Not far enough
They just fouled and fouled and fouled every time we got the ball. 18 times the ref blew for a foul that they had committed. They were lucky not to lose a player if the ref had managed to keep score of all the people he'd booked. It was so blatant, every time Bruno or Rashford got the ball they were flattened. And if we were snide players like PSG are, we could have play acted and got someone sent off but we just took it and carried on. I think tactical fouling is cowardly and underhand. I wouldn't want to watch our players just tripping, pushing, pulling anyone who has the ball. The stop start nature of the game is pretty dull and repetitive.
I really hoped that refs will start tackling tactical fouling but it seems neither the on field ref nor the VAR are looking into it at all.

In an ideal world I would like VAR to review when the on field ref gives a yellow for diving and also to track how many fouls each player has committed and tell that to the ref.

Why do we constantly wait for other clubs to steal a march on us when it comes to appointing obvious upgrades on current managers? This procrastination is infuriating. We missed out on Pochettino and we missed out on Tuchel. I fully expect Nagelsmann to end up at a Liverpool, a City or a Spurs within the next 12-24 months whilst we delay the inevitable.

So infuriating and incredibly frustrating.

Need to be poaching this guy now. I love Ole but he isn't the one to ever lead us back to the top, everyone knows it. If we are the giant club we claim to be then you make a decision as soon as it is clear the current regime won't hit the heights.

Let Ole go with pride at the end of the season.

He’s the only one I’d swap Ole for.

If we can’t get him we might as well stick, no-one else “available” excites me.
Really!?!?

I don't think it is hard to upgrade on Ole. Look at Ancelotti at Everton. Ole is miles off being a top manager.

Now don't get me wrong, I think Ole gets the club and a he has done pretty well in the transfer market but to say only one manager would be an improvement I can't get my head around.

The "available" argument doesn't work for me, we're Manchester United. Outside of Bayern, Madrid, Barca, City and Liverpool any other manager would likely jump at the chance.

I don’t think United fans would like him. He plays 3-5-2, after a couple of games people would be moaning about “the United way” & all that shit.

He presses hard & chases games, which could lead to absolute batterings for & against us. I honestly don’t think the “top red” portion of our fans would give him any patience at all.

Let me put it this way:

If it wasn't for Flick then Nagelsmann would be nailed down as our next coach but now I'm not sure if the timing will work out for that. I see him leaving RBL in the next 1-2 years and Flick (hopefully) won't be gone by then. There is little doubt in my mind that he would have been our target as coach if Flick hadn't worked out.
It also wouldn't surprise me if he ends up at Real. They were previously interested in him and if Zidane really leaves he is an obvious choice.

Well, it's a very safe bet to assume he'll be Bayern coach at some point within the next couple of decades

He sees football management as more psychological than tactical. It will be interesting if he comes here and strikes up a rapport with the players, calling them by nicknames with a smile, and they end up playing the same lackluster zombie football again.

Did we though, we are second in the table, looking the strongest we have done in years although going through a bit of a dip and that's with having no real signing's in the summer , don't get me wrong i love Nagelsmann and will be jealous of whichever club gets him, however, the lack of respect for what Ole has done on this forum is shocking, especially comparing to Poch and Tuchel !!

Second or not, do you honestly see us making that final push to the league title under Ole? I honestly cannot see it

I'm very glad we 'missed out' on Tuchel & Poch. Doesn't mean Ole is good enough but thank God we didn't get them.

Did anyone see it before fergie did it? It’s a weird expectation to put on a manager 2.5 years into his tenure

I honestly do yes, I also think if we did not have a bunch of clowns running our club and had a better transfer window in the summer we would probably be a few points ahead right now in front, Ole can only do so much and this notion signing's cannot heavily improve a team and the coach has to turn shit into gold is crazy, i see enough from Ole to believe he is taking us in the right direction, we are the second in the league with an extremely poor set of attackers this season with tbh shocking numbers, especially comparing them to last season, it all comes down to fine details,

Our season has been badly affected with individual mistakes, not bad gameplans, a new CB,RW and striker in the summer and I would be extremely excited to see where we go next.

Also as @golden_blunder mentions, he is 2.5 years into his tenure, I know in this era of football patience seems few and far between but surely watching us go from one manager to the next with different styles etc and no success from it is enough to give Ole a bit more time.

Both are obvious upgrades on Solskjaer though, IMO. (And that was the core point of my initial post.)

Liverpool sacked Rodgers after he steadied their ship and started their rebuild when an upgrade became available in Klopp. I believe we are in a similar position in our rebuild now and appointing an obvious upgrade on our current manager would be a move to realise our potential.

I like Solskjaer and will always be thankful for his work here both as player and manager, but it’s becoming painfully obvious we are never going to be ruthless winners under his watch. It’s not even about the football, for me. I am more concerned with his infatuation with several underperforming players and consistently selecting them despite their ineptitude costing us whenever we drop points. It’s absolutely infuriating and, I believe, a hallmark of a manager who’ll never be good enough as a) he’s too loyal to ‘star’ players, which is detrimental to squad morale, or worse still b) he hasn’t identified these individuals for being the calamitous liabilities that they are.

