Uruguay vs Ghana was in 2010. But i dont think its the same case with Ireland vs France since Suarez was sent off and Ghana had (rightly) the chance to score from a penalty spot only for the taker to miss. In my book, Suarez didn't cheat, he actually acted smart and denied the goal, which would have probably meant that Ghana would win the tie, and was rightly penalized for his act.
I disagree, but then I really dislike Suarez.

it was 2010. Suarez stopped a goal bound header & was sent off. Ghana missed the penalty. Uruguay won the game on pens.

I have no problem with it. If a United player did that I’d love him forever.
Yeah, but...it's Suarez. Can't stand the vampire-wannabe.

Monaco Porto for me in 2004. Still bitter about Scholes' dissalowed goal -Deportivo was hard done by the ref too- I was rooting for Monaco who had eliminated Real and Chelsea in the process.

I still believe Ghana were offside during that whole incident. I would have done the same as Suarez.

Denmark, playing a fantastic form of glorious, bohemian and hearts-on-sleeve football going out to Spain on pens in Euro -84 semi final and then routed 5-1 by the same cynical side in the WC of -86.
Uruguay putting Scotland out in the same tourney was a downer, too.

I was of course rooting for Gordon Strachan in that game.

Uruguay had a really good team that year, and were dark horses to win the tournament in many commentator’s eyes. Denmark routing them 6-1 with fantasy football was a happy shock at the time.

Yep, for any United supporter it has to be this game.
We were the Champions until the 94th minute. Never forget that sickening feeling when they scored.
You know I had blanked this one out of my mind, no THIS is the winner no doubt about it.

I'm bumping this thread as I was listening to a podcast today about the game between Schalke and Unterhaching when Schalke thought they won the title in the 00/01 season when Bayern stole it with the 30 seconds remaining of the game from an indirect freekick. As Bayern has gone on to win nearly every season and Schalke look destined for the drop, you can't help but feel sorry for Schalke and wish Bayern wouldn't have scored.

City Vs QPR, pretty much thought we'd won it and ran to my neighbors house next door where they were all watching - i took about 4 steps into their house and hear Aguerooooo.

Scarred for life.

Yep pretty much what's been said on this thread, AC Milan Vs Liverpool, 3rd only to Ghana Vs Uruguay, 2nd only to City Vs QPR.

France vs Italy World Cup final, seeing Zidane retiring that way after leading and inspiring a declining France into a world cup final, damn tough pill to swallow.

Surely by a country mile it has to be City 3 QPR 2.

None of us gave a dreadful QPR even the slightest chance, but they somehow got ahead even after Barton's idiocy.

Then that fateful moment where QPR realised they were safe, and almost instantly dropped off their effort levels, and let City back in it.

Never felt so stressy after a game, shaking with adrenaline.

So many bad moments, like when QPR conceded the first and just punted it straight to City to have a run at getting the inevitable winner, the ball falling perfectly for Aguero, and that over the top Tyler nonsense, and that uber prick Cisse arms round a City player delighted after the game.
Yup...no idea how this isn't the first game mentioned. Sure, it sucked seeing Liverpool celebrate their comeback win over Milan but nothing hurt like celebrating another title only to see City score twice in injury time to rip the trophy out of our hands on goal difference. That one hurt...

Because that game directly affects United therefore it shouldn't count, in the spirit of this thread.

Anyway, the 2014 Champions League final really sucked.

Brasil vs Germany at the 2014 world cup. I guess you expect some tense close game in a semifinal between these football greats and not a 1-7 clobberin'.

Real vs Atletico first CL final. It was so close that Atletico got that title, but Ramos scored a late goal to take it to extra time.

1964 Cup Final. Our teacher was once on Preston's books and we all wanted them to win. Well that and the fact that West Ham beat us in the semi.

Only positive is without that we wouldn't have had that great Van Persie season as Fergie would have retired then.

Although Gill and Fergie wouldn't then have left at the same time and perhaps Moyes wouldn't have come in putting us back a decade.

While it is true that many would have liked Schalke to get the title one has to consider that Bayern was not the dominant force it is now - for a long time they more or less one every second title and that's it, a lot of other teams one during the 90s and 2000s (including Kaiserslautern who you should feel really sorry for as they are now playing in the third league and are at risk of getting relegated even lower).

Bayerns run of winning every title only started after Dortmund two consecutive league wins while getting the point record for a season, when the Bayern board more or less decided it is not enough to be the best team in Germany (which then is able to win most of the titles, except someone else has a great run), but that they need to build the best side in the world. Also the lost CL final at home in Munich in 2012 was another motivation to react like this.

So the win in 2001 is not related to turning the league into the one-horse race it is over the last years.

Very true, but I think the way it played out as well was incredibly cruel.

I heard that because Oliver Kahn was showered with bananas (as was some type of custom at the time) by Hamburg supporters their game was delayed by 15 minutes and so they thought they'd actually won it after such an incredibly long wait and whilst it might be the same type of dominance as Bayern have today, that win sealed their third title in a row and they also won the Champions League that season.

Compare that to Schalke that had their chance to win the first title in nearly 50 years and it's a different story, also that they were tipped for relegation that season but beat the odds only to finish second is a very cruel ending to a fairytale season.

Both 1997 Cl and Uefa Cup Finals. That was a tough week for Bayern supporters.
