Because Arsenal are a mid table side? United and Leicester will most likely be playing CL next season. Arsenal will be back in the EL if they're lucky.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him move next summer. Arsenal won't be going anywhere under Arteta and I can see City putting a bid in for him.
You know I agree with what you say about Arteta
Tell that to RVP.
Perhaps during the era 2007-2013 you guys were in a better position to pay top players more money.

But never felt even at that time the gap was immense. United won in 2013 then came 7th the next season.

Never been a step up. In fact Sanchez came out a few months ago and said going to United was a step down.

Fact you've not won even a carabao cup in five years back this up.
There's no way you actually believe this. RvP came to us and won a league title.

Because Sir Alex left and we appointed Moyes. Perhaps we were in a better position? No we were in a better position because we were constantly winning the league and won a CL and made two finals. RvP came to United to win trophies. Arsenal haven't won a league title since 2004 and won't win another any time soon.

Im not sure how you can say we aren’t a step up. Top players have consistently left Arsenal since 2004 in search of major honours. Including RVP and Sanchez to us. Why else would they leave if not for their belief that we were a step in the right direction? You could argue Sanchez was for big bucks but there isn’t any question of RVP’s ambition...

*Saka is class by the way and you’re lucky to have him! Seems like you might be on the right track with some of the talents coming through!

We just set ourselves up don’t we? i dislike Utd as much as most but this post is clearly untrue.

He's either on a WUM or just a bit dumb. Probably both.
Anyway, good that we got a result and gave Saka a full rest. He will be needed against Spurs.

Saka has been at Arsenal since age seven, loves the club by every account, and has given absolutely no sign that he would force his way out at an unusually early age. I'm sure he'll leave us eventually if we don't match his ambitions but I highly doubt it will happen before he is in the 24-25 age range at the bare minimum. He isn't a player like Sterling who joined Liverpool at 16 on a big deal for a player that age and was already a bit of a football mercenary at that point.

He also is on a contract until 2024 at only 30k per week. He isn't going to stay on those kinds of wages for several additional years, he'll want to lock in real money that will ensure he and his family are set for life. We'll probably sign him to a new deal this summer or shortly after at around 100k per week that extends him until 2025 or 2026, much like the contract Greenwood just signed.
Many players that come through love their club but very few will put that before their career even as a young lad, prime examples to that Rooney and CR7.

If he loves Arsenal like you say then constant progression season by season will probably be enough to keep him until atleast that age like you say buy if you keep pissing around in endless rebuilds and "trust the process" season's I can see his head getting turned if City/Bayern come knocking.

Well regardless whose coaching, one season your 1st then the following 7th, 5th, 5th, 6th so on the whole not a major step up.

You were in a better position to pay the top elite players more money, meanwhile Arsenal were paying debts in the midst of a global economic crisis.

Yes we've not won a title since 2004 and it's been frustrating being an Arsenal fan. But we've had the 5th-6th highest player net spend for years and have often outperformed that stat.
United are struggling to reach League cup finals and have spent millions.

Set ourselves up? Debating is the main point of these forums.

Actually do not dislike United that much; actually respect them and Liverpool as they're proper big clubs.

I was only responding to the guy who said Leicester and United are a major step up from Arsenal, I just don't see it that way. Apart from Liverpool and City every team has been weak these past four years.

You must be Quite deluded or Naive or both to think that United aren't step up even in our Current state to Arsenal ,similarly anybody who thinks Leicester are step up from Arsenal despite their current form not withstanding is also talking nonsense. United would get it right eventually and so would Arsenal both are capable of doing much better with their resources, Leicester have done well but few missteps could undermine all their good work or they could continue to do well but still find themselves behind Arsenal if Arsenal get their house in order.

Anyone who debates or submits a different opinion is deluded?

Why are United a step up currently? We're both big clubs that have lots to offer players but are struggling badly for four or five years. Arsenal haven't made the top four since 2016 and United can't even reach domestic cup finals.

Just don't follow the logic that any premier league club other than City or Liverpool would currently be a step up from Arsenal. But you tell me why United right now are a big step up and I'll respond.

Its not even about whether United or anybody else are a step up. Its about whether Arsenal can provide him a platform suitable for his talent.

Make no mistake about it, if he gets selected and plays some minutes in the Euros this summer, and then has to go back to a club that potentially haven't even qualified for European football, then he would have to be incredibly loyal not to start thinking about whether a move away is right for him.

I would change the way MO_Football92 has worded it slightly, and say that I don't think the current Utd is a big enough step up to warrant a move at this moment.

It can all change though, if Utd keep on improving to really challenge over the next year or 2, & we continue to struggle. Look at us & Liverpool, there was only a few years between their best player (Suarez) was wanting to leave them to come to us, & then us losing Ox to them.

Different things come into play, like the perceived trajectory of both clubs, regular game time, who the manager is, wages, current contract etc, & while those ticked a lot of boxes to facilitate a Van Persie & even Sanchez move, I'm not sure they would for a Saka move just now. I do think you are year or 2 further along in this teams development than what we are though.

