Against my better judgment, I'm going to ask, why did you bump this thread @Mainoldo? You didn't post in the match threads saying how it was a bad performance but a good result or something like that. No congratulatory comments for Rashford or Lindelof. Nothing positive.

You're already in the privileged position of a pessimistic football fan. If the manager succeeds, you can enjoy the teams' success. If he fails, you can win internet points and say "I told you so". Is it really that necessary for you to make the same arguments after every game regardless of result knowing that you won't change anyone's mind? I'm genuinely curious.
I’m just not with the propaganda or bull. I talk as I see it. I always give our managers a chance but when I see the writing on the wall I’ll express how I see it. Did the same with Moyes, LVG and Jose. I’m not interested in being right or saying I told you so. I just want us to be the best club we can be.

I’d rather moan at the players but it’s quite evident what’s holding us back. I’m not trying to change anyone’s minds. I like listening to other opinions and having a debate.

I love comments like this. Mate it's absolutely normal to be frustrated after another catastrophical display. We are manchester United and if you watch for only 8 years fair play you never seen this club to be so dominant and entertaining. I have nothing to say but being so shit in 60% of games relying on players to be in good mood to do something is certainly not good enough longterm and people can see it and they moan. Not every one has a sunshine in the heart and mind to praise little things. Some people devote a lot of time to support their favourite football club and it gives them this.. If we are so pragmatic then we should win it and I will say fair play but knowing us we might feck up again and this season would not only be dire for watching but without trophy again because of poor management.

So don't take away people's anger when they want to aspire to be the best or their club where it belongs but struggling to do so, they usually have more passion for the club then the ones which say it's okay to see a game like this. Manchester United is not only success, it's a tradition of entertainment, otherwise you can check flashscore and be happy or unhappy from results right? It's something we fans can be proud, whenever I hear my friends saying how shite we play I can't care less, because I stopped caring and because I know they are not even watching United games because we are simply unwatchable, it should be an "ad for football" not a museum football.
Catastrophic display ????

Jesus H Christ, get a grip on reality. What is it with people on here trying to out do each other in being the most shocked.

Nobody in 3 weeks, 3 months, 3 years will give a flying fig about which team played the most dazzling football in the quarters if they get knocked out by a silly away goal. 2-0 away from home after an absolute gruelling season in the quarter finals of a European Trophy, we should take that all day long. Don't care if it was Granada we was playing or Granada Reports, as the old cliche goes, it's the business end of the season. If you want trophies then results matter at this stage.

Come on it’s all agenda’s to be honest. The guys that get upset with my posts on Ole.. I don’t see them in other player performance threads getting angry because some is criticising Mason’s Greenwood performance.

But I get it. If I like Greenwood I’d probably be in there being positive against the negativity.

It’s all just personal bias. People don’t like this football. People just like Ole so they stick up for him. I could do it too if I liked him. But I don’t.
Again with the pivot to a totally different point. How about you actually read what I wrote and engage with the specific things I took the time to write there?

I know it's a novel idea but try it.

Well this thread is generally a shitshow and it gets exhausting so I go to threads I enjoy.

The Ole out thread should never have been shut down. To paraphrase sassy Colin it was performing a public service by keeping the negativity contained.
It definitely didn't contain it, there was lots in here as well. The only difference is now the main Ole thread is locked during matches so there's not 15 new pages if we are down at half-time.

This is SO much better.

But isn't the debate over by now? You see the manager as the biggest problem, others see the owners/squad etc. as the biggest problem. None of you are going to come to an agreement. Also, if you posted a little positivity (like celebrating the goal/win) people would be more likely to engage with you instead of just labeling your posts as agenda, would lead to better debates too.

Anyway, thanks for answering my question, hope we win this competition so we can all celebrate a trophy together :)

People seem to forget how bad we’ve been the last 8(?) years. I think Ole is doing a fantastic job with the players he have. It’s a decent squad but you could argue that he’s been overachieving for the last 2 years.

Would like to see him backed properly in the market because that will be needed if we want to challenge the sheiks.

Stop the negativity and enjoy the ride fellas!
"Overachieving" really is a stretch. Our squad is pretty good imo, the best we had post Fergie I dare say. Imbalanced though. Pretty young, too, which somewhat excuses our inconsistency but also lets us hope for more to come from the likes of Rashford, Greenwood, AWB etc.

People tend to massively underrate our players. Just look how Lingard, arguably the worst/most useless player in our squad at the time of leaving on loan, elevated West Ham.

