We have to bare in mind that 568M was spent by one manager, whereas ours was spent by 3 (i think) meaning a lot of our spending was getting in players to suit the style of the managers we had in.

Pep, on the other hand, had a vision and has been able to make it happen. And make no mistake about it, some of his signings haven't been great. Like, how many centre backs did he buy before stumbling upon Diaz, who is now partnered by a guy in Stones, who was apparently out of the door last season.

Ole has been here for two seasons now. He has a vision and on the whole, I think his signings have been good. He has shown progression, which ultimately is what we as fans want to see. If we want to progress further, we need to give him time to complete the project he's building.
He didn't have to buy KDb,Aguero, Silva ...
Those three would alone cost 400M right now

Brighton got a freekick. They took it quick and Lee Mason disallowed it as he said whistle wasn't blown, then has now decided to allow it as obvious whistle had gone. 1-1. Now checking VAR for offside. Bloody stupid.

God the referee standards have been atrocious this season, bizarre bunch a lot of them that need to be retrained. State of Lee Mason here.

I still struggle to wrap my head around it.

Zinchenko would be a weak link for us. Fernandinho doesn’t seem to age. They’ve coped despite Aguero not scoring and being injured. Gabriel Jesus doesn’t seem that great or score all that much.

Man for man I’m not sure their squad is better than ours. Not by the the margin we are seeing. Which leads to the conclusion that Guardiola is the main difference maker.

Is there any coaches worth going for who could elevate us to that level? I’m not sure tbh. Obviously Nagelsmann is talked about and the job Flick has done at Bayern is amazing. I’d half love to see Bielsa just for the experience of it.
It definitely is. Much better squad. The only positions we have greater depth is up front and in goal. Their players are also a lot more versatile. But at the same time yep Pep is a huge difference maker in comparison to Ole.

Lee Mason (or is it Phil Mitchell) showing why he shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the Premier League - how can he not know how often he's blown the whistle - and why

Pep has more than plans than A and B - can adapt during a game and gets players who blend together. None of that applies to us

What a horrifying advertisement for VAR yet again. An absolute shambles by Mason. What exactly was wrong with Dunk's quickly taken freekick goal there? Referee then took 5 minutes to decide on the issue with VAR and it got disallowed for no real reason. If that had been scored by United in a game I'd have been livid with the decision

Wtf did Mason do there ? Blew his whistle to allow the free kick to be took....Brighton took it and before it went in he blew again because he changed his mind....then the ball went in. How is that fair. Perfectly good goal disallowed due to the refs incompetence

If you blew the whistle to let someone take a freekick or give permission for them to take the freekick, you can't all of a sudden have second thoughts.

Dunno what Mason was doing blowing his whistle in the first place, isn't it a sort of unwritten rule you don't take it while the keeper is setting up their wall?

Mason has blown the whistle as the ball crosses the line. How can he rule that out?

Exactly that’s ridiculous....the ball was going in or was already in when he blew again. Wtf was he thinking

Yeah it generally is now. It never used to be (seem to remember United scoring a quick free kick against Lille once?) but it just causes an argument and refs avoid it now. Which is totally fine I think.

Mason has cocked up and then wriggled out of it. It's probably fair to WBA, but reflects so poorly on Mason.
