Surely asking about classic players being able to play in todays game should exclude players who were still playing in the 2000s
His short passing and ability to link a game, play out of tight areas was never at the level of the top CM players, magnificent long passer(even if he became infatuated with it) and crosser, but not a game manager.Did he not play that role at Madrid?
Exactly what I thought after seeing the title. Didn't he have quite poor goalscoring record though?I think Giggs might have had a very different career in the modern game. Playing as a forward in a front 3 rather than working up and down the wing in a midfield 4. Defenders picking up yellows more easily. Looser interpretations of offside. Would have scored a lot more goals in my view.
But he was one of the best defenders in the world during the early 90s.Paul McGrath - Now he'd be better looked after and would almost definitely be one of the best defenders in the world.
McQueen would get found out positionally and give away way too many free kicks in the modern game. His positioning was atrocious back in the 1970's so modern players would pull him all over the place.Martin Buchan: modern day CB
Tony Dunne: quick attacking LB
Best: goes without saying
From the Tommy Doc era
Gordon McQueen: dominant CB
Steve Coppell: class RW
Stewart Houston: modern day attacking LB
etc
I think he is the type of player that would struggle a lot.Probably the most Kanchelskis looking action I've seen pre-Kanchelskis (1:43)
I think saw play it once or twice for them their.. Its a team I dont really watch , can’t pass judgement there. Where did he play in the 99 finals? His short passing and ability to link a game, play out of tight areas was never at the level of the top CM players, magnificent long passer(even if he became infatuated with it) and crosser, but not a game manager.
I'm not sure about either statement you made there at all.Beckham would literally be Kevin De Bruyne, but better.