Ole of course deserves the next season and proper backing, but I still think most of those players are capable of more. Or at least that it's possible to have more than 3-4 players on form at any given time.

Lot of games under our belt. Its the same throughout Europe to be fair. Legs are gone.
Yeah that is understandable. And to be fair it is evident in many team's play. Fact that we are actually winning games and that too deservingly is a good sign.

A controlled and fully deserved 2-0 win, away from home against the 5th best home team in La Liga, who eliminated Napoli from EL by winning 2-0 at home, is not a catastrophe, but a job well done.

Couldn't have said it any better. The brand of football we play is awful and today's game was no different against such an easy side. The players we had on the pitch today are capable of playing so much better, the quality in our squad compared to Granada is so much better, yet we seem to be approaching all games in the same way with this uninspiring football. Yes great result but fans around the world used to sit down and watch us play in Europe once whether they supported us or not, who would do that now.

It seems many have lost any hope for Manchester United to play entertaining or even good football.

It's understandable after the standards have been lowered over the last decade, it still shouldn't be that easily accepted among fans.

Granada spent the game kicking lumps out of us, and when that didn't work they were rolling around on the floor.

Wait wasn't Ole the first to get us scoring 4 goals, 5 goals, 9 goals since I know when? So he hasn't been all that terrible. But we complained about the defense and now he has sured up the defense and we are playing more passive as a result but grinding it out. 2 nil away in Europe is absolutely fine by me. He has solved Lukaku, Sanchez, Smalling, Young, Fellaini. Has kept us in the running for Haaland, gotten Shaw and Lingard back to their best, lightened this place up. But he is missing cups to put the doubters to bed. This was as boring as it gets but my god some here need to get a grip.

I know that, but why couldn't we just attack them wave after wave for the first 20 or so minutes? Pin them back we have so much more quality in our squad than them, they should be scared going into this match they are playing against Manchester United, wouldn't you like that? To play like that against a weaker team? Why do I have to be called negative for wanting us to play like that and not like what I am seeing on the pitch.
They spend 3 to 7m on average for players each summer, can you imagine that? Having a transfer budget of 8m for the summer? And here we come with Pogba Fernandes Maquire Rashford in the squad, and players on the bench they couldn't dream of, and we play like that.

Yeah. Why not going with no defenders and no goalkeeper aswell? Just put wave after wafe without even noticing that there are players on the other side.

We played one team that is in 9th place in LaLiga. Won away 2-0 after being dominant and you still want us to do better? 8-0? 16-1? How much?

All of that is irrelevant when the referee is allowing them to foul with impunity, it makes attacking them in waves difficult.

Add to that booking us for every foul commited it leaves us walking on eggshells the whole game.

I said the result is good,of course it is, its fantastic, I wouldn't expect a better result no 2-0 is more than enough. I do expect us to play better football, it's not just the score is it? What do you think made us the most famous football club on the planet? It was the football we played.

Tonight was a good result. I think Its just this forum. Football is an infinite game but I think lots want to use our manager and period between 1986 and 2013 as a yardstick forever. Ive come to believe some people here live in an alternate reality where a football team should win 6-0 every week and to not do so is just terrible. I feel others only ‘support’ Man Utd because once upon a time we won everything and are actually kind of just neutral fans who probably should move on to following Bayern Munich or PSG. And i think others have forgotten that sticking 7 and 8 past Roma and Arsenal wasnt every single week, nor were the trophies every single season. Football has moved on and so do our fans need to. Its not a two horse race league anymore and TV money means we can’t financially outmuscle the rest of the league on our big global revenues and sign any player we want from any other team for a price okay for us. Most fans I meet in person actually think we are on a good path at the moment. Theres just a small minority on here who clamour for a ‘big name manager’ to come in and do i dont really know what. Its like they dont remember a couple of years back when they got that with LVG or JM

Well there are no easy games left this season. So we will have to wait till next year to see if this is going to change, it better, we just can't keep on playing this brand of football. We have got the second game next week at Old Trafford mind you, lets see how we play then.

Didn’t Jose say he performed a miracle to get a more stacked squad to second? We were way off before Ole got here and we are still building the team. Patience is definitely required.

Why are some people pretending we were always extremely entertaining to watch?
By the gods, in the Fergie area we had some truly horrible performances in PL, cups and Europe, getting results on the way.
Just recall our 2008 CL campaign, won’t ya?
We had arguably the best team in world football this season and we shithoused our way through many games.
We had quite enough fun and entertaining games under Ole and we’ll have many more.
Sometimes getting the result is more important.
There is no joy in failing, no matter how beautifully you played.
We got amazing 1/4 final away result. Live with it.

