After that game, Carragher was adamant United missed a chance by not trying to win the game. Neville on the other hand kept saying how this was still Anfield with or without the fans and if United were playing someone else they would have gone for it. Liverpool have lost every game at Anfield since then - 5 in a row. You can see the discussion below.

I was so disappointed that we didn't try harder to win that game and never understood Neville point about us not being ready. This was Liverpool without a crowd, in bad form and no central defenders. We might not have a better chance to win at Anfield in years.

But Ole had no Werner ( £47.70m), Havertz ( £72m), Ziyech ( £36m), Chilwell ( £45.18m) or Mount so it was totally ok not trying to win there.

Liverpool v Utd is different than every other game. Plus we should have won 1 nil as well and kept fecking up balls over the top.
It was a similar tactic to what all these other sides are doing. We just didnt score because we kept overhitting our killer pass.
1 week later we played the same way and scored 3

The 1st 20 minutes of this game were terrible and a bit embarrassing, we played ok after that.

Even when they were proper shite and we were winning titles a point at Anfield was a good result. Context goes out the window with this fixture. That said, I think we could have been braver in game.

Did they not try and win the game? Seem to remember the two best chances of the game falling to Fernandes and Pogba near the end. They just didn't take them.

Ole himself said he was disappointed to only come away with a point.

We should have won. Simple. Gets more frustrating by the week every time the wankers lose at Anfield against literally everyone else.

It was still a decent result I had no problem with it. It's the other results against Sheffield, WBA and Everton that led us to where're currently are.

Conservatism is obviously great in modern politics, but not so much in modern football. Ole needs to be more aggressive; we certainly have the team for it. Liverpool were there for the taking.

Fully agree with this, our inconsistency is killing us.

This mentality needs to stop.

I can not wait til the day we get a great manager who also plays on the front foot more often than not no matter the arena. Exactly what City have with that bald fella...

It’s not a mentality, it’s the truth. Liverpool would forget they were 8th and suddenly play like a team possessed.

It was the day we decided we weren’t going to bother trying to win the league. They were there for the taking. We didn’t want it.

I know this is TopRedCafe & you all love Ole, but your hero is a coward, I’m sorry to say.

Our finishing was poor, but we had the chances required to pick up all three points. We can moan about the outcome, but not the tactics.

Thing is if we were to play them at Anfield now I don't think the result would be any different even with them now having lost 5 in a row

Our form isn't much better. The only difference is were drawing and they're losing by an odd goal.

I said so as much.

Losing to sheffield and drawing to everton knocked out our sail let alone the wind!

It was obvious to almost every fan that Pool were there for taking. They were coming from a defeat against Southampton or something I believe and if we played our usual stuff at that time, we could have won.
But we have a very cowardly approach to all big games. We play not to lose. I don't know if Ole was affected by the crushing defeat to Spurs early on, but it seems that he has zero belief in our defense holding on their own. So he feels the need to put 2 more defensive minded midfielders every time. Doesn't matter if it is warranted or not.
And the same approach spills out into our regular games as well.

I wouldn't feel bad about it because eventually people will realise he isn't up to the job

I agree with the op.
Fergie would have got the scent of scouse blood and gone for it. Olé was far too cautious. I actually think that's when the current rot set in.
Liverpool have now list 5 in a row at home for the first time ever.

I thought we played well and should have come with the 3 points. Poor finishing has cost us big time this season. Chelsea didn't create many chances either. In big games you only get some good chances and you have to take them. We have not, be it against Liverpool or PSG or Arsenal.

Yeah even Brighton & Burnley won at Anfield which showed up our negative approach

Yet, if we'd gone for it and ended up losing 1-0 all these same names in this thread would have been spitting feathers and shouting about patterns of play, PE teachers, standards and other such mindless shit.

This place is riddled with entitled whiny little smacked arses throwing their toys out of the pram week after week. Every thread derailed with the same shit.

Used to enjoy coming on here, but now, it's just a toxic bitchfest.

Even Van Gaal thought “feck that”, we can beat that lot at anfield. Juanfield should’ve been a bigger win for us. That’s the type of mentality needed to win the league again, sadly Ole has his mind stuck on a prior era.

Man City’s version of this rivalry is Bolton. Hardly an arena going there

If we went for it and lost at least then this talk of that unbeaten away run would be over which could be what we need to snap out of this slumber of just accepting draws as good enough results

It seems far too many are happy with the “we’re unbeaten away from home over two seasons albeit during Covid and empty stadiums” trophy.

 Well played.

On the OP, we area reactive team. Even if Chelsea are boring they take the initiative so them beating Liverpool while we made them look better than they are (now) is no surprise. It's just weird that even Everton managed it and we didn't. Looking back, the first half where we basically refused to play football was awful and a few late chances really made us feel better about the game than we should have.
