So entertaining to watch.
I hope his Barcelona move will be done soon. He deserves a bigger stage

It's a good move for him and I guess Koeman is the one that asked for him but they still have Griezmann, Coutinho, Dembele and an upset Messi, so unless they offload some players he's going to be a backup.

Dutch newspaper (AD) reporting that both Depay and Wijnaldum are Barcelona bound.

Wijnaldum I would understand, but Depay? Naah. Also, cant imagine a new trainer bringing in loads of his countrymen is good for the dynamic in a group.

On a positive note, great chance for Memphis to break through as a rapper in Spain.
Memphis is performing a lot better than people give him credit for. A lot of people’s views here are based on how bad he was at Utd. But he’s improved significantly since then.

Him replacing Suarez (whos legs have gone) is not a bad replacement.

Ah, the good ol’ statement when you’re out of proper arguments. Such an unintelligent post, find it even more disgraceful in 2020 when other important things have gone down. Does anyone give a shit about this anymore? You have found something.... where there was absolutely nothing.
There’s literally zero reasons to question Depay’s IQ. Wake up mate. The sooner people realise the deeper reasons why a black man’s IQ is questioned, the quicker they can change. There’s so much under handed racism, I find it a disgrace that you, a white man is offended. You have no clue.

Have you even listened to any BLM stuff? Wake up!

The fact you questioned the intelligence of my post? Jog on and grow up.

Well, if you're so big on arguments, then where are yours to support your claim that Memphis has poor mentality and low IQ? Calling others unintelligent seems a little rich without those.

Also, if anything, 2020 is one of the most appropriate years ever to call out posters on what seems to be jumping to stereotypical conclusions on a Black player. You ask: 'Does anyone give a shit about this anymore?' Yes: now more than ever.

But of course, if you do have insights into Memphis's mentality and IQ that aren't based on his music hobby, then I'd be interested in those. (Well: I don't care so much about Memphis outside his football personal, but I've gotten curious now.)

He and Lyon are doing well so far this season. Still some work to do for him to surpass himself from his 2017-18 season though.
Would be cool if he stopped embarrassing himself with that autotuned misery.
As he's a free agent after this season he could go anywhere. No idea what league or club would suit him. If Koeman stays at Barcelona and they still can't spend, that might actually be the most logical move.

Bruno and Memphis might not be too different in playing style, with Memphis doing kinda similar stuff in a slightly more advanced role. I'm wondering if Bruno and Memphis playing together would create a mess because they'd want to do the same or similar things too much, or if they'd complement each other in wild ways. I'm thinking you'd have to give them all the space in the middle to go nuts together, and then put people around them that can feed into and off them. (Definitely not people putting crosses in.) Shouldn't that work well with Rashford, Greenwood, and Martial?

(Totally theoretically of course. His mind is probably set on Barcelona - although he might want to come back to prove he was United-worthy all along. I'd think he would need the coach to see a starting spot for him though. (As much as he'd have to prove subsequently that he's worth it, of course.) Giving his current role at Lyon, I doubt he'd want to go somewhere just as a rotation option.)

Apparently Liverpool have made a bid for him. Would be such an annoying transfer. Which makes it very likely to happen.
To think we beat them to the signing of Memphis in 2015 and they went for Firmino as a fallback. That ultimately worked out pretty well for them, meanwhile Memphis was disappointing for us. So we sold him and inserted a sell on clause and a buy back clause as insurance as we felt he could still live up to his potential.

Here we are 4 years down the line and his contract is about to expire and those clauses with it and Liverpool might be picking him up in his peak years for free.

Super, smashing, great.

He's proven over quite some time now for both Lyon and the Dutch National Team he can deliver goals and assist on a very consistent level. The skills are all there to also succeed at a top tier club in one of the top leagues and become an important squad member/starter there.

The thing Im still curious about (could turn out both ways, no upfront judgement from my side) is to what extent he is able to thrive in a team where he isnt the most important attacking player, where the attacking play isnt necessarily build around him and where he perhaps has to do some concessions in his style of play/freedom for other (more) important players of the team.

Barca is a really interesting option because of his relationship with Koeman. For Bayern he could be an alternative on the wing or for lewandowski (when resting him) who is getting 33 this summer, Juve could be interesting as I suspect they will go full rebuild. For Liverpool he could offer some more fresh blood upfront and really challenge Firmino as a false 9. I can also see him becoming an integral part of a AC Milan revival where Zlatan obviously wont last forever.

To be honest Liverpool is the only English club I can see going for him. United could have been an option if it wasnt for his first stroll here. Dont think its a good idea and start for him to come to a club where such a part of the fanbase already has some negative attitude towards him from the start. However he is also a very eccentric and proud guy, so I can also see him wanting to prove here that he cán succeed at Old Trafford.

Like I said, really curious..

I'm still not convinced. He has games where he is unplayable and a true menace and goal threat, but then he has games where I want to pull him through my tv and kick his arse after the 19th failed backheel.

I'm not sure if he still does, but he used to post quite a bit of pro-Utd stuff on his social media in the years after he left. Seemed to still be a fan and follow us, rather than being bitter about how it all went down.

I respect what he’s done since leaving us but I’ll never forget how bad he was at United. Generally one of the worst wingers I‘ve seen at the club, he was absolutely dreadful. At the end of his stint he could barely kick a ball, almost everything he did was a mistake.

I was so hyped when we signed him too, easily one of the top rated youngsters in Europe it felt like we’d signed the ‘next big thing’ it’s a shame really.

I think that's a bit unfair.

Memphis ended up competing against Martial and Rashford for the LW spot which ended up being one of Memphis's worst positions in his career compared to being played centrally.

Him in place of Firmino should give Liverpool that false 9 ability centrally inbetween Mane and Salah with some more goals than what Firmino puts on the table.

And less ability to link the play and/or effectively press

The expectation, in particular goals and free kicks really didn’t help. Does he take free kicks for Lyon, because he turned out to be really shit at United with them.

Presumably he has more intelligence about his play these day, I can’t say I’ve watched him. But what struck me about his time here, was how slow he was.

A really disappointing signing, but wished him well. He clearly has some growing up to do off the pitch, which didn’t help his relationship with the fans, but he always tried, just nowhere near up to the pace and intensity of the PL.

I think he's a bit better than Martial (but 2 years older) but worse than Rashford. A good player and not the worst option for a club, but depends on the price

He does this for Oranje too. With Berghuis we have someone with an amazing left foot, but Depay just claims all setpieces. He's ofcourse a bigger name and better player, but Berghuis should be taking everything.

He's scored more free kicks for PSV in that fluke season he had( 6 goals scored from free kicks in 2014-15) than he did in the past 6 seasons for utd and lyon combined - 5
He's massively overrated as a set piece taker

it’s strange that, they’re not usually something you can just fluke. he genuinely scored some absolutely crackers at PSV, maybe it’s the lack of decent keepers in eredivisie

Definitely, I remember watching his free kick compilation and it was embarassing for keepers what kind of free kicks he scored against them.
