Our 3 CLs win record is way, way too low. We should have had at least one more.
It is way too low. That's why it's insane to me that Chelsea could have 2 in a month's time.

We ran into the best club team ever twice when SAF figured out the CL.

We were unlucky vs Leverkusen in 2002(that KO still hurts me). A final vs Real at Hampden park would have been amazing.

That disaster 2nd leg vs Milan in 2007 when I thought we were the best team in the world. The Rafael red card vs Bayern. The offside goal vs Porto.

Just some rotten luck.

That Bayern result in 2010 was pretty annoying back then. Bayern later faced Lyon in the semis which was a pretty easy draw and I believe we would have given Inter a more competitive game than whatever shit LVG's Bayern did.

I don't have regrets about losing 2011 final, we were schooled by a far better team plain and simple, but 2009 was a shame. Pretty bad luck that Barca's golden generation rose just one year after our 2008 win.

Oh well.

We were. We had an absolute nightmare in that game and IIRC we were missing both Rio and Vidic. 9/10 times we would've managed not to lose there and cruise to the final.

And don't forget the Nani red card vs. Real. We got robbed. We had a great chance of winning the CL that year.

It's not really a mad strategy though, in many cases It's just common sense. Romanticism when it comes to managers can be dangerous and lead to years of wasted potential. Obviously there are managers that have earned more time than others but if it's not working more time isn't going to magically fix things.
Sure but it's mad cos you won't see many other teams pulling it off or being able to pull it off given the payments that the sacked managers would get

Hiddink was interim manager in for Scolari in the 08-09 Ovrebo semi - but he was always a short term appointment.
Haha all your managers are short term :p
But yeah I get what you're saying.

We've been a bit shafted here fixture wise.

City get an extra days rest for the game this weekend (Ok fair enough with CL commitments). But the Utd postponement has a double negative effect:

A) United only get two days rest before playing Liverpool who get five days in a game we need Utd to win
B) Leicester now also get an extra days rest for the FA Cup Final as the Utd fixture has been moved a day earlier

I hope this won't make a difference but i fear it will

EDIT - In fact it's worse because Utd only have two days to prepare for Leicester as well. So two of our rivals for top four get to play a Utd side who have 3 games in 5 days!

Maddening honestly. This popped into my head earlier.

Literally the 2nd worst final possible as a United fan.

All our history and great teams, but they'd just be 1 behind in CL titles won if they beat City.
We are not great in Europe as a football club. We need to be in one of our great spells to win it or reach finals. Chelsea reach finals even when they're having patchy years. Like this year when they reach the final and we someone drop down to the bloody Europa. Or under Matteo. Couldn't see us reach a final under any of our managers since 13 and they did under Di Matteo.

To be honest, them reaching the final in 2012 is one of the biggest flukes in football history. They were completely battered by Barcelona in both legs and divine right got them through.

Probably some balance evening out after they were robbed by Ovrebo vs Barcelona in 2009.

I think we will have to heavily rotate vs Arsenal and pray.

They always have enough good players for these incredible runs to occur, and they're constantly signing enough good players above the head of managers that they don't need to "waste" years in transition. With Utd obviously the approach to squad building is more traditional and CL Finals have tended to feel like the point of crescendo after a period of gradual overall progress. Neither of these explain Liverpool's fluke or all flukes in 05

Don't see the fixture list as that tough. We are playing in London 3 games in a row after City on Saturday, easier for the players to stay in home environment even if one game is at Wembley. Leicester have to travel down. We have a bigger squad than Leicester and will be able to rotate more before and after the cup final and for the league game.

The really difficult game is away at the Etihad this Saturday with City having had the extra day. At least we got few players subbed off before 90 mins yesterday. Hopefully Kova back fit soon. Tuchel got some tough decisions with rotation coming up.

I think we have enough depth to cope, especially up top AND if Kovacic returns. I'm more concerned about the effect of Utd gifting points to our rivals for top 4.

An FA Cup final, a CL final and top 4.

They're in a really good place.

Hopefully it all falls apart and they lose both finals and fall out of top four.

Otherwise top 4 -
City - Prem Winners
Chelsea - CL Winners
United - EL Winners
Leicester - FA Cup Winners

We could end up as CL and FA Cup winners and finish top 4... Or we could win nothing and miss out on CL, the next 6 games are all cup finals!

Ferguson.
Also a bit of bad luck having to face arguably the greatest club side ever and greatest footballer ever in two finals. But yeah we could have done better in Europe. Although I'm more interested in the progress in the league

"Mummy, I can't beat the other boys. They're too big and strong"

You do realise we've been hearing that same excuse for decades and it raises nothing but laughs. 25 years that man was in charge for at Utd. 25 fecking years.

Is 25 years supposed to be a bad thing or a good thing? If you'd met that team in all your finals you'd have 0 European cups btw.

2 CLs and 2 finals in two decades is decent. If we had that ratio throughout we'd have loads of ECs. You have to understand (probably beyond your comprehension abilities) that Sir Alex managed us through thick and thin, built us from ground up through transitional phases etc So a lot of years are spent in developing the club. Unlike say a Pep who just moved to the next club when he can't hack it anymore (see end of Barca, Bayern etc). Or just spends 500 million to get it done at City.

The cap in hand routine again? Poor old Utd.

If Chelsea finish 4th, they’ve had a much better season than us. I can’t get my head around the fact I feel we’re a much better side than them yet they somehow end up in two high profile cup finals. I think they’ll win the FA Cup but City will beat them in the CL.

They have had unbelievable luck with the cup draws this season even to the point of playing a less than average Real in the semis.

30 years no league title for a club that think it is a big club. 30 fecking years.

Ferguson should have sent Utd out of sight in Europe among English clubs like Paisley did with us.
Blimey, you're going back a bit aren't you. They had cigarette breaks back then didn't they? It was barely football.

If we had Ferguson we'd have a lot more league titles. But we had joker managers throughout. Did you have a joker manager in Europe for 25 years?

We could all play the IF game. You've completely contradicted yourself there too. Fergie would have won you titles but he's a joker because we didn't do great in Europe?

You’ve been signed up to a United forum as a Liverpool fan for nearly 20 years and have seen Liverpool win 1 league title. No wonder you’re bitter about Fergie, how sad.

Anything anti-Dipper
One thing that is concerning about this CL run by Chelsea is the finances it is giving to them. The Russian isn't exactly a owner who wants the money to fund his asset like Yank owners. I see them using this to add to their already allotted transfer kitty.

Imagine flexing on a guy (for apparently mistranslated comments) who has won practically everything in football. Sit down, Mount. You'll lose the final anyway.
