In the first half he tried to be a bit more brave, make passes, try out some skills. Not all of it came off but it's a lot better than recently where he'd just pass it to the nearest man. He's not at the level we need right now but at least he's attempting things, will hopefully get better with more games.

I originally thought he was useless but I think it's a mix of a mentality issue + coaching with him currently, he has ability.

I’ve not been overly critical of the guy so far, but if he’s unable to step up and take some authority in a game like today, I doubt he ever will. Just don’t think he’s a Manchester United player.

This game was entirely useless for pretty much everything, apart from just hoping we see something from him. There's just nothing there. You want to poke him with a stick in the hopes he does something but he's just such an irrelevant player for us.

In the right system, he can be decent I'm sure. Just don't see it at United and probably not the prem tbh.

I feel like I have to say this anytime Matic plays and his partners get stick: Matic isn’t a partner. He sits in the defence. It’s like playing against 2/3 opposition midfielders alone. Matic was better than usual today but he’s not mobile or aggressive enough to cover for and supply someone like Donny or Pogba

Useless as always. He is so happy to defer and looks so meek every time he is on the pitch. I was fuming when DDG made a save in the second half, he had the chance to clear it, moved out of the way and let the defender deal with it with two Leicester players marking him. That just sums him up.

Many said at the time we didn’t understand the transfer. Even now I can’t understand why he was bought. He was never needed for our squad and that has shown. Just think if we hadn’t spent 40m euros on him could we have got Sancho over the line? That’s how daft that decision was.

I won't criticize him after this game. There is a decent player there, low on confidence and never really got a chance to settle in any position.
Overall he can be a good midfielder I think, although not impressed so far.

Needs to start taking chances and turning on the ball. Too safe. Even Matic was turning and trying to play a forward pass. VDB kept passing it back.

You said he offers nothing though. He's certainly more capable than the midield we seen today anyway. Maybe he could be upgraded but it's not as "United standard" midfielders grow on trees.

Don't dislike the guy but thought he was far too cagey. Saying he's not had many chances or new league etc is no excuse... he's not 17.

They aren’t even remotely similar for a start :lol:

Fred has been very good for us this season. Whether or not he should be starting for a ‘top class’ United is another thing.
