Yeah been wondering about this recently myself.

What happened with them? Does nobody wear them anymore?

Do they even make long-sleeve shirts nowadays?

If not, when exactly did this change happen?

James Rodriguez still does. I imagine for players it's harder to get your shirt pulled with the skin-tight stuff.

I once spoke to David May about this. He told me in his day if a defender chose to wear a long sleeve shirt they'd get the piss ripped out of then for being soft.

Last long sleeve I bought was the first year we had Adidas again but it was a shitty long sleeve that looked like it still had a t shirt edge with sleeve underneath, pretty awful

I think the brand that manufacture the kits just don't make them for most teams anymore. I think Real Madrid are actually one of the few teams where their kit makers still manufacture long sleeve.

Body warmers have taken over , Rashford wears them I think

to keep him warm it can get cold when he stops dead with the ball and has a look around

Always thought they were a bit of a pointless thing, I never disliked them, just wondered why they even existed.

Like trying to reinvent the T-shirt. Just get on with it.

How will they show off their tattoos if they have long sleeves?

It's a hangover from when the opposite was the case. Up until the 70s, long sleeves were pretty much standard and short sleeves were seen as a mid-late 50s fad.

Does it count for players that have the body and mentality of a 14 year old?

I wear long sleeved top with the sleeves rolled up above the elbow when I play, its the only way.

Ronaldo had the look down to a tee, but I brought my son the zebra kit long sleeved with fernandes printed on the back from the official shop, so they definitely still manufacture and sell them.

Personally the zebra kit looks better long sleeved to me.

Yep...they only did men’s in short sleeve or else I’d have bought it.

I think they'll come back in when kits become essentially what under armour is now. There was that Italy kit that was skin tight once and I can see that coming in at some point for everyone - it would give teams a huge advantage with VAR watching everything to see shirt pulling and some technical wizards will probably find out it improves top speeds by 0.000001% or something

Adidas do make long sleeve version of the current kits. The only players to wear them in recent seasons are Rashford and Lingard. I have no idea why others don’t wear them though.

Arsenal had a tradition where the captain decided if the players will wear long or short sleeve before a match, and the whole squad had to wear the same. This only changed recently when certain players didn’t want to follow it.
