He's been using it for a while now, apparently it's to stop people from grabbing him.

Let's coat Dan James in oil, imagine him running about and slipping away like some mad wet seal

Never understood the hype about him, baby oil or not at the end of the day he’s just a muscular Dan James.

Is that no longer allowed? Or is it just players didn’t want a massive stain of snot looking substances on their chest?

It burns their chest and footballers are soft these days.

40 years ago, players would have worn barbed wire to stop themselves from being grabbed

No idea, it was a stupid fad as far as I'm concerned.

Robbie Fowler and his breathing plaster on his nose springs to mind as well.

He’s far better technically than James and is a skilful dribbler. That said, after looking relatively promising early last year, he seems to have returned to having no end product (though probably not helped by Wolves’ negative approach and lack of a CF).

As for this, can’t see anything wrong with it. Players shouldn’t be grabbing him anyway so anything which makes it harder for them to do so seems fair game.

Great. And I thought only smalltime thieves in my country used to oil up before trying to get into a house at night.
