The backlash is only just beginning, you might want to remember that these traitors to the game decided to release the news late at night on a Sunday evening. Most players and managers are going to think carefully about their responses before sharing. As for the fans, currently we have the massive majority coming out saying this is appalling and a betrayal of the game. You can keep claiming the majority will fall in line as much as you want, but you have absolutely nothing to back that up other than your own opinion.
Have I said anywhere that it's a fact?

Posting my thoughts is obviously my opinion. Doesn't that go without saying...

Because frankly, you don't see it enough. The fact that Utd has only come up against Ronaldo about three times since he left is poor for the spectacle. Likewise, we have not met some of the elite talents in football enough. Finding a way to bring the elite talent in the game into a direct head to head competition is certainly interesting, even if the methods are not.
Yet its the most popular sport in the world despite these apparent shortcomings with a model used the world over.

This 3.5 billion payout. Is that across all the teams or EACH? Also is it across a set period of time? The wording makes it hard to tell.
I guess it's for all the teams as a whole.

Sounds boring as feck to me. My team hasn't had a proper game against Real since 1998, and we were supposed to play them in the CL semi's this year. That was truly exciting, getting to watch something that hadn't happened for so long. If we play them a couple of times every year regardless, so fecking what.

Does anyone else suspect this announcement is to force UEFA's hand into introducing some horrible new champions league that guarantees these clubs automatic entry and x amount of games each season which will be presented to the public as some kind of great solution.

There are literally billions of football fans. A few football forums and some people on Twitter make up how much of that? It's not a proper representation.

Of course, 80% is an arbitrary number but the majority of football fans will watch and pay for this. Making it a success to those involved which is why they've done it.

We've seen a handful of professional footballers come out against it. Out of how many? Hundreds of thousands or millions of them...
You are talking out of your hole. The major fan clubs of each big team have come out and said they are 100% dead against it. The internet is awash with negativity and is opposed to it. You can't say it's just your opinion when you tried to say that 80% of all football fans are for it ffs . You're using numbers that don't exist to support your obviously weak argument.

We have known this FOR YEARS.

Have I woken up on a parallel Earth? Why are people so up in arms over this all of a sudden? Have we not been owned by the Glazers for years? Did we not know what they’re like?

Neville tweeting about socialism whilst working for Sky and never criticising the City owners. Herrera playing for PSG complaining about money ruining the game. People who openly campaigned for the Saudis to buy our club kicking off.

Have I gone utterly mad? Of course this is a shit decision but it’s the latest in a long list. If you wanted the Saudi’s to take over us, if you haven’t been up in arms about PSG or City ruining the game how on Earth is this the straw that broke the camels back?
The Wummy One talking the most sense as is often the case.

I see people saying football is already corrupt, yes and water is wet, that's not the point, because you're covered in shit it doesn't mean getting a diarrhoea bukkake is ok.

But that's what makes it special? You long to play the big teams, those rare occasions, if you had your favourite meal every night guess what it wouldn't be your favourite after awhile. Variety is good, it's needed for most people. We'd see us playing big european teams a lot more if we'd actually been in the CL more since Fergie left, we've barely been in it, rightfully so, because we've been crap.

Fans like many on here who oppose this are in the minority.

The 'average' football fan just wants to watch the biggest games and the biggest stars, they don't care about Burnley v Newcastle.

The ESL is probably a mouthwatering prospect to 80% of football fans worldwide. Possibly more.

If they come out and say you can subscribe to Amazon for x amount a month and watch it all there will be billions interested.
I think the average non top 6 football fan barely cares about the big clubs at all. Even the big CL games only really hold decent novelty value once you accept your club will probably never have a chance to be a part of it.

I somewhat doubt the clubs that have currently rejected it, rejected purely on the spirit of the game and more that theres an ulterior motive involved. I think this Super League is supposed to have some form of FFP spend cap so no wonder PSG don’t want any part of it.

