So, how long do we think he is going to stick around if things don't pick up? I don't see him as the type of player who has the patience to persevere with stuff for too long.

He seems to be getting more and more frustrated with every passing game. I think this is affecting his game. It was great freekick, but his overall performances in a lot of games this season hasn't been great.

2 and a half seasons at Sporting, we'll be 1 and a half through at United by the end of the season. I guess we panic?

Don't even want to start thinking about that.

I think Bruno came in and we clicked, big impact and we start to play some good stuff.

But then in the vacuum where actual coaching should be, a "just give it to Bruno" mentality creeps in. It works and Ole looks like he is taking us places and the team is getting results.

Then Bruno's form dips or he is marked out of a game and suddenly we look clueless. Our results start to drift, he gets tired and/or is unable to create a result.

Bruno has kept Ole in the job but our over reliance on him will bite us on the backside as we will not be coached or managed into getting results.

We're garbage without him

Why he didn't start this game but he started the Sociedad second leg is baffling (if the intention is to rest him)
And with international football coming up too

There have been complaints about his performances going back months and months now spanning a huge number of individual games.

Hes had the odd moment but he's not had a quality 90 mins this year has he? Maybe Everton at home?

He was impactful and energetic when he came on...shame nobody else around him really was, outside maybe Greenwood.

People talk about how he'd go up a level with more technical players around him - and he definitely would - but just imagine how good he'd be in a team that actually presses competently...who have actual systemic pressing triggers.

He'd be an absolute nightmare to play against under a manager who's capable of instilling a proper team-wide press. As it stands he's expelling a huge amount of energy every match pressing almost by himself, and getting very little out of it because it's pretty fecking easy to beat a one man press.

He’s never been a 90 minutes player though. Doesn’t need to be. Still by far our most important creative force. Which gets rammed home every time we try and start a game without him.
Yeh I should have probably qualified that with it not being a criticism. But in a team as devoid of final 3rd ideas as ours, him not playing out of his skin becomes a real problem in the short term.

I dont buy this 'looking elsewhere' concern quite yet though. He was pissing about at Sporting until his mid 20s. He will be loving being the main man at Utd for the foreseeable future.

Yeah, it’s not as though there’s a tonne of options anyway. The big Spanish clubs are broke and (despite all the self loathing on here) there are very very few clubs as big as United in the eyes of professional footballers.

Ole explained that he broke all sort of records in Milan game with his crazy work rate. I think he is a very close to 90 mins player in that sense.

For creativities, our front line this season has been a bit shite. It was better in 2nd half of last season and made our attacking looked better as a whole.

We really do need to add at least another quality player in the front line this summer.

He signed a 6 year contract with us. He isn't going anywhere

Don't care how much I get criticised but he will not put up with this mediocrity for very long, maybe then some of the people who are still blindly supporting this process will realise how silly that was

There are times you see him pressing and then looking and another guy is just jogging to close down in a half hearted manner or he's pointing and directing somebody to press out wide to cut off the short obvious pass, and it's infuriating players have to be told by him instead of doing the obvious thus making the opponent panic or go long or take a risk

He was sensational against Sociedad away. But in the main, no, not really. Goes back further than this year too - but he’s in the team to provide decisive moments I believe.

Our pressing is absolutely terrible, so half hearted like they don't really believe in what they're doing. Lots of the team are guilty of this.

Something they need to work on.

wow ! That’s quality
He would have been MOTM if it wasn't for Azerbaijan's keeper (who won MOTM)

Watching him and Ronaldo link up... Wouldn't mind that for a year or 2 if Ronaldo wanted to leave Juventus

Interesting question. Thanks for uplifting my mood

I might be overly optimistic here but Bruno doesn't seem like the type of person to force a move by sulking after being held to his contract. A contract that doesn't expire 'till June 2025.

That means we'll have to get stuff done before or during the 2023-2024 season.

My take on a likely scenario with a happy ending:
  • We'll do one significant signing this summer for the upcoming 2021/2022 season
  • We'll be able to spend bigger for the 2022/2023 season
  • The players will have gelled during the previous season and win the treble in the 2023/2024 season
Time is on our side. When we win the treble our core players' ages will be:

Bruno 29
Shaw 28
Rashford 26
Pogba 31
Greenwood 22
Maguire 31
*AWB 26
**McFred 29
***Donny 26
****Amad/Pellistri 21/22

*don't worry, he'll improve
**I averaged them, they will be registered as one player
***believe guys!
****At least one of them will make it

Now get off that ledge.

While more effort is of course generally desirable, Manchester United are not designed to be a pressing team. Pressing is exhausting work and asking a team to do it consistently at high intensity for 90 minutes will break anyone who isn't built like Fred. Instead, one of the upsides to being so feared on the counter-attack is that Manchester United are more comfortable out of possession and can afford to pick the right triggers to press. Not pressing as much as some other teams =/= bad at pressing.

Did he play tonight? Never see him on the scoresheet for Portugal or really ever mentioned

That's a pretty interesting point, I also feel we're not pressing as intensely as we usually would be because we're playing a game every 3 days. Next season I'm sure we'll see far more energetic pressing.

I think Bruno used to play as an 8 for them but also, Portugal is the Ronaldo show a.k.a Ronnie and the rest, which is a real shame because they are a side bursting with talent and are (in my opinion) hampered with the need to pass to Ronaldo every time. I think they'd benefit from Ronaldo playing as an out and out striker exclusively, but when last I watched them, he still started a few games as a wide forward.

We all love United
Read that he’s suspended for Portugal’s next game. Hope he’s already back in Manchester putting his feet up and getting ready for our league game this weekend

Has to be frustrating to play for Portugal and have a coach with no balls to tell CR7 to stay the hell away from free kicks from here on out, something that should have been drilled into him about 5 years ago.

Generally happens when a team of good players play with one of the greatest of all time. It’s not worked out too badly for Portugal in ‘Ronnies’ time through the show.

True!

Starting to feel like time they started moving on from that though. I do feel Ronaldo being a CF for them could work (if they haven't started doing that already), as then it would make sense being the focal point, and would allow other creative players express themselves more.
