Let's just say his best moment this game was deciding not to touch the ball for Greenwood's goal. I thought my comment would be clever but it appears a lot of others here agree.

Nice dummy for Greenwood's goal and a tackle in the 2nd half that won possession high up the pitch. The rest was his usual safe passing, often backwards. 0 shots, 0 key passes, 79% pass completion, 1 successful dribble, 1 tackle.

Whole lot of nothing again.

Well not strictly true, whole lot would suggest he was involved, he wasn't, just a guy there on the pitch, running around slowly, the odd nice touch but generally anonymous. I don't know if he had the ability but on what he has shown he absolutely lacks the character and mentality to play for this club.

Out of excuses now, make an impact or move on.

He's one of the worst signings we've made in recent years given the price tag - 27 games now and I can't remember him doing one promising thing. Just constantly passes sideways and backwards. It's like constantly playing with a man down.

I get it he scored goals in the Eredivisie, and Bruno scored in the Portugese Liga and continued that form in the PL, but whoever scouted Van De Beek must be questioned as we spent 60% of our transfer budget in the summer on him and he's next to useless. Someone like Buendia in the Championship would've been cheaper and a lot better.

People saying he needs to be played in the correct position or system - that could be true, but making forward passes, running with the ball - these are the bare minimum and he doesn't do that. Watching Lingard today against Arsenal and he looked on another planet to VDB.

I don't know what it is, but if we can sell him back to Ajax for about half his transfer fee that'll be good business for all parties involved. Use it towards someone who actually contributes something.

I thought he was absolutely diabolical today. Not because what he tried didn't come off but that he seemed to show nothing that would suggest he even wants to win a place. We hear all these noises coming out about how he's been disappointed with his start at the club, why doesn't he show it?

I would rather see a player out there chasing every lost cause, giving the ball away trying things, making decisive runs than just standing on a man, turning backwards to pass, not interested in getting forward. That moment when he dropped it off to Martial who drove forward and he just stood still leaving the guy isolated summed it up.

He needs to realise it's not about tidy passing stats, he simply has to show the drive to suggest he's a Manchester United player. At the moment his approach is so off the mark it is incredible, I was in complete shock on a number of occasions today.

A player who hardly gets a game finally gets one, but without any movement around him, without Bruno, Cavani and Rashford in the starting lineup to help with that movement and quality, and with Fred + Matic + Maguire having a nightmare behind him and barely getting the ball to him at all. Was Martial even awake in this game?

Nobody had a great or even good game today.

Bizarre transfer.

Don't see anything redeeming about his play.

All that 'Dream like Donny' shit was fairly cringeworthy at the time of his signing, it's even worse now looking back on it.

Lindelof and Fred were dirt in their first seasons but it looked like they were just struggling with the pace and pressure of the Premier League, Donny looks like he doesn't even care.

LVG-esque signing.

Hardly had a kick yet again. He ain’t united material, sell him and recoup the fee.
Ironically his best moment was letting the ball pass him by for GW to score

Nice involvement for the Greenwood goal, but he absolutely doesnt get involved enough in the AM role for us. I say again stick to giving him chances deeper on the ball in the 2 DMs like McTominay gets

Absolutely horrendous signing, best for everyone concerned that we move him on in the Summer - it simply has not worked for either party.

Fred was dire, absolutely horrendous in the first half but at least he was trying - Donny looks like his heart hasn't been in it for months.
I am starting to lose hope here, he offers absolutely nothing.

We have to sell next season and take the L on this one.

At this rate Lingard is better than him, and we all know how Lingard was terrible for us in has last 3 years or so.

There were two times in the game when an attacking transition was on and he played the ball safe instead of forward for the counter. Not sure his style suits the club.

He would do well only if we're playing consistently in the opposition box which will never happen under Ole.

I feel sorry for him in a way. You can see he has excellent football intelligence but he's not quick enough to impose it in the PL, he doesn't match up to it.

Tbh I've no idea what's wrong with this guy. It's like it'd end the whole world if he tries a pass forward. Very weird player.

Can you? I can't, he's meant to be an attacking player and yet all he does is pass it back. He looks scared to make a mistake which is weird as it's not like we've got Mourinho on the touch line and there's no fans in the ground to give him grief either. Big season for him next year as if there's no improvement after 2 seasons at the club then it's hard to imagine him turning it around

Can whinge and moan about the Glazers and Woodward all we want but when those in charge of our recruitment spend 45 million on this they have a lot to answer for. Meanwhile Leicester spent 35 million on Tielemans.

Said it last summer, the £40 million should have gone towards signing a defensive midfielder. The signing made no sense then and it makes even less sense now. A shocking signing for a shocking player, utterly awful.

Always went backwards with the ball, even when he had space and time.

He did well for the goal, but aside from that he looked scared of taking a risk or trying something.

I think the experiment should be to play him in Fred's role, which forces him to play it forward.
But, there's this obsession with him being Bruno's backup.

Sooner he’s sold the better. For everyone involved.

Yeah (f I look at him overall rather than in just this game), he can at times such as the dummy for the Greenwood goal but 90% of the time it's not coming off because he isn't at the pace requrired for the PL.

Today is why he doesn't get any minutes. An absolute passenger.

Incapable of seeing a forward pass, no authority, poor decision making, passive...