I find that last one laughable:lol:

Yes of course they don’t know who’s underperforming:lol:

what exactly am I meant to be looking at in relation to Ancelotti and Everton??

Please explain because I am really not seeing anything close to an improvement from them.

They sacked Rodgers after he started falling away from champions League

After coming second, he then came sixth
Then the season after he had like 1 win in 9 games (think they were around 8th?)

There is no way Liverpool sack Rodgers if he was in a CL place
Likewise Chelsea don't sack Lampard if he was in the top four when he was replaced

There are quite a few better managers around, but very few are worthy of a long-term investment — and any replacement manager will get +- 3 years at least, as well as big say on our transfer policies. Rodgers can probably coach this team better than Ole, but he isn't worth a long-term investment. Nagelsmann obviously is as sure of a bet as you can make in today's market though.

Being upgrades on Ole doesn't mean much if they're not winners either. It would be a waste of time and money.

With regards to Ole picking certain players, other than Martial who he is hoping will find form, who could he replace? Our squad is weak.

The issue I have with your statement is that we can bang on about money and how bad the owners are all we want, the only team that has spent more than us is Man City, and we are making signings like Maguire on Ole's order. You cannot say we've only lost to individual mistakes instead of bad gameplans when there are a multitude of matches, some recently, where we look absolutely atrocious from top to bottom, always massively slow coming out of the blocks, surely you've seen this all seen?

I will admit we've gone in a more upwards direction, especially after all joy was sucked out during Mourinho's tenure, and Ole is part of that, I just feel we will need that extra push over the line that we won't get from him, to push us over the line. You mention @golden_blunder and his 2.5 years into a tenure, i'm not saying get rid of him now, i'm saying If Nagelsmann is available within a season or 2, we should try our best to get him, he also brings up Fergie for some reason, but this is just a fallacy in my opinion, this is a completely different era to Fergie's for start, one, Ole has nowhere near the managing chops that Fergie had, and second, we can't let potential managers like Guardiola, Klopp etc constantly go to rivals whilst we sit pretty with Ole just because he's doing okay, we need more than that and we certainly need to be more ambitious and ruthless if we want to see success again.

DDG for sure. Who would drop Rashford for then?
I don't know you would have to ask Buchan

I mean you could go four in midfield and Cavani and Greenwood but you lose Rashfords pace unless you play James

Probably for another thread anyway

Not sure where this idea of “upgrading a manager” has come from? Can’t remember any time when a club has sacked a manager just to “upgrade to someone else” (apart maybe Southampton when they sacked Adkins I think it may have been to bring in Poch)
Ok some teams use a few poor results as an excuse to sack a manager but normally it’s because of a serious threat to either relegation or missing out on top 4 etc.
Like it or not, Ole is going to be here until we either drop drastically in the table due to poor results or he decides to leave. When that happens we’ll have to see who’s available and interested and appoint appropriately from those candidates

why is this guy so highly considered as to be a clear upgrade on Ole?
I am not saying ole is perfect or anything, but this guy is, at the very least, a risk, isn't he?

I really like Rose. Calm, composed and tectically astute. No emotional dramas like Hasenhuttl or theatrics like Nagelsmann. That is why I also like Pochettino. Ole just seems confused all the time and does not seem to have that air of confidence about him.

If Nagelsmann is as good as many reckon then he should be knocking Liverpool in current poor form out of the Champions league.

Pochettino acted like a mad man during the 2016 run in. Punching the ground at Anfield, massively OTT reaction to Dele Alli miss Vs Stoke when they were cruising, battle of The Bridge...

If he does people will just say well, Liverpool were out of form anyway.

He knocked us out of Europe and we're better than Liverpool this year so far.

Considering the goal difference between United and RBL was 4+ to United, I dont particularly think the hype of this bloke is warranted.

AWB horror show aside, United under Ole easily dispatch him. Wank fest for managers and players in the Bundesliga needs to stop. He's the equivalent of Frank Lampard in the Championship. Would get found out on weekly basis when he actually needs to know how to defend.

United knocked themselves out of the Champions league with that result in Turkey.

If Liverpool was to match Uniteds two results against RB Leipzig the agg score would be 7-3 defeat.

His crying for reaching the Champions league final was most ridiculous and more so when his side ended up losing that final.

They have the best defence in the league. They just had one of those crazy wobbles against us. They’re running up pretty close behind Bayern. He’s a good manager.

Come on, the guy literally lost the semi final and was then given it on VAR. Imagine the emotions going through his body in those couple of minutes? Its way more of a natural reaction than the shit Klopp does.

If Ole gets top 4, he stays, it's as simple as that.

He's done a very good job transforming a club that was in total free fall, inheriting a squad carrying too many overpampered divas who were only here for the money such as Alexis, Lukaku, Rojo etc

Ole deserves more time if he gets top 4, to buy a new central defender to sort out the defense, and more time to find a central midfield combination that works, whether that be Garner or Van de Beek stepping up a level next season, or signing someone else.
