He mistakenly sent the message directly to Aogo instead of another party. His intention was to be racist behind Aogo's back, but his imbecility knows no bounds and he accidentally sent it directly to Aogo.
Wow! Just wow! Surely that's fit for prosecution No?

It seems he wanted to send it to someone else but sent it to Aogo instead. Aogo made it public.
Yeah I've just learnt. That's just so sad. An ex German international too. I mean, the black German players might in the recesses of their minds wonder if they're really accepted, but to see such out in public...beyond the pale.

Yea but it was Lehmanns act, Drogba was just the token black guy.
"Is Dennis a token black guy :) ?"
"Cause I need someone for my new comedy gig! That bastard Drogba quit on me!"

See? Context is everything. PC gone mad again.

wonder who he meant to send it to? Obviously someone where he can get away with chat like that.

His explanation in that Mirror article is ridiculous:

“I've already phoned Dennis and asked him for forgiveness if what I said came over as disrespectful. It was not meant that way at all, it was meant positively. Because he is very knowledgeable and strong in his appearances as a Sky expert. And so he has increased the ratings. That's what I wanted to say, but I expressed it badly.”
Sure ya did... This is from the Fr Ted book of excuses

Sorry I don't think we are seeing it the same way. I was being sarcastic.

I personally don't think so. Generally speaking, insults are punishable in Germany, obviously, but since he had no intention of sending it to Aogo (there's no such thing as negligent insult) and he wanted to send it to a friend in privacy, it's not punishable from my point of view. If he wanted to send it to Aogo or if he adressed it not in privacy, it would be punishable. Like, if I say my neighbour is a fat ugly cnut to my best friend when he visits me in real life or I write him that message, it's obviously not punishable. Privacy matters.

"Schwarzer" just means "black person", as "schwarz" is the color black. Nothing wrong with that alone, that's pretty much your default wording for people of color in German.

It really is the affix "Quoten-" which makes the message bad.
Wouldn't say so. "Schwarzer" as a noun is pretty much equivalent to "a black". And it's not the default wording for people of colour in many social circles, for the right reasons.

What you describe fits when using the word as an adjective, as in "ein schwarzer Fußballer". But that's not what Lehmann did, and the message would still be racist without the "Quoten-" in front.

Yeah ok. Now someone with too much time in his hands and no brain in his head has edited Aogo's wiki entry to a snitch.

I like the fact that these types of transgressions don't go unpunished in Germany anymore and I hope that in the future clubs wo't be allowed to handle these situations the way Schalke did with Tönnies.

At some point I'd like people to question Lothar Matthäus' continued presence in the media though. He has a well-documented history of saying racist stuff and he seems to be given a pass because those statements were made quite some time ago. As far as I know he never apologized or even addressed his problematic words so there's no reason to believe he's changed for the better.

I don't understand how it's possible to send a message to the wrong person on whatsapp. You'd have to be very absent minded/wrecked or have some odd naming conventions in your contacts.
It happens and it's because you have the name of the person you are talking about in your head so you click on them instead of the person you are supposed to send it to.

Also I swear whatsapp sometimes opens a different chat to the one you clicked. People send stuff to the wrong groups/contacts all the time.

He is a covid denying homophob. Not really shocking to discover he also sends racist texts.
It was always obvious that he is a massive idiot so hiring him was a PR disaster waiting to happen.
Without derailing the thread, I went on a date with a German girl a few weeks back. She kept banging on about covid and the masks not working etc. What's going on over there? Sounds nuts.

For what exactly?
Insulting another person, § 185 StGB (a german law which forbids a person to insult another person).

Edit:
As I said before, it's not punishable in that case.

He did not do it publicly nor in an assembly though. He sent him a PM. Accidentally even.

I realise that Lehman comes across as a racist twat here, but the line from there to criminal is and should be a fair bit longer m

Careful. She probably keeps banging on about HIV not being real and condoms not working, too.

I should have edited my post before or shown you my previous post regarding that issue.
And yes, in this case, it's not punishable behavior. Bear in mind that even saying something like that to a friend (not a very close one or a family member) about someone else and it would actually be punishable.

From my experience, people in the Netherlands and Amsterdam were far more anti mask, anti social distancing than in North Carolina. I've heard the same is true of Sweden.

Lunatics. You would laugh at the stuff they seriously believe. There are people who believe the "Bundesrepublik Deutschland" is actually a company founded by the US and all its citizens are employees and you know why? Because our passport is called "Personalausweis" and "personal" also has the same meaning as "human resources" in German. No joke. They also think that the pandemic is a gigantic conspiracy to suppress their human rights and the vaccines will insert a chip to control their minds. Also, we're ruled by lizard people who either live in the center of the globe or in space. They go fully qanon over here. Fortunately it's a relatively small proportion of the civilization, they are only overaveragely loud.

A majority of swedes in a recent survey actually believe that masks are harmful.

This came about because Anders Tegnell argued against the use of masks, saying that they could end up doing more harm than good because people lacking sufficient information could end up believing that they have a stronger effect than they actually do and thus relax other behaviors.

Which is in itself an incredibly patronising anti-educational view, sadly prevalent in the academic ivory towers of health care education.

But I suppose it is kind of vindicated by the fact that a majority of swedes now wrongly understand mask wearing thanks to his statements against it.

Now, there's an interesting character.

About a year ago people were arguing that he'd be proven right eventually, I remember. Still waiting for that to happen, I guess.

I think the Tönnies incident is more serious than this one because it proved he believed in despicable racist stereotypes (the wildly reproducing Africans who only follow the animalistic instincts). Especially in the way he casually dropped this, implying that he didn't even understand what's wrong with it.

This case is a bit different. Many people have a dark sense of humor and the same joke Lehmann made is deemed acceptable in certain contexts, e. g. a TV show like Family Guy. There are lots of people who laugh about stuff like this without being racists. In the end it comes down to context. Did Lehmann intend to discredit Aogo with it, potentially harming his career? And if not, could he be sure that the intended addresse would understand the joke and not allow himself to be influenced in a negative way towards Aogo?

Thing with dark humor is that you should be very cautious not to hurt anybody. In this case, even if you give Lehmann the benefit of the doubt - he's not a racist, it was a joke and he was sure the person at the other end would understand it as such - he definitely lacked this caution so he deserves what's coming for him. Especially in his position he should be much more empathetic.

Lehmann is an arrogant piece of shit who thought just because he has an IQ slightly above the average footballer, he would be above average in other fields as well.

What makes you think his IQ is above the average footballer?
His explanation seems like something someone with a low IQ would come up with. Not to mention the fact that he sent that text to Aogo himself of all people.

I could've believed him if he tried to explain it as silly, mean-sounding but harmless jokes between friends. It's completely normal for those of us who grew up in a household where we showed affection through insults. You don't need to be a neo-Nazi or homophobe to make edgy jokes with friends that know you're not being serious.

But that laughable explanation didn't help him at all.
