Yeah it’s nuts. We have an opportunity to add one of the best PL attacking players this season to our squad for nothing and everyone is wondering how much money we can sell him for which we may or may not spend on a new signing who may or may not thrive in the Premier League.

Jesse has always been a decent squad option for us who struggled for form when the whole team was struggling for form then had one genuinely terrible season while dealing with horrendous personal issues. Which he has put behind him and worked incredibly hard to be as fit as possible. The player we’re watching for West Ham is clearly good enough to merit a place in our squad.
Lingard the squad player at United isn’t the player you’re currently watching play for West Ham, though.

He isn’t one of the best attackers in the Premier League either. That would be the likes of Bruno and Kane.

You seem to be confused about what point you're actually trying to make mate.

So is hypothetical form if he had played 19 games for United or current form for West Ham?

Because if it's current form for West Ham then i don't think 3 games is a big enough sample size to make firm statements on how good a season Lingard is having.
Is the sample size big enough for you now?

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
If Pogba stays he’s a far better squad option that DVB - plus he’s clearly a better player than Dan James. Not sure he wants to be a squad option anymore though. Something I’d also point out is the amount of space wolves are giving him would never happen if he was here. What the patterns of play twats on here miss when they bemoan our attack is that 95% of the teams we face stick 20 men behind the ball because actually when our attacking players are given space we’re kinda sorta rather good.

Great to see him doing well at the moment. Prob my only football hightlight at the moment outside of us.

Since he signed for West Ham he’s right up there with the likes of Bruno and Kane.
He’s in a period of good form. Bruno and Kane are two of the best footballers in Europe. Lingard isn’t and never will be, which is why we replaced him with, you guessed it, Bruno.

Lingard coming back to sit on the bench is all well and good but I don’t see why he’d want any more of that. He’s looking at European football at a top London club that tend to pay good wages. Or he can come back and sit on the bench every week and occasionally come in for pelters for not being Bruno Fernandes. His funeral.

Arsenal could do worse than buy Jesse. The Emirates is already his playground.
Players like Lingard, Smalling, Jones (admittedly if he could stay fit) would be great signings for the likes of Arsenal, Everton, West Ham.

Lingardinho has been involved in more goals and assists than any other player in the premier league since his debut for West Ham in February.

Fantastic to see.

Incredible that 90% of these posts here when Jesse does well is “how much are we gonna get for him” rather than “I hope he can force his way back into the squad now”

....& yet half this forum complain when we don’t have quality in depth, beggers belief.
I think there are quite valid reasons. I've rated him and defended him on here over the years. He was a very important player under Mourinho, for instance. But he's at an age now where he probably feels he needs to be more than a bit-part player. When he is on it, he's a great squad player to have and we have seen that we lack options. But he's best coming off the left (where we have too many options) or drifting behind the striker. He's getting that free role at West Ham and it really suits him. We do have better players in front of him here, and he's another shoehorned player on the right.

His form hasn't been great for us for a long while, prior to his troubles (at least as far as I know) and it may also be down to not feeling loved enough. He's getting everything he needs at West Ham and it's just a great fit. Hence, I wonder what we can get for him.

People can moralise all they want (not addressed at you specifically) but we more than likely have a tight budget and quite a few glaring holes to address. If we have players who can make us some money, that's a bigger priority than going back to him being a very handy squad option, as he may not be the same player in that situation, given what I've already mentioned above.

Pretty much. He’ll make the move, I do think. Southgate likes him a lot and he’ll continue to make the side so long as he gets consistent first team football.

Even though he’s clearly good enough as a squaddie, Bruno Fernandes plays about 50+ matches a season.

It doesn’t work best for any party if he comes back here.

Funny I was about to say the same to you.. you often don't look at or simply ignore the context of the conversation when you butt in, and create an entirely different scenario. If you wanted to ask a specific question out of context, try bolding the sentence you are referring to.

Glad he is doing fine!

Not good enough to be a starter for us, but obviously better than many on this forum thought before he went to West Ham. Don’t mind having him back as a squad player, but probably best for both parts if he stays there.

Buy low and sell high is a good thing. United should try it, for once:D

He's doing great, seems to be happier than ever, West Ham needs him, and we can't guarantee him playtime. So how much could we realistically get for him?

Based on West Ham's transfer history and the fact that Lingard is PL proven and a proven fit, I think we could get 30 million at least.

The irony isn’t lost on me that our most in form forward is currently playing for West Ham yet when he was sat in the stands at United earlier this season, he couldn’t convince our manager to barely give him a kick.

If we sell Lingard and keep James. Wow.
Neither are good enough to start games for United. James might still be here because he merited more of a chance due to his age and apparent potential. For what it’s worth, I don’t particularly rate him at all.

It’s also reasonable to point out, however, that James could do similarly well for another Premier League club if given the right move. Leeds, for example.

I don’t think it’s a particularly fair comparison, truth be told.

Same as you mate. Unfortunately Mata isn't going anywhere considering the rumours he's signing a year extension.
When I saw that, I’ll admit I was very

Agree 100%, it’s clear he’s good enough for us, why don’t we give him a chance again? If it doesn’t work out then let him go, but give it another crack!

Very fair points too, I just feel as though he has a place in the squad, however, if he doesn’t want to be a bit part player because of the WC, then I totally agree. But he can go to 1 more Euro & 1 more WC realistically. The tournaments after this year and next year is too much he’ll be 32 and probably replaced in the squad by someone younger.

Playing for West Ham he’ll get into the Euro squad. It’s the WC one he’ll have an eye on & I feel as though that would be the deciding factor on whether or not he comes back.

That being said if he continues this form and has a blinder of a Euros (if he’s in the squad) then we’d be stupid to sell him.

West Ham a good fit for Lingard as nobody not even Wolves park the bus against them.

Lingard has always showed well when he has space to work with and that's why he is thriving at West ham at moment.

Yeah, if he can stay at this level and would be happy to continue as a squad player here, no arguments. But then we'd have to get him on a new deal, and that deal would have to represent his worth to the team. As there would be no point in not selling and just keeping him for a year and watch him leave on a free. This seems to be the first time an extension to preserve value has worked in our favour.

I assume it is easier for him to play to this level when he's at a club where he's a very important player in the first XI and played in his favourite position (where we have Rashford and Martial) with quite the freedom to roam.

Lingard the squad player at United isn’t the player you’re currently watching play for West Ham, though.

Only one of Lingard, Bruno and Kane was a key part of a side winning multiple bits of silverware over consecutive seasons.

It would be convenient for people’s footballing narrative for Jesse’s career just to have petered off into nothing, but it’s going to be a lot more difficult for people to spin it if he carries West Ham to finish above Chelsea and/or Liverpool in the league and keeps Sancho and Grealish out of the England team for the Euros.

A few years ago people scoffed and ridiculed you for daring to suggest that he might just be equal to Dele Alli. We’ve been here before with Jesse. Write him off at your peril.
