You're probably right mate as that's about social media clicks and marketing hype rather than what the team actually needs, and we know our board care more about that, I'm sure there'll be a tik tok video announcement to go with the signing.
It's Solskjaer who wants Sancho. FFS.

Sorry, didn't know you were in personal contact with him. ;) If Ole really thinks we need a £70M winger when one or both of McFred are still starting week in and week out then we'll get nowhere fast, adding shiny attacking options to an already good frontline when your midfield is mid table level makes no sense.

Its been widely reported more or less from day one that he is a long term target of Ole.

By lots of sources.

Why exactly? We beat them both this season and Rice is definitely an upgrade on Fred (whose red card against PSG torpedoed our chances of getting into the CL knockout stages).

Beating them is good, and in some of the matches we looked good and made them look silly. Winning titles is different though. The quality those 2 have is far higher than Rice.

Sad? My only reservation is his fee not his ability. I still believe that Bissouma is more attainable at a decent price but Rice would improve us.

I don’t get this PSG/ City admiration. For a side you don’t rate (obviously) we’ve beaten both. Our inconsistency is what lets us down

Yea we did beat them, but we are still far from both. We have done worse than City in every competition I believe.

What DM does Psg have that is far better than Rice? Danilo? Gueye? Herrera?

Rice is not that different from Rodri either. Neither in style or quality. Yes, players like KdB and Gundogan are more talented «ballers» than Rice.

But that dont prevent Pep from putting a high value on types like Fernandinho and Rodri. Type of players we dont have in our squad today.

While that's true, it wasn't the issue in question I believe; which was regarding Rice

That's laughable. In two games against City Rice has palpably demonstrated far more than those 3 who you think are better. Besides the amazing PSG are not odds on to win Ligue 1 despite your belief that are so advanced.

I do not think PSG are so advanced, I am not that impressed by them tbh.

I don’t rate him that highly, but are we being linked with anyone else? Are we even being linked with him?
If it is a choice between him or no DM at all, then let’s go for him.

That's hardly unusual for United, I can think of several players over the years that we were extensively linked with every summer and we never bought them. The other thing to consider is a football teams development is constantly in motion, Cavani wasn't factored in last summer and the progression of Greenwood with more games at RW has had another season to be analysed.

How has a thread about such a basic player we are unlikely to sign garnered 112 pages?

City in for him now.....

Guess my dream summer of Sancho and Rice with Pogba staying won't happen. Just in e I'd wish we'd push on in the market to actually be able to compete on all fronts

So the team second in the league is now considered mid table? Now that makes no sense...

If pool can walk a few leagues with their glamorous midfielders, we should be fine. They actually upgraded and got worse somehow.

The midfield is mid table quality, i mean by that why buy Sancho or Kane etc....i mean the attack has gotten us to second. Liverpool won 1 league title, not a few, and their attack fell short this season, plus Fabinho and Henderson are comfortably better than McFred.

Rice's passing is not a wonder but City don't really need a ball playing CDM since that comes from the rest of the squad more further up the pitch.

Rice is there to provide a freedom for the others to attack, to give them a shape to their core - a bit like Fernandinho does.

Not sure if the rumours are true - but to me it does make sense.

They have Rodri.

I know but if Fernandinho leaves or retires or gets injured then who replaces him in the squad?

City have like 6 top class CB'S in the squad and 6 top class forward/wingers competing with each other on the first 11 or bench - can they rely on just Rodri as their pure CDM if Fernandinho's disappears from their ability to use him?

Again, I'd personally say that we are more likely to get Rice than City are - but just that Rice to City does make sense to me.

Bit surprised Pep would want him, probably a planted story so it can seem like we beat City to another player. That's if we can even afford him! No chance if they get CL you would think.

Interesting that City changed their opinion and would like to extend Fernandinho's contract now. Probably means they don't see any obvious replacements or players they like would cost too much.

Is it in PSGs case? They have Verrati who is undoubtedly one of the best. But their depth in midfield (and their whole squad) is criminal considering how much money they’ve spent. Outside Neymar and Mbappe I feel they are vastly overrated as a team.
