England team for 4th Test -

Burns
Sibley
Crawley
Root
Stokes
Foakes
Pope
Lawrence
Bairstow
Bess
Leach
In all honesty, there's an argument for this team if the pitch is like this again. Stokes can bowl some spin too.

If ever a stat summed up everything.
I was thinking along those lines.... except I'd expect to see more from a single innings of England's ODI team than the total. Batting and scores aren't everything, but this was hideous, and even worse when Joe Root's Englands premier spinner.

Grim match. Last one had really good innings from Rohit and Ashwin.

Other than the best figures Joe Root will ever get, there wasn't much to enjoy here.

That's a joke of a match. As fun and exciting as it was to watch, for a test match to be over in 2 days is ridiculous. Nobody wins from that. Yes England probably should've got more in the 1st innings but India hardly "outplayed" them like they did in the last test. As weird as it sounds for a match where a team wins by 10 wickets it was pretty even! India got bowled out for 145 and they are probably the best players of spin in the world.
As good as it was to watch- Root taking 5/8 shows that you didn't have to be a top class spinner to take wickets on this pitch. The ICC needs to clamp down on this sort of thing soonish as test cricket already has questions over it. This doesn't help at all

Interesting that Root is saying that plastic coating of the pink ball made it a lot tougher. Says that it quickened after pitching.

Really enjoying cook and strauss post match review here. Less bitterness about the pitch but addressing how to handle these challenges. If India can improve in seaming conditions, England can definitely improve too.

Crawley's knock in the first innings was pure class. He timed the ball like a dream.

That is interesting, yes. Points to this exacerbating the difficulties in the pitch. Maybe England can play one seamer in the 4th Test after all.

Kohli saying the pitch was good to bat and it was a below par batting by both the sides. Lack of application is what he attributes to.

Im fine with that, apart from Bairstow. He can honestly just be dropped for attempting to slog sweep someone on a hat trick.

In fact, how many sweeps did India attempt to play in the second innings? I was in a meeting, but looks like they played a lot straighter than England.

You don't see 17 wickets fall in 2 sessions due to solely poor application!

I think Kohli was being a bit cheeky in that interview. Bit of mind games with the England team, hammering home they cant bat on a turner.

He also knows what side his bread is buttered on. It's already bad enough for the BCCI that the first match at the new ground they've spent the entire test wanking off was such a farce, he knows better than to pour fuel on that fire.

Kohli is never going to question the pitch in India... & neither is Root publicly as this England team is far too nice as I stated a few weeks ago.

I included Bairstow as I don't think England have any more 'batsman' on the tour do they?

It's not mind games.

The stadium was one of the dream projects by our PM. He wasn't ever going to criticise the pitch.

Some wonderful analysis on Ashwin's bowling by Jordan, Cook and Strauss. England would have loved to have a bowler like him. Maybe would have been more appreciated across the cricketing world.

Nothing to do with PM but more to do with his loyalty towards BCCI. Kohli wouldn't have criticised the pitch even if it was played elsewhere in India

Red Card for Casemiro!
I was surprised at how after Jofra got out, England didn't slog out a few boundaries. You can't stay out there too long, might as well get some runs.

Rohit finishing things off in style was classy. Root talked about the ball being faster off the pitch and how that made it difficult. If the next pitch is similar, we'll know the difference the pink ball makes.

Terrible pitch, hope the next one's better. And I hope I get refunded for my Day 4/5 tickets.

They could have had bats twice as wide, the likes of Anderson and Leach still wouldn't have got anywhere near it. They both got out attempting to slog.

Would you criticise the very astutely corrupted BCCI?
No player would openly criticise their board or their home pitch especially after winning it. Do you think Root or Paine or Williamson will ciriticise the pitch after winning the test at their ground. Never happens.

I don't want England players or staff moaning about the pitch. Their job is to play better. They can moan about it in their autobiographies after they retire.

Yeah of course. My point, exactly. I don't think he'd do it under circumstances.

The fact that his position in playing 11 always come under question seems to suggest otherwise. To be fair I myself wasn't his biggest fan but the more I see him the more I admire his talent. I hope this is the second innings of his career and he plays for another 2 to 3 years. I know his fitness is not the greatest but feel he can be a useful ODI and T20 bowler too.

His all round stats are excellent for both batting and bowling. Really good player to have in a team.

Not sure. I was partly joking anyway, but if he plays like that he shouldn’t be anywhere near the top order. You’d at least just defend one ball before doing that wouldn’t you?

Definitely, hence me putting up at nine in the batting line up!!
