Sorry we not losing this game because McFred are shit. I'd accept that if everyone else is doing ok. Please pick a player that had a good half......?
this is the issue, the whole team just look well off the pace. it doesn’t help that we play square pegs in round holes up front.

I wouldn't say it's bad luck, Pogba didn't need to have his arms up like that. It's pure idiocy
His arms were in a reasonably natural position, he's facing away from the ball and he didn't move towards the ball and is a yard away.
    What's he meant to do??

So why not be proactive and play with the intention of controlling midfield, rather than constantly playing a central midfield that has proven time and time again it cannot do so? We have squad balance issues, no doubt, but many of our problems are self inflicted by playing those two in every game.
Exactly. Pogba and Van de Beek would keep the ball so much better that they would have less chasing to do. Fred and McTominay just give it away so much that they look busy chasing it down all the time.

AWB has theses games where his positioning is shocking. Add in his awful attacking threat I wonder what we spent £50m on a RB. Surely there were better players out there.

Everyone in here whinging about McFred will be in the transfer forum in a few weeks time moaning that we're not signing 2 £50-60m+ midfielders. They're in there because the alternatives are non-contract year Matic, Donny the Coward and getting Jimmy Garner back from Forest.

Shocking performance all round. At this rate even if we get past Roma we will underdogs against Villarreal
We almost went out against Celta Vigo in 2017, lost to Sevilla last year. And given Emery’s record in this competition, I would argue that we would be underdogs in a tie with them regardless.

If they do knock us out then you still behind Ole or do you think he has to go?
It's a hard call as he is clearly not good in cup competitions so far. Plenty of evidence of that at this stage.

But he has got a new contract anyway so the point is moot.

To me it's not acceptable to lose what 5 or 6 semi finals? By odds alone you should make a few finals.

Plenty of football left to play. Let's hope he makes a sub at half time and shows improvement in where he has consistently failed.

He stays but its fecking pathetic...how much of a shambles our side looks at so many intervals in games. It's like some sort of catch up mode gets switched on in favour of the opposition and we just play utter dogshite and nobody can fo the basics or use brain cells in game. Football IQ just shrivels into non existence.

But for what he has done with the club and the air around it he deserves to stay, at least another full season without recrimination.

The thing is as average as Roma look they still have players who can string 3-4 passes together without a heavy touch or misplacement. It’s the lack of basic technical ability that is present in even our best players that is so glaring.

It's time for Ole to earn his new contract and prove he's more than a PE teacher. This is not the game to wait for the 85th minute to make changes.

The players are out of position always. They don't pass as and know how to use space because Ole is on record saying that he doesn't play like that. This is why players are getting caught out of position all the time.

In order to use a McFred pairing, we put Rashford on the right and Pogba on the left.

This nonsense needs to end after the summer transfer window.

I think we just need to regroup and take our chances. Greenwood is definitely an option.

Pogba does seem to have these things happen to him. He’s careless and it comes across as deliberate somehow. He had a fat handball against Liverpool and even his booking in the last Europa league was a stray arm. He seems to get away with nothing.

It's actually unbelievable that we're losing that at half. From the control that we had, down to the injuries they picked up. It's just not acceptable concede how we did.

The first goal fair enough is unfortunate to concede the penalty. Pogba's arm shouldn't be up like that, but look I'm not going to kill him for that as weird stuff happens when you slide in to win a challenge. The second goal though is shocking. Their first real attack all game and we manage to leave a player so free in the box is just completely unacceptable. Terrible stuff

Shame as we started the game so well. Our goal was absolutely beautiful from Pogba, Cavani and Fernandes. But any momentum had really fizzled out by the end of the half. Cavani has to be squaring the chance at the end there. Not his first go at it (although he should do better) but the second attempt has to be squared to Pogba in a far better way position.

Very worried about this tie now. Need a big second half.

If we had a proper captain on the field we go in 3 or 4 up. No leadership.
Even now Roma are there for the taking if we get our sh1t together. Its a cup semi for feck sake. Show some urgency.
This is exactly why I feel Maguire is no captain. Has all the ferocity and presence of a mouse with social anxiety.

I know, half of them talk like we have tonnes of options. We don’t. In fact we don’t have a single actual DM other than an ancient legless Matic

Why? Because our defence is vulnerable so you have to protect it. It has shown that time and time again. It's shown it tonight.

They’ll never learn to play the role if they don’t play it. Put McTominay in there and tell him not to get forward. He’ll make mistakes but he’ll learn the role and grow into it. He’ll never learn the discipline of you are telling him to play box to box.
Learn to play? What is Man Utd a finishing school? We spent £50m on Fred. Why did we not use that money on an actual holding player?

McTominay is a trier but United as a club should have someone better. We used to be the benchmark. Until we start trying to live up to that there will be many more nights like this..

He's meant to not have his arm that extended obviously. It's a risk that wasn't needed to be taken. He just had to tackle alongside the Roma player in order to block him
