That reminded me of Rafael! Although with Rafael it was a bit funny, he was small and unintimidating looking, but always got into stuff like this

The commentator said "Cavani did not need to get involved" and I openly said "He saw his 19 year old teammate being ganged up on by 2 blokes. He absolutely did need to get involved."

That yellow card probably brought him a hell of a lot of respect in Greenwoods eyes.
Me too. That’s how a senior should do for the youngsters.

Greenwood is the poor guy in school where u step up to to help him and when u get queried in the disciplinary committee and he didn't turn up to back you up.

It was absolutely unnecessary and foolish. Nothing to be gained from it; but risks a red if he just touches somebody a bit too high and them misses the final.

Very silly.
Come on guy, this isn't Football manager. These things don't happen in a vacuum, that's what you'd do for your teammate, that's what you'd want your teammate to do for you.

Something comical about Bruno holding back four Roma lads and somehow succeeding.

Loved to see Cavani stepping up like that. Absolutely made for United this guy. Crying shame we didn't get him 6 or 7 years ago.

He’s a total winner like Bruno. We still have too many highlights players for my liking. Gotta fight for everything and I don’t see the rest of our forwards busting a gut working for each other or even trying to find each other. We are 1 dimensional without him.
Perfect post. I can add or subtract nothing.

I love this. A bit of the United of old. But let’s be realistic here, it’s better to just walk away. Modern football is different now, a slight touch can be very dangerous according to VAR.

I did like how Cavani quickly got involved to back up Greenwood. Clearly likes the kid and wasn't gonna let him get had by the Roma players. Reminder of the good old days when a United player never went into a ruck alone.
This just reminded me of Robin van Persie. The only man to have almost gotten killed on a football pitch only to rush into a physical altercation right after :D
I can't remember which game it was but he was again in a fight vs an opposition player and Vidic came out all the way from the back, right into the crowd and got him out of there. Oh, and also Steven Gerrard and the PL medal one.

Older Utd., players have always defended the younger players when they were being targeted by older players. However, there was one exception as I remember many years ago. A young David Pegg was getting kicked from pillar to post by a certain defender, until a young Duncan Edwards changed placed with him, the defender tried the same with Duncan, it was like running into a brick wall, the defender crumpled on the gound whilst the young Duncan strode forward with the ball. After that the defender was as we say now never in the game.
I love it. Thanks for sharing.

Also, best moment in the match when Cavani did this. Thats what I like to see.

Cavani is a model United player, it's going to be hard to replace his influence and determination.

What a man!
So happy he’s reportedly staying one more year, hopefully with fans in the stands.

We all love United
He ran back to his original right wing position and re-organised while Cavani picked up the pieces

Would have love to see him square the Roma players with Edinson together

It's always good to see and take nothing away from Cavani's response, but it should be a bare minimum of any team mate, really. It's sad to see when players, particularly young players, get isolated by a couple of opposition players and they don't get backed up.

For all his faults when he was here, Lingard was always a good bet for getting getting involved. I remember the season when Rashford broke through, Lingard was always close by and immediately put himself between Rashford and anyone trying to get at him. Senior players should always be stepping in.

If he stays imagine the reception he'll get next season from OT crowd?
It's one of the only negatives of his year, that he hasn't been able to experience Old Trafford. Personally I love the guy, he is exactly the kind of player that United should be going after. I hope he stays. I honestly can't understand how PSG benched him, they must have some seriously good strikers if they were willing to let this guy rot on the bench.

Cavani true United player.
I'm old enough to remember Noel Cantwell sticking up for our youngsters when he was our skipper. Noel would wait until the fuss died down and then run past and whisper in the ear of the opposition offender. That usually was enough...ask Dave Mackay of Spurs! If it wasn't Noel would wait sometimes up to 30 minutes, then repeat the advice, physically... of course no way would he get away with it today with cameras and VAR, but he protected our young!

Great to see this sort of thing. Cavani gets better every week and I love the guy more every match.

Also, why the feck did the ref split up the original fracas, then when Cavani comes in he just steps back and lets the situation escalate. Then when he’s calling Cavani over he sounds like he’s playing Kabaddi!

Always great to see. Lingard used to do it a lot for Rashford and I remember Zlatan doing it as other recent examples.
Used to love it when some player would try and step up and Zlatan would get involved and give them a bit back whilst smirking. Best thing is he's a taekwondo black belt and knows that he would absolutely wipe the floor with them.

same here, was amazed a few others didn’t come steaming in also.

Cavani is clearly really enjoying his role right now.

Yeah, bossing it in more ways than one. We dont see this kind of solidarity from our players anywhere near as much as we used to. I was disapointed that none of the english players came over to support him, although they were mostly defenders in fairness.

Loved it. Exactly the sort of mentality we need from our players. Really want to see another season of him.

This got me thinking. Who actually are the ‘hard men’ at Utd now?
Maguire ?
Mctomminy ?
Bailey ?
Struggling to be honest

that 94 team comes to mind when things like this happen
‘You want to play ? Let’s play
You want to fight ? Let’s fight ‘
great times
None of the English players in United got this type of temper. I guess it’s Cavani, Fred, Bruno that has most cojones in the squad. McTom and Pogba sometimes too.

But I would like to see less sulking and more passion by likes of Rashford, Martial, Maguire, Shaw, AWB and more.

Beautiful to see. I don't know whether it's conformation bias clouding my judgement but in our worst days post-Fergie I don't think this basic kind of team spirit stuff has been happening. Yes you could argue it's handbags that players don't need to involve themselves in but for me sticking up for your teammates on a basic level is part and parcel of every level of football. Well done Edi
Herrera used to get involved like that a lot to be fair to him

I probably should be ashamed to confess that one of most gratifying moments as a fan was that elbow to Mings' skull.

I liked that last night, I like his mentality. It’s been quite evident since day one with his pressing and work rate he’s a lot tougher than the rest of our forwards.

He’s proper menacing, get the feeling he could really handle himself. I’d have him up there in the tier just below the likes of Big Dunc, Keano and Scholesy for hardest PL players of all time.

We were fortunate the ref had a bit of common sense because on another day the two Roma lads and Cavani could have seen red.