Maybe the likes of Porto want a bigger cut of the Super League pie than originally offered? Undoubtedly that 12 will be the ones who’ll get the biggest share.

Fair enough, I think many fans would quickly drop this line of thought if it actually happens. Games against Madrid will always be massive.

I just feel we should learn an valuable lesson and that is some people who are a certain level of rich, parasite on society. We talk about greed, this has gone on a very long time. But these people with 'big ideas' and so much money that they try to sell the idea to people who know better because those people understand the value of money. I think these people as mentally ill (the ones who have such greed that they would do something like this rather then settle just for being merely rich enough for 1000000s of lifetimes).. To parasite on a game and for what reason? They talk crap. Constantly. To push their agendas. No one needs this amount of money. But they would push their own mother off a cliff just to make an extra fiver. They're losers but you'll see once the financial markets crash if they keep pushing covid, you'll see the people with money don't actually care. You don't have that kind of money, by being nice. It's only value is to corrupt morals of those who don't have money with the promise of making money. That's it. So these people don't care but we knew that. However, at a time when people were happy for the sport to be back.....it seems you've not been missed.

You might not have meant it that way, but you did indeed state it as if it was a fact.

I mean it isn't going to make a massive difference to going to games, we would still play in the PL, and we would still play in europe. Which is exactly what we are doing currently.

Don’t see how we could stay in the prem too and still have champions league qualification places etc so we’ll have to wait and see about that

No, I don't, that's why I don't think they'd be part of a breakaway league, but Rangers vs Newcastle? Probably? There's a balance between revenue and entertainment. No one wants to watch the same 6 teams play each other 30 times, even the guys running this know that.
No one cares about Rangers and Newcastle outside of their own fans. You are being completely daft if you think that Rangers vs Newcastle is bringing you money. It''s a worse proposition than PSG vs OM which doesn't generate anything close to what Liverpool vs United would.

Do you watch the CL if your team isn't in it.

Its not whataboutery, its trying to define what we are trying to save. CL qualification is already a closed shop in England, the super rich are already dominating each top league. The CL reform already includes clauses to include top clubs who dont qualify.
Personally, ive grown to hate the idea of European football and really think it should be scrapped so this development over a CL reform doesnt hit as hard. I cant see whats so soverign as City run away with their 4th title in 5 years. Every now and then a club will becone the best in Europe to wrestle a title away but that cycle is so short that itll barely register. As we are, if City doesnt end up with 8 titles every 10 years then itll be a miracle.
That's all well and good. Yes we know the current system is broken and needs fixing. But this isn't it. This is making the current system a million times worse. So talking about the negatives about the current system and equating it to what has been proposed is silly. This is awful on every level focus on that not comparing.

Maybe it would. I'd like to see it in some form. Not this form, but a revamped champions league or super league would interest me. I personally would rather see more talented players compete together at the top.

Tottenham out of all teams got an invite for this and they are a nothing club.
Tbf this is the kind of mentality that leads to the things like the super league, completely disregarding loyal fans of their team no matter how good they are on the pitch so we can all latch onto some money machine for a little ego boost.

It does make me cringe when people who support Man United for no reason whatsoever other than glory (not saying you in particular but I see it all the time on social media) put down local/loyal fans of smaller clubs.

Lots of hypocrisy this morning. Football is dead and shit like dead. Every new thing in football was trashed and later, it was accepted. CL ("How non champions can play in champions league. Not fair. Rubbish!"), EL, bigger World cup, bigger Euro championship, VAR, 5 subs etc...
Lets see what happens. I am also strongly against this but i am prepared to give it a shot. No way that clubs will be banned from domestic competitions so it is Super league vs CL basically.

When I was a kid growing up, me and my mates used to play in the playground and dream of creating a strategic vision and sustainable commercial approach for the European football economic model....

You do know I oppose this? Christ can you stop being so sensationalist. All I'm saying is I don't think it will be boring.
