Ben Thornley thinking Elanga would've had a chance at being at the Euros for Sweden if it wasn't for his injury  he's not even in the U21 squad.

Shoretire is going to be a top player. Positioning is really intelligent both offensively and defensively. Shame his team mates aren't always on the same wavelength.

West Ham are really scared of Hannibal, aren't they? There are so many instances where he drifts out to the right, and their left back comes out to engage him. That then leaves a ton of space for Emeran, who's been played through on goal a couple of times only for the keeper to save his shots.

Our left side seems to be our weakest point at the moment, but Devine's experiences at left back allow him to comfortably deal with runners out to the flank and allow Fernandez to recover back into a more central spot where he has some experience in.

They're trying to starve Hannibal of the ball by overloading the half space to cut off passing lanes. It's opened space out wide though, where Fernandez and in particular Emeran have had space to exploit.

Too bad Emeran isn't as talented to take advantage of that. I think Wood must get Elanga out wide, on the ball. Pointless in a central position here.

That's right, and it's also forced Shoretire to drop deeper to look for the ball. At the moment, we're lacking creativity in the middle, but we're compensating for that with more wide threats. If Elanga can get more comfortable and involved, we might become more threatening going forward.

Think he’s being coached to play a variety of positions by the look of it. Trying to make him a more all round striker

Interestingly, Brandon Williams has come off at half time and has been replaced by Marc Jurado, who makes his U23 debut.

Jesus, Shoretire absolutely murdered that lad at the corner flag.

And just after we have a great attack where we had a great half-chance to score, West Ham go on the counter, and Jurado recovers back very well to block Odubeko's shot.

EDIT: I guess I'm really far behind. :wenger:

United take the lead! Mark Helm gets yet another goal for the United U23 side. Alvaro Fernandez pushes up from the left blank and enters the box with barely any resistance. He plays the ball towards the penalty spot to Emeran, whose first-time shot is challenged immediately and deflected away to Hannibal. Hannibal then fakes his shot, dribbles a bit more, and attempts his own shot, which gets blocked. The ball gets deflected back out to Fernandez who plays a lofted cross with his right foot to Mark Helm at the far post. Helm volleys the ball from a relatively tight angle through the West Ham keeper and into the net.

Almost forgot how good Elanga is to watch.
Corbett is channelling his inner Grealish tonight
He looks a good player, feel like I've heard his name before.

Elanga makes it two.

Trademark run from the left, cut in onto his right foot and bang

Elanga looks way, way more comfortable on the left. He did really well in that second goal, particularly the finish, but West Ham were dropping way, way too deep and have allowed him way too much room. Still, it's great to see Elanga look so sharp and ready to get going.

Nice finish from Elanga earlier, Bishop's positioning for West Ham's goal looked poor.

Mipo Odubeko gets one back for West Ham against his former team. A quick free kick seemed to catch United off guard, and Odubeko had enough time and space to take a shot outside of the box and past Nathan Bishop. From what I could see, Bishop was a bit too close to his left post and left Odubeko with too much room to shoot into the opposite end, though the shot was still quite good and probably not saveable.

He scored a goal for United against Blackburn as trialist a season or so ago.

Since Odubeko's goal, West Ham have upped their intensity, and United have been caught off guard by it for a bit. Now, though, United are slowly imposing themselves again mainly thanks to the wide threat from Elanga.

Remind me please! My memory fails me on this
Got brought on in the 18th minute or so and got taken off before FT in the FA cup game, I believe. Used to play for us actually.
