Pretty simple. Might not necessarily be the best players from those sides, but could be more what we need now or a combination of both.

My choices:

1999
I'm taking Keane and Stam as the absolute two no brainers. Stam because he was super quick, and would elevate our backline to world-class just like that. Absolute bastard too and would strike fear into opposing forwards. Keane for same reasons in midfield, and also such an intelligent player. I think Giggs would be third but this was tougher as it probably takes Rashford away from his best position. Hard to leave Becks or Scholes off. Scholes probably misses out because he was a more attacking player then, and we've got Bruno.

2008
Ronaldo
. Our right side has been wank for a while. Ronaldo was good. Problem solved. Rio would be next logical choice since our central defense isn't a strong point, and he'd be a great partner for Maguire due to Maguire's weaknesses. Rooney would be my other choice.

Stam - imagine this beast instead of Lindelof being afraid of his own shadow
Keane - brings midfielding ability to a midfield that doesn’t have much.
Giggs (if he played as a modern day inside right forward he’d be devastating )

2008
Rio - See Stam.
Ronaldo - Doesn’t even need explaining
Rooney - wasn’t quite a nine in those days but he’d excel in that team and allow Rashford and potentially Greenwood to make more impact from the wide areas. A complete contrast to Martial in terms of what he gives the team.

Keane
Stam
Irwin - he could play right full back just as well as left back and him and Shaw would balance the team really well; both have excellent technique/passing and first touch

Ronaldo
Rooney
Rio- very tough choice between him and Vida but I'm going for the quicker player.

Can you just imagine Beckham crossing in balls for Ronaldo? Bruno behind Ronaldo would be so enjoyable too.

I find it funny some are picking GKs when our current crop are more than adequate.
I don't think any of our GK's is good enough with their feet which is almost a prerequisite these days, hence I went for VdS.

Oh, I see some folks are doing BOTH 1999, and 2008 together with the current side. In that case, I would probably go - Rio, Keane, Ronaldo, 2008 Scholes, Giggs, and Rooney. So: DDG, AWB, Maguire, Rio, Shaw, Keane, Scholes, Bruno, Giggs, Ronaldo, Rooney. Pure filth.

Yeah, me too. I think people are swayed with us having two all-time greats in those sides, but worth noting Schmeichel was a bit past his peak then (as DDG appears to be now), but with massive glaring holes in the current side, GK is one of the last places I'd look.

Hard and maybe not all these players are the best that we had at the time, but these 3 would transform our team. Schmeichel Beckham Yorke & VDS Ronaldo Rooney

99 Stam, Keane and Scholes.
Giggs is my favourite player of all time, and Beckham was arguably star man in 99, but I think we can cover left wing with who we have, and Beckham wouldn't be best used in a forward right position.
Keane, Scholes and Bruno would be near perfection.

08 Ronaldo, Rooney and Ferdinand
Two of the best attackers of their generation, and the best pacy ball playing defender we've had.

Both teams had sensational keepers, and it's one of those key areas, but when you're so blessed with the riches elsewhere on the pitch it seems madness to use a spot on a keeper.

Thing that puts me off Beckham for this is 1) He didn't play as part of an attacking 3 like we do now.
And 2) Who would he be crossing these balls for? Cavani maybe, but our other forwards don't head!

Vidic, Ferdinand and Scholes. Ridiculously difficult question.

1999: Keane is a must no matter who we have in midfield, Beckham and Giggs give us consistent creativity down the flanks.

2008: Rio & Vidic should come as a pair. Ronaldo is obvious.

I think those players address our biggest issues right now.

Martial is horribly out of form, but on ability he’s better than Rashford. Rooney does what Bruno does but better, I feel like they’d get in each others way. Scholes & Pogba together would be unstoppable.
