I mean, if you banned all those clubs players' from the world cup or euros, most squads would be so much weaker, and the tournament would be shite i suspect
Aside from everything else, I actually don’t think this would be true. The great thing about football tournaments is they become these huge self contained carnivals, where entire narratives and loyalties can be forged in a couple of weeks... and when you’re there, the players almost don’t really matter...If all the super league players were kicked out, I’m entirely confident there’s be a huge swell of camaraderie for their replacements (just look how reaction differs to England teams who aren’t expected to do much vs ones who are - not to mention that a fair proportion of travelling fans are supporters of these “lesser clubs” who consider England their version of glory hunting) ... sure you’d lose some interest globally, but the actual vibe would be fantastic

Genuine european cup history too.

As I said this morning, Nottingham Forest have more European Cups than Chelsea, Man City, Spurs and Arsenal combined.

'European super league' my backside.
Of course mate.

We’ve got to do the same as Liverpool today and have Ole and Maguire to strongly condemn it. Liverpool fans should be proud of their captain and manager today.

I’ll be devastated if Ole gives a vanilla half arsed reply like Tuchel.
Optics-wise, it’s not a good look to not condemn it when Sir Alex already has. So I hope he knows what to do.

I'm guessing Sky have already tried to bid for the rights and lost, surely they'd not be going in this hard on it if they had a chance of one day gaining the rights.
Which leaves the door open for Netflix to enter the world of football.

Footieflix coming to a TV near you very soon.

Exactly. And I understand why they've been quiet today because it sounds like they're confused and caught off guard. Hopefully later this week we see a united front.
The parties that matter are the fans (The global ones that Wall St is assured will only increase with the ESL, versus the local ones), the broadcasters (An unknown but it seems Disney might sign up, if not one of the tech giants) and the wildcard - state intervention in the name of patriotism and the game.

Does anyone know if financial fair play would exist is the proposed super league?
There will be a salary cap in the Super League according to Paul Tenorio of Marca.

I'm not sure if they'll extend this to include a transfer expense cap tied to turnover, too, but we'll see how this develops.

Sky and the PL have created this monster and now they’re complaining when their creation is rebelling against them. They embraced Abramovich and Mansour despite their shady backgrounds, and shrugged their shoulders at cries over the Glazer takeover and Kroenke takeover. Sleep in the bed you’ve made lads. Its too late to start wanting them out now and wipe that brown off your noses too.

That Sky statement will bite them in the arse in the future if this thing sticks. No chance they won’t want to be involved if it goes ahead.
I can remember back in the 90s Sky wanting to buy Man. United. Didn't the government actually block that as was similar anger and public and Man. United supporters to what is happening now. If Murdoch had got in then the push for super league would've started long before the Glazers got in.

I agree they've played a big part in creating this monster. Now they haven't had CL for many years and don't have as much money to burn on sports as a decade ago so they're on slippery slope and showing a downsized prem would pretty much kill their business model.

Why it kind of baffles me a little why we're so behind this. We can (in theory) compete with spending with everyone in the world bar 2/3 clubs...why are we taking that competitive advantage away? Well I know why, cos they don't care so long as the bank balance grows... But yeah, they're basically allowing clubs to catch up to us in terms of finances.
It would allow clubs to catch us but also allow us to catch others. But for the Glazers I assume it simply all boils down to bigger income =bigger profits = more money they can take out.

The only way for this not to happen is for the players of these clubs to down tools and demand to be transferred. Nothing else will be able to put an end to this. After that happens then there needs to be no more green and gold stuff and the fans need to fully boycott the club and demand that its sold. Unfortunately none of this will happen.

I'm not in favour of this thing, but people do give a shit about the Super Bowl, Stanley Cup, the NBA playoffs and the World Series.
If anything, you've named at least one sport that should be looking at fixing itself, in the World Series and Baseball... it can also be the sport that would explain why the American owners are scared, Baseball has a similar tremendously loyal fanbase, but it's a sport that's barely altered, but that's part of it's allure.... yet it's fandom, in America, is absolutely dwindled. NFL and NBA have blown past it.

Watching the Conservative minister for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport crying about a select few looking to create a closed-loop based on wealth not merit.

Do they actually hear themselves talk!?!?!?
But but but they are the people's government..

I don't know why he's taken Neville's comments so personal. Majority of Liverpool fans were agreeing with him.

Klopp's an idiot. Doesn't get it at all, nobody's having a go at the team ffs stop taking it so personally. I don't think he likes Gary Neville somehow..

Yup.

When its being played in Atlanta or Boston, because it will, the owners will make more money by doing that, then its just a football match between two teams using 100+ year old names for little other than marketing.
They also have no qualms in relocating teams. Have done it multiple times in the US.

Just feck off you parasite bastards.

I do wonder if the rage will die down and everyone will just accept it eventually like good little consumers. If this could be stopped however then the consequences of people 'reclaiming' the most popular sport in the world would be huge. It'll be interesting to see what happens, I don't hold much hope though.

Klopp is big mates with John Henry it seems. Cant say you get the same feeling that Ole and the Glazers are tight, so Klopp I guess in a way you probably shouldn't expect to say anything negative about this thing.

No they won't? They shouldn't anyway. What aren't you understanding, it's not the same organisation, its a totally separate entity. There's no logical reason why the titles should carry over.
Yeah I don't see the need at all. Just count the number of ESL titles and also say x number of European titles. Just like saying we have this many prem titles and this many top flight titles
