Annoyingly strong team considering the games coming up. This should basically be the under 9s with a few experienced heads on the bench, ready to be nudged awake in case we go 3-0 down.

    But Bruno starts. Why?
But that's not how football works. If they go 2-0 up and are all over us (and overrunning weak sides is their speciality, if you check out their La Liga results from this season - loads of 4-0, 4-1 and 3-0 thrashings), it can be extremely hard to reverse that momentum by just bringing on more experienced players. Sometimes it's too late.

Better to start the strong players, get in control of the game, and then take them off good and early.

Probably could have started Amad, but his obsession with playing Martial despite him continuing to be a failure will continue.

Amad, Shoretire, Tuanzebe in a back 5, Telles on the wing with Williams at left back.

Chelsea on Sunday in the middle of a uniquely demanding season, I don’t see why it’s worth the risk starting Bruno.
I’m assuming you mean Telles as a left wing back and Williams right?
Amad is a wide player, where wouldhe fit in? And I don’t think Shoretire is ready to start against a team who are chasing Champions League football in La Liga. He got pushed off the ball by Newcastle players on the weekend, let the kids come on when there’s little to no pressure.

For those who have short memories, Bruno looked worn down into virtually nothing in the last four weeks of last season.

Fingers crossed we’re up 2-0 at HF so Ole can take him off and give anyone, even one us posters here, a runout.
Its pathetic management - he is too scared to upset bruno so wont give him a rest

Greenwood needs to play. Martial has to play because Cavani is out injured and Rashford is given some rest. James continues his starting streak and deserves.

The Matic, Fred, and Bruno trio are the only fit central midfielders and 10. Pogba, VDB, and McTominay are injured.

Shaw and Maguire are rested, probably said the same for DDG. The coaching staff know the health of the players the best and what they are capable of doing from a fitness standpoint.

But keep in mind that there are 5 subs in Europe, so if the score difference remains the same come halftime, then yes, there will be more changes.

Bruno surely must have a contract clause to start him every game.

It’s impressive how so many people in here have a better understanding of Bruno’s fitness than our management team. If he’s playing it’s because he’s fine to, I’d be more worried about the centre back pairing.
Well he was clearly run into the ground last season and even if he is fit at the moment resting him for this game would benefit us later down the line

Like the 11, see if we can get a goal up, by end of 1st half, then put Amad on , Along with a few others. Just get this tie done and dusted by 45 mins. Dont concede a silly goal, as u all know another could come shortly after. I like the starting 11, a nice balance pity VDB is injured.
Really hope this is the case. We'll play Chelsea in two days ffs.

The Caf has an unhealthy and bizzare obsession with resting players whom the fitness team and management deem fit and fresh enough to play

Fernandes looked incredibly tired at the end of last season after being overplayed.

Was hoping Ole would learn from this for this season, but obviously he hasn't. If he goes down injured tonight or looks knackered on Sunday it's all on Ole.

This is exactly the type of game where you rest him. Baffling decision.

Idiotic. Absurd decision to play Bruno in a dead rubber. Not learning from over playing him at the tail end of last season.

His hands were tied somewhat with all injuries in midfield. If Matic wasn't 148 years old we could maybe have gone 442 with Amad / James on the wings and Mason /Martial up top. Hopefully Bruno scores one and makes a couple more in the first half hour. Then we can send young Gailbraith on at half time risk free.

Sensible posts like this don’t belong in here I don’t think.

I tried a formation with all the kids starting on FM and it works..

    --------------bishop
    williams-Axel-Lindelof-Telles
    ----------Fred-Galbraith
    -------------Shola
    Amad---------------James
    -----------Greenwood

    We only lost 3-1..

Why is ole not as smart as me?

    Pretty staggering team selection.

What is the need to play Bruno, AWB or Greenwood given the importance of the game on Sunday?

On the face of it - up 4-0, 4 away goals - it does seem overly cautious.

I haven't been one of the people screaming for Amad or Shoretire to start...but this really was a perfect match to give them some gametime. Williams too. Would also have left the starters fresh for Chelsea.

In the very unlikely event that we went a couple of goals down by half-time you could have brought on the cavalry then to see it out.

Mate i don't defend anything. I just trust whatever team the manager puts out deem good and fresh enough to get through the tie. At least he's resting Maguire, Shaw and Rashford if you like to see players being rested

The outrage is hilarious. None of us even know who needs rest. It's not a simple mathematical equation (Bruno has played x games and therefore must be xn tired). Maybe he's simply not that tired and is still recovering well and doesn't desperately need a rest.

I have to say watching him and Rashford on the pitch, I'm not surprised that it's Rashford who's been left out of the XI. He looks a little pained and tired all the time, and when he goes down he drags himself up off the ground like he's been hit by a car. And we know he's played while carrying various injuries this season. Whereas Bruno doesn't really look tired.

Well this is the perfect situation to start those off form first team players. We have a big squad, squad players need games too. Martial/Greenwood could do with some confidence. I'm most surprised at no Mata probably. And Williams at right back. Fine other than that.
