in 4 days???
