This does bring back memories of Sir Alex talking about how the grey shirts that we wore in the 1996-97 season were difficult to spot by the players and played a role in some of the heavy losses at the time.

He doesn’t say it’s hindered our home form, he says a few of the players mentioned it but it shouldn’t be an issue, he said they changed to black due to the anti-racism campaign.
They ask the question about our home from and he says. You should see that change now that we've changed the banners. We've looked into it and some player say that for that split second when you look over your shoulder and the red shirt is on the red background. So when we did the antiracism campaign it was important that it wasn't red anymore.

He might have a point, I've read that goalkeeper jersey colours can impact stikers decision making - bright colours attract the strikers eye better and something about them unconsciously aiming toward it. On the other side colours that don't stick out in front of the goal/crowd may cause the striker to delay the shot slightly because they have to check where the keeper is. No idea if there were ever any studies done on this.

When it comes to making instinctive decisions based on peripheral vision then certain colour contrasts can make the difference. There is something in it. Remember when Ronaldo used to wear the white tape around his ankle? It's the same reason why Michael Jackson wore white socks with black shoes and trousers. It draws the eyes to the ankle and not to the ball, so when defending Ronaldo, it was helpful.
In fairness, given how few games we played in that grey kit it has to be up there as one of our most famous kits.

As someone who is colourblind I am completely unsurprised by this even being a thing. Having said that I find a lot of games on tv a kit clash.
While I don't think this can be used as a serious excuse, even a 1% improvement can help at this level.

He won't really though, because he was clever enough to downplay it a bit and say shouldn't be any issue.

It's a comment that we would probably rip Klopp or Pep over but in reality basics like needing your teams shirt colour to stand out and contrast that of the opponents and the surroundings is a pretty obvious one.
Weirdly I was looking at the banners a good while back and was thinking exactly this, that the players shirts would blend into the background colour. I noticed this as when a pass was played out to the wing for a split second I thought it was a miss-hit pass as I didn't notice the player who was receiving the ball. So I think it sounds silly but probably has a relevance at this level.

I was watching one match recently and a player appeared out of thin air. That's when I realized that the kit blended in perfectly with one of the advertisements and when it changed he went from invisible to visible. I think it was one of our recent away games where we were wearing the dark kit.
Didnt happen so far but then again, you being wrong aint something new.
