How these supposedly smart folks could have so spectacularly failed to read the room is beyond me.

That's more like it. Joel Glazer has to freak out but we know he won't, he's determined. The guy has never spoken about United in 23 years and put a statement out. This has to be punished by the EPL teams now. It has to.

What I love about all this is that people kept saying there's no way such huge businesses haven't covered every angle and thought of every possible scenario before such a momentous announcement.

In reality, it kind of looks like they're making it up as they go along. Amateur hour.

Won't hold my breath, United, Madrid and Juve will be the last to go. City will be next because they like Abramovich don't care so much about profits. Levy probably next with Spurs. FSG has previous history in caving in to fan demands. Messi alone could probably pull Barca out. But Chelsea alone pulling put will probably be enough to kill the project and leave no choice but for it to fall apart, without United ever formally pulling out IMO.
United, Liverpool and Arsenal and all American owned. All about the franchise isn't it? Won't hold my breath either

Extraordinary scenes from the protests outside the Etihad. Live footage:

They're all inside for a change.

The media should praise Chelsea a ton so that it forces the other clubs to back out. Then they should say "sike" and give Chelsea the slating they deserve.
Agreed, the best thing long term is if these snakes playing their hands leads to them being ousted from the clubs.

I never knew I would say that but thank you Chelsea, City, and all the English clubs pulling out. Please show the way even though you're oil clubs, and let United feel the shame here of throwing away 142 years of History in the trash bin.

I just hope the fans in general and those of the SL6 in particular don’t let the owners off the hook easily.

I’d love to see United fans protest against the Glazers on the ground and on social media.

The clubs should also be docked points and made examples of, once the dust has settled a bit.

Honestly this is happening a bit to quickly. I had hoped that the parliament would get working on that fan ownership legislation, but now they'll probably just go "job well done" when the ESL falls apart.
We need to keep up the pressure for change like this or they’ll just wait a few years and go again and they surely won’t make the same mistakes again

Hopefully plenty of heads roll at all these clubs and the fans don't forget within 2 weeks.

Well done Chelsea...still a right cnut of a club but you’ve made me a happier man tonight by pulling out first. It’s a method that’s served me well over time.

Let’s not start thinking it was just Chelsea fans that did this though, they helped a lot with their protest but Chelsea just buckled first...the whole football community is responsible for putting this shit in the bin.

I'm going to miss it. It's been a whirlwind of a few days, never been so invested in football before.. we should do this every few years !

It's the threat of those kinds of government intervention that probably played a significant role in English clubs backing out. It looks like they've all agreed to bail on this, based on a co-ordinated announcements of teams pulling out of the ESL (Chelsea, The Oilers, Barcelona (effectively), Atletico Madrid). Expect the rest to follow shortly.

Keep it going and crucify the glazers and Ed when it finally all falls apart.
This! They cannot walk away from this and expect us to thank them. The mere fact that they took it this far speaks measures. They have shown their true colors.

Our discontent has to be shown week in week out untill these despicable snakes leaves our club.

Our Boris has always been a man of the people. :D He thinks like a working man, talks like a working man, lives like a working man.

The fact that all political parties were united in opposing this and working together on ideas to block it... that will have terrified owners. It means almost any measures or laws could have been passed, no matter how draconian. They couldn't care-less about UEFA and FIFA making threats, but if the government (working with the opposition) is willing to start changing laws to destroy the value of their investments.... that's a proper game changer. I think it's this aspect they miscalculated the most. They are used to lobbying politicians to do what they want, definitely not used to having them threaten their financial interests.

If these clubs are really out, then the project is dead. I assume this was the only way for this to not happen, some of the clubs getting out. As long as there was unity, there wasn’t much you can do against it, but without unity, now the remaining clubs will be forced to back out.

But we need those oil clubs to collapse the cards first. Then we can see what we do. We need United out of this.
Don't get your hopes up, this is the Glazers we are talking about. They have zero regard for football and all they care about is the bottom line.

Even if Real Madrid pull out they will drag us through the mud until the end to the point we are the only team left and we will play our first 11 vs second 11 in the SL.

fckin right. American owners have no business with PL clubs. fcuk off!
I would agree with that as long as Arab and Russian owners will feck off too. Ideally you don't want foreign owners in any club at any sport.

Just because money usually talks, these owners assumed it always talks. Yet sometimes it can get drowned out by the voices of the people. If this disintegrates, as it looks like doing, it gives me a lot of hope that the ninety-nine percent still have a voice as long as it's a focused one.

This isn’t going away.

The clubs clearly want to do this, it’s managing the backlash they don’t know how to do.

Damage already done.
