I can believe that he died days ago and the Royal Family have been mourning and preparing for the announcement, aftermath and funeral.

It'll probably be the same when the Queen goes.
Yes but think about the week long bank holiday we'll get from work
Hopefully when she goes, she goes in the summertime.

SanchOn???
Good job the Cup final's still a couple of months away. Otherwise it could have been some sort of farcical Weekend At Bernie's situation.

Hate the fact that I've got ITK information on this, but here we go anyway.

My dad is a private doctor and he has friends who work with the Royals.
He just told me that one of his friends was put on an assignment over a week ago, and apparently Phillip has been dead for the last week - but they needed time to get all the affairs and such in order before releasing the information to the public.

It sounds believable to me, but obviously I have no proof and I don't really care either way. The man's been a corpse for the last 3/4 years regardless.
This wouldn't surprise me.

I remember reading his family has been to see him during his recent hospital stay and during COVID that's usually reserved for when someone is dying (same happened with Sir Tom Moore).

That was made months ago, they probably have one for the Queen made years ago.
They have. I’ve got a couple of pals that work for the Beeb and both of them over the past 15 years or so have been tasked at various times with maintaining/updating obituaries & memorials of the monarchy.

Some odd people on the Caf. Like the kids at school who feel being naughty gives them status or something..

Anyway despite what you think of him as a person, or the institution he was part of, someone has now been widowed and a family have lost a loved one.

The Queen has been married to him for 75 years. Sadly in this kind of situation the surviving partner usually passes not long afterwards.
I think the Queen will live a very long life. It's not as if they were relying on each other in their day-to-day lives, the older Royals never lived like that. Plus I don't recall the Queen having any reported ill-health for decades and I think she's 6 years younger than Philip.

Her mother lived into her 100s of course, and Margaret probably would have too had she not been a serious boozer and smoker.

I don't know. I mean I'm only speculating of course I just know many pass quite soon after their partners at that kind of age.

I met the man once at a fundraiser. He was quite charming to begin with, albeit absolutely tired. But he spent a fair amount of time after the camera crews were gone sitting a talking with various people from all walks of life. He and I have a keen fascination with stamp collecting so we had a good laugh over the differences between the 1992 39p Welsh Sheep in Snowdonia and the 1986 17p Lightbulb commemorative ones. I pushed a little too far by bringing up Liz's 60th Birthday one from that same year which earned a gasp from his handlers, but he actually took it humourously!

Anyway, after the lights had dimmed and people were shuffling away he approached me near the chocolate fountain, where I was paper plating up some take home marshmallows, and he said to me "listen hear you little shit, if you ever talk to me like that again I'll fecking end you. I just need to snap my fingers and your head will turn into a cluster of jam textured chunks, you fecking Jock cnut." Then he lit a match off my beard stubble, sparked up a Regal King-size and said "Now, feck off pleb." before turning into his true vampire bat form and flying into the night sky to satiate his hunger for human blood.
Can't believe I got through the working week without making a show then absolutely HOWLED like a dog at this on my team 'wrap up the week' call.

Yes, it often happens to "ordinary" people. I've seen quite a few very old people simply decide to die, when they weren't physically near death. They wanted to die and they did.

They'll just put new batteries in her and we'll be none the wiser.

I shall remember this day forever. As one Prince passes, another is coronated with a completely undeserved promotion to the mains. Yes. I'm no longer a newbie/serf. The irony is not lost on me.

I plan to serve my community with roughly half of the humility displayed by Prince Philip. Minus all the unnecessary racism, of course.

He has a history of being a racist fecker, a smarmy git who frequently ignored people who he deemed beneath him, and at the age of 97 crashed his car into another being driven by a mother and her infant. I'm really struggling to get on board with the hysteria that's going on right now.
