Who here wants us to beat Leicester?

I don't want us to lose but I do want us to put the reserves out and save the first team for Liverpool on Thursday.

It's not even that I don't want Liverpool to finish 4th either. I don't think its possible to play 3 games in 5 days and be competitive in all of them, so the most practical thing to do is eliminate the least important one, put out a second string for it and hope they can spring a surprise.

We needed to beat Villa to make sure top 4 was secure. Liverpool is a big game regardless and probably the more dangerous of the three games given Leicester's form. Leicester is the game sandwidged between the two so the most difficult to prepare for, and also the least likely to have any bearing on our season seeing as them and Chelsea have to play each other yet anyway.

Also, I don't want Liverpool to finish 4th.

Worrying about City is a bit meaningless at this point. They will win one of their games and its not possible to expect a team in the middle of May to win 3 games in 5 days, all against teams who've competed for the top 4 all season. Even if we win 2 of them it would be impressive in itself.

Up until City lost, I wanted to play the youth against Leicester to feck over Liverpool, but City lost, and we're Man Utd, we play until the 98th minute.
Yes. This is my thought too. I have a feeling they are going to wilt, if we win the next two matches then it's pressure on them when they least expected it.

bizarre post - and I really don’t understand what you are on about.

we have it in our control over the next two games to prevent City from winning the title until they play next - therefore we should be going all out to win. That’s pretty straight forward.
I get that you want to keep the pressure on City by winning both games. But expecting us to beat two top PL sides within the space of two days at the tail end of a gruelling season - both of which share the added incentive of fighting for a CL place, whereas we have nothing to play for besides pride - is a huge ask.

Would it not be wiser on our part to rest a tonne of first-team players in the first game, then going all out in the next one? Also, it would be silly risking a squad-wide burnout before we play the EL final.

i absolutely agree we should rest players for the greater good, but there’s resting players and not even trying to win. It’s a balance.

I also don’t expect is to beat both teams given the circumstances - but whatever team we put out I want is to try as hard as possible to try and do so.

First 11 players will be rested, cant imagine Ole making 9/10 changes I've read in some places but perhaps 5/6.

Utd never get an 'easy ride whoever we play, it's always their cup final, so neither should we. But even after our best effort, if we don't succeed let's just say I won't be as upset as I normally am after a loss ;)

We need to rotate a bit so I hope whoever we put out can get the job done. But these two games will be asking a lot of the players with how close they are so we obviously won't get very much from them if we play the same team in both of them.

we obviously want to win but with this insane schedule he must rotate the squad and bring in a new group of players for this match

the more important game is the one against the bindippers and getting a result against them to hopefully keep them out of the top 4

Wake up people. There's no real choice involved. You can't play someone for 90 minutes and then play him again for another 90 minutes two days later.

If there's anyone in the starting lineup tomorrow who started yesterday, then it's someone who either got subbed off yesterday, or is going to have to get subbed off not too late on Tuesday. And if you push the envelope on anyone, that someone is a surefire non-available for Liverpool on Thursday.

I say pure second string, get whatever we can get, then full tilt against Liverpool. Much better than half dead & half decent both tomorrow and Thursday.

It would be a bit delightful to see Liverpool out of the top four after the outpouring of pent up emotion last year. Greatest team ever my arse. Blighted by injury this year? Yes. Able to adapt and find other solutions? NOPE.

So wouldn't mind losing to Leicester just to see the scousers boil for a bit more. Most likely, Leicester will soil themselves in the run in and give it away... but hell I'd like to Liverpool sweat!

This is too easy choice. With us nothing to lose, and a potential 50m loss to Liverpool by missing CL spot? That 50m could buy a decent player for them next season.

hmmm..
Its a real dilemma for your manager to be honest.

OK I agree that it’s unlikely that you are going to catch City but its still a realistic possibility that Chelsea can catch you for second loose to Leicester and Liverpool and yep it’s as SAF would say SB time.

Does it make a difference finishing second or third ? Well there is a little matter of £3 million Premier League prize money alongside 10% more from UEFA in respect of CL solidarity payment again worth several million

Don't give a feck honestly. Play the best 11 against Liverpool, as far as I am concerned, in all other games rest everybody. I don't want to see someone else getting injured like Maguire

As others have said definitely not wanting us to lose but I would definitely want us to rest up to 13 players or so. Not sure if Ole will do that or not.

Couldnt care less about Liverpool, want us finishing as close to city as possible.
Definitely. Manchester United supporters should always want their team to at least try and win every game. Not at all concerned about anyone else.

There’s no serious debate on this point. Rest the players for Leicester who you need to start against Liverpool. It’s really that simple. Dropped points on Tuesday to give you a chance of winning three points on Thursday...a no-brainer.

I'd rather us beat the Foxes, secure 2nd place, lose to Liverpool if need be and then get a point or 3 against Fulham and then win Europe.

Let this old man humble you all with his wisdom:

I believe we can win against BOTH Leicester and Liverpool, even if we meet Leicester with our 2nd string players. It's the likes of Fulham and Wolverhampton that feel more like a banana skin to me. We have been like that this season.

I'd like us to beat both Leicester and Liverpool, who wouldn't? To be able to do that we have to field a weakened team tomorrow and a strong team on Thursday. Simple really.

I’d like to see us field a young side fleshed out with second XI players and for them to give a good account of themselves. Then the result doesn’t really matter to me.

Worst-case scenario for me is Ole tries to go with a “half and half” side, so we ended up not winning the game and not really being able to rest players either.

Leicester: 0-1 deliberate own goal by henderson in injury time and camera pans to ole and fergie laughing at the final whistle.
Dippers: 1-0 bruno goes down and gets a penalty in extra time in injury time and puts one away.

Surely you’d want us to beat Liverpool and then beat Leicester?

Yeah sorry, same point though.
Well the issue is we just played on Sunday, then Leicester Tuesday, then Pool Sunday.

If we play our strongest again tomorrow they're going to be absolutely knackered for Thursday.

In our situation it's better for Leicester to win, help them get top 4 and beat Liverpool to stop them getting top 4.

It might sound petty, but if they don't get Cl money that could be the difference between them getting Sancho in the summer and kicking on for the title, or having to sell Mane/Salah to cover the costs ec.

Obviously I want us to win every game , but I will not be too upset if we drop pts to Leciester , but I will be fuming if we lose to Liverpool.

Liverpool is by far the most important of the two games midweek.

An the way Leicester are currently in free fall again like last season we will more than likely beat them or least get something out of that match even if it is our 2nd string out.

I'd like us to win against Leicester. After our performance against Roma in the second leg I never want to see such a half-hearted United performance in my life.

I want us to win but we need to field our B-team. Then we need to win against Pool with our A-Team

Knowing our lack we'll probably thrash Leicester with a 2nd string team side consisting of the u10s and Solskjaer up front, only to lose to Liverpool with a full strength lineup.

I want us to win 5-3 with Iheanacho scoring a hattrick.

Then I want a 90th minute winner vs Pool and Gaz to kiss his "badge" in front of Carragher.

I want us to win, but if we lose it'll be nice to know that it denies Pool top 4. I don't wanna be like them - where they became more obsessed with our results even when they were doing well.