Sure RVP would agree with you on that.

Sanchez you've got a point, but he still finished 2nd in his first season here despite having huge personal issues with form.

Both Utd and Arsenal are nowhere near where they were, but Utd are further along in the process of getting back to where they want to be than Arsenal.

Money talks and whether You Like it or not Arsenal despite being big club aren't exactly in same league as United when it comes to global profile and stature inspite of our barren years we are still a big attraction for most players .

There is this strange habit amongst United's fans and our rival fans to downplay United's appeal in the market which I find baffling to be honest ,we have gone against most of our Local rivals for players post Sir Alex retirement and more often then not have been successful . We have the resources just need to utilise them better.

Agree in part. I do think that Arsenal are slowly improving and back on an upward curve but I also think it is going to take some time to get there, but like it or not I believe that all of the players you have lost over the last decade or so have left Arsenal with a 'feeder club to the giants' stigma that is probably also felt amongst the player community as well as the fans. There haven't really been any proper stories about him being linked to a move yet, but they will come and when they do he will have a lot of people in his ear encouraging him to move on

Yeah, like you say, at the end of the day it's about how we improve going forward. I do feel we are improving, & we have a batch of young players that should only get better (Saka, Saliba, Gabriel, Tierney, Smith-Rowe, Martinelli the main one's). But we have been there before, & never quite crossed the line to be regular challengers, which ultimately means we lost some good players. So, unless we do so in the next couple of years, we will likely again.

Agreed. I actually think Arteta has done a pretty decent job there and fans like to underestimate, or simplify, the problems a manager can inherit. Similar to Ole. He definitely seems to have a clear vision and I like the signings he has made, and I think you will get better and better if you can keep your key players happy. Saka is definitely going to attract a lot of interest though.

It’s more a mentality thing I think. Since being a Utd fan I’ve won more titles than I can remember and I can’t imagine a time when I’d ever be satisfied with anything less than 1st place. Meanwhile Arsenal always seem over the moon when people mention them as part of the top 6.

Oil money has seen Utd fall behind but we are still the biggest club in the world. Meanwhile Arsenal have fallen behind clubs like West Ham and Villa who many had barely heard of until recently
That's a strange way to put it. Were you personally involved?

I don't even know why United fans are suddenly interested in Saka. He's nowhere near as good as Mason "generational talent" Greenwood.

Very happy for his performance. Young players like him, Smith Rowe, and Odegaard need to play constantly to improve. Glad that they got their game time in Arsenal. I hope all three will stay in the team next season.

Yep.

Fact is if Saka is good enough that teams are prepared to pay what Arsenal will want for him, he will have much better suitors knocking at the door than this current Utd side.

I won't dispute the whole post which is clearly nonsense but on the bolded one you may want to do some check ups before you make any similar comments. Within the last five years we've won FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League. So even in our worst period in many years we've still done considerably better than Arsenal.

Not that I'm sticking up for him, but in the last 5 years Arsenal have won 2x FA Cups & got beat in a Europa League final, so I'm not sure you would class it as considerably better, although your league finishes might be.

He's your best player for one. He's young, british, can play on the right, what's not to like. Mason is more similar to your Martinelli, who we don't need, and his future is up front. Willian isn't going anywhere with his big 3 year contract so you know it makes sense.

Well if being in the final is an achievement then we also lost an FA Cup final in the meantime as well. I think it isn’t though. Besides his point was we haven’t won anything for 5 years which is clearly wrong.

I already responded about RVP on another post. His first season he won the league then finished 7th the next. At that time Arsenal sold their best asserts to keep in line with their agreement towards paying for the Emirates.

I'm not sure I fully agree with United being ahead. You've certainly got the better manager and play more in the champions League but without really competing or winning cups despite your net spend.

Not deluded, I'm always critical about Arsenal especially nowadays. You've done slightly better but not enough for Saka to consider you as a club to play for currently.
Perhaps if you make top four consecutively and also win some cups.
Right now in the premier league only Liverpool and City are a substantial step-up in my opinion.

I'm not one to be pedantic but yes you won the Fa Cup six seasons ago under Van Gaal then in Mourinhos first campaign he achieved a Europa League and Carabao Cup double, which means you only reached won final in five seasons (2018 Vs Chelsea) and lost.

This together with the money you've spent means your actually not doing considerably better only slightly. Therefore Saka probably wouldn't view United as a destination to elevate his career.

That’s definitely true.

We won the FA Cup under LVG 5 years ago. We then won the League Cup and Europa League under Jose 4 years ago before losing in the FA Cup final under him 3 years ago.

So that’s 4 finals in the last 5 years with 3 wins. Not 1 final with 0 wins.

Saka is from the very top drawer. I was so keen for us to push for him before he signed his new deal. He’s Arsenal’s best player at 19, has great consistency at 19 and great maturity at 19. He’s Arsenal’s best player whether he plays LB, LWB, LCM, LW or RW. He reminds me so much of De Bruyne in the final third. I just know his pass/contribution is going to make sense. Over and over.
