Will VDB be back for this one? Not keen on Matic and McTominay midfield. Feel so much more secure with Henderson in goal though. Not saying he's a better keeper. Just feel he's what we need right now with our defence. Someone who dominates his area more. Loved his set up for Shaw.

I just hope Matic plays in the midfield and not at left centre half.

Deano, AWB, Bailly, Maguire, Tells, Mctominay, Matic, Fred, Bruno, Rushford, Martial.

Will most likely be James or Greenwood in for Matic

Some people in this thread saying saying they play open and some say they will sit back and counter. Not seen them at all this season but let's hope it's the former, otherwise it could be a long night.

A possibility United could well start this game without 7 of Ole first choice 11.

DeGea (new daddy still in Spain)
Shaw (got a knock v City)
    Lindelof (managing his back issue)
Fred or McTominay (both won't start again)
Pogba (another game too soon for him)
    Rashford (ankle injury)
    Cavani (another injury)

Two other options and would have featured if fit is De Beek, Mata.

Based on this the logical lineup would be:

Hendo awb maguire bailly telles matic fred bruno martial james greenwood

Let's hope Martial puts the effort in again, been one of his biggest critics his season but he put a shift in against City, needs to show consistent effort now and set good examples to the younger members of squad like Greenwood, James, Shoretire and Diallo

Big game vs west ham at the weekend...so changes will take place

Can see Mctom, Lindelof, Bruno and Shaw being rested

Shame VDB isnt fit, ideal game for him. Hope Cavani is fit and Martial plays from the left.

They can mix it up to be fair. A bit like us I don’t think they have a dominant set style but they do counter quite well. I’d imagine they’ll take a pragmatic approach playing us.
Kessie in midfield is probably their stand out player.

our lack of depth will be exposed here. I wish we had Shaw fit for this
Shaw's position is probably one of the few we have multiple good options. Telles has proven to be more than capable of stepping in for Shaw.

    I’d like to see:

    Henderson

    Williams
    Bailly
    Maguire
    Telles

    Mctominay
    Matic

Bruno (or ideally VDB or Mata if fit)

    Greenwood
    Martial
    James

So what are AC like currently? Don’t follow much of the Italian leagues.

Would a weakened team from us be enough to get a result in this first leg?

They've got a lot of key players out for this one, so we should be able to make a few changes.

That said, I hope we don't make too many - now we've got a proper European tie/there's good competition to come, I really hope we take this seriously.

Thanks. I’m pretty sure Ole will take it seriously.

It’s a nice draw, bit of the old ‘glamour’ to it. Looking forward to it.

I think this will be uncharacteristically comfortable for us. 3-0 with a lot of possession.

I hope we don't change too much, and capitalise on their injuries. Kill the game in the first leg.

Really looking forward to this one.

The crap thing about Europa is playing against random teams you've never heard of. This game could (and should) be a CL tie. They'll play an open game which will suit us and there isn't really that much pressure in the EL either, especially now we're pretty odds on for top 4.

Despite our injuries, Fred must be rested. Him and Matic together is too defensive anyway, McT is a better link to Bruno and the forwards.

I feel optimistic about what James can do in this game. We need to see more from Martial to get anything though. He was good against City but only because it was a game that required him to do a very specific job, mostly the one thing he can be bothered to do most games these days, hold the ball up. He'll need to be more expansive against Milan.

That should very rarely happen apart from in the qualifying rounds - same as the CL. If a person hasn't even heard of most of the clubs in the group stage of the Europa League, and especially the knock out stage, then that reflects worse on their knowledge of football than the Europa League.

And why does it really matter that our opponents have to be 'glamorous' for people to be interested in the match?

Do those same people not care about league games if they're against the likes of Burnley, Sheffield United, West Brom, and only watch them against the 'big' teams? Or only view the latter as 'proper' league games? If not, why only view 'proper' cup matches to be those against elite opponents? Both the league and cups have bigger and smaller, harder and tougher games throughout the campaign - they're all 'proper' matches.

Well the whole point of European competition is to compete against the best and I definitely look forward to games against PSG more than I do against Otelul Galati. This is not a slight on clubs like that and they also of course add a different dimension to the competition.

At the moment I do care less about games against Sheffield Utd and West Brom but that is mainly down to how we play against them. They sit deep all game and we cannot break it down. It makes for a tumescent game of football. So yeah I'm looking forward to playing a better team.

Based on the training pics on the official site Rashford hasn't trained and no one is returning from the players that are out.
Bit of rotation would be still needed though.

    No it isn't.
It's to play against teams representing all countries across Europe - whether they're champions / top 6 / cup winners from leagues both strong and weak.

The expectation is the cream will rise to the top and that, as the competition progresses, the standard of opponents will get harder. But the whole point of seedings and different pots, and group winners drawing runners up in the knockout round, means the top teams are not expecting to 'compete against the best' until the later rounds and that most group games, and early knockout rounds in the EL, won't be against some of the other tough teams in the competition.

So I'd have expected, and preferred, easier draws in the last 32 / last 16 of the EL - and to save the likes of Milan, Tottenham, etc, until the last 8 onwards when it becomes tougher to avoid them.

I just hope we put the tie to bed in the first leg. We need our main players to be only spectators in Milan. There's another cup we need to progress in right after. Milan are not in great shape so we should walk this one.

We'll have to agree to disagree. We play enough 'lesser' teams in the cups and it excites me to play against the best, so I'm happy we're playing Milan. It should be fun!

Half of our ideal Starting XI: Theo Hernandez, Bennacer, Rebic, Calhanoglu and Ibrahimovic (+ Mandzukic) won't even travel to Manchester

Well, it was fun while it lasted..

Are all those players injured for you guys or just being rested for the Napoli game this Saturday considering that’s pretty much the more important out of the two games?