But I guess some people just want to moan any chance they get.

Are you really comparing our football back when we won freaking CL and league titles to us now who get crushed out of groups and miles away from challenging for the league ? Give me league titles and CL with any football played and I'll be content. Both aren't comparable and for God sake, these Fergie's comparisons need to stop until at least we put a title challenge.

that 2008 champions league win was shocking. Scraped past lyon, scraped past barca and probably should have lost the final. We went out at group stage at least twice i remember. We regularly lost to bogey teams like bolton and blackburn. Remember us getting spanked 3-1 at home to Fulham with Forlan up front trying to break the net rather than score. Remember when we lost loads of games early in the season and the teams spelt BLANC who we had just signed.

even in his last season, we had to come from behind every week and couldnt defend.

if you like the manager then getting results when playing shit is ‘the mark of a great, winning team’.

if you have a rhetoric against the manager then it means the manager is shit and should be sacked

A more stacked squad? Ole chose to dismantle it and had to get rid of certain "characters". We had the likes of Fellaini and Young etc playing, who most wanted rid of. You can't claim we had a better squad under Jose and think Ole has done a good job with the rebuild. We've spent a tonne of money in the last 4 years, plus with Rashford being older, McTominay and Greenwood coming through, the squad is miles better now.

The only thing I can argue in favour of OGS is how he got rid of a lot of deadwood in the squad, maybe he should have been our DOF and we had brought in a better manager

Another newbie another poor post.

Nobody pretends we were “always extremely entertaining” to watch every single week under Fergie. I don’t know why people constantly say this. People even moaned back then. So I don’t know where you’ve got this from. The only pretending is you pretending.

We shit housed our way through the 2008 CL? Are you drunk? We won that group with two games to spare. Went away to Roma and won comfortably in the last eight. Then shut out Barcelona for 180 minutes in the semies.
We literally had a 20 game unbeaten CL record run during this period btw. As in no team in the history of the CL has ever repeated that or done it before. Bayern failed at 19 on Tuesday.

Here’s the number of high quality CL performances we produced during that period.
Arsenal away, Arsenal Home, Kiev home, Kiev away, Roma away, Celtic home, Aalborg away, Inter home, Inter away.

Now We can’t even go to Bashaksheir and win, let alone win groups with two games left.

The reason people moan is because they’re tired of shit football after seven years. People like to be entertained when they watch football. It isn’t just about results. How much more obvious does this need to be?
Crystal Palace are enjoying their best ever premier league season. Go on their forum and most of them are depressed and want Hodgson out because they play shit football.

Fecking nobody expects us to outplay every team every week and nobody thinks we did under Fergie. However even under Fergie, between for example between 2011 and 2013 where we didn’t play great football we were still so capable of constantly scoring goals.

Honestly the state of these kind of posts. Outright Disrespecting of our legendary teams of the past all to try and justify the crap this current regime serve up most of the time.

Imagine going on the Arsenal forum and they’re like “why are people moaning, back in 2004 under Wenger we weren’t amazing every week. We drew with Portsmouth and Blackburn that season”
Do me favour....

Aye, shocking. Playing seven Cl knockout ties against the likes of Roma, Lyon, Chelsea and Barcelona and conceding a measly two goals. Yeah really shocking mate.

Joses squad also had a good Matic, Mata and Smalling. Other than that I'd say the squads are similar including the imbalances.

Amen. Couldn't of put it better.
I can't believe what I read sometimes.

Aye, shocking. Playing seven Cl knockout ties against the likes of Roma, Lyon, Chelsea and Barcelona and conceding a measly two goals. Yeah really shocking mate.
it was. fecking defensive dross. Relied on individual brilliance, counter attacked, no patterns of play. Shit.

Well done, you completely missed the point of his post, guess you would though being an absolute staunch OleOuter.
The point of his post is dumb. Comparing the kind of football played when we were winning leagues and CL to football played when we're miles away from even challenging for them is a dumb comparison beyond explanation.

Yeah keep it up. Pissed the group, got through Roma and Lyon without breaking sweat. Shut out Barca over two legs. Yeah shocking.

If only we’d matched this current team and their success of getting eliminated from a group with European heavyweights such as Istanbul’s 5th best team and a team named after an Energy drink.
The 2008 team can only aspire to reach these current heights.
