That was hopefully his last minutes in a United-shirt. Such a fecking pointless player.
You've already criticised him in his actual performance thread. Why the hell would you go out of your way to bump the one with his mother's death writ large in the title to have another go at him?

What a stupid comment. Obviously nearing the end of his career but was playing well earlier in the season. Has hardly played this year so can't be match fit, and was a ridiculous choice to start in a high profile game. If you think he has been a pointless player, you need your eyes - and your head - checked.

Of all the threads you could possibly have picked to slag off Mata's performance, you picked the absolute classless one to do it in.

Mistaked this for the performance thread, didn't check the whole title.

He is a nothing-player these days, and has been for years. Go get yourself a scan, hopefully they'll find some signs of brain activity. Seems doubtful, though.

Funny that. I usually find that people who can't discuss without being abusive are the ones lacking brain activity. Or it could just be ignorance.

Fact - Mata played very well earlier in the season. From that he went straight into a period of not playing for several months. I wouldn't judge any player based on that.

It was a pleasure to see him play here one last time. I was never enamoured with his signing as we didn't need a no10 at the time (more so as now we needed a DM), but I was always pleased with how he carried himself and repped the club.

Farewell to the little magician as he hopefully won't be here next season.

Who started with need to get your "head checked" for saying Mata is a pointless player, and I'm being the abusive one? L o l

That's true - though I did say 'if you think...' so there were options. You just waded in. But nevertheless, I apologise. Though I think you're being unfair. (To Mata, not to me)

I'd like to see him stay as staff. Great role model and ambassador.

I think that was one of the last times we will see him play for us and Bruno will inherit his No.8 next season.

You mean return as staff after a few years?

As much as I love him, I think he still has it in him to play a few more years in a slower league, Italy maybe, and be a success. He clearly has the intelligence, and I think had he been playing competitive games more regularly, the poor touches wouldn't have happened. But there were far too many moments where he was a second or two late. Those things are costly in PL, but may not be as costly in Serie A or any other lower intensity league

Well maybe after a year or two, depending on whether he wants to continue playing I suppose. Ole has made a point of saying how important he - and Matic - have been in the dressing room. I'd certainly like to see him being used as an ambassador for the club

For his own sake he must want to leave and play somewhere else, he’s a nice guy and always tried his best but his career peaked before he even got here.

Didn’t play well tonight but given lack of playing time that was inevitable.

I don't think his career had peaked - but I do think he's been misused for most of his time here. It's not just Mata though. How many players come here having been brilliant and then dont live up to expectations? We have a history of using players out of position, or playing them in different positions from one week to the next. Mata is a left footed central midfielder, but how many times was he used on the right? I fully expected him to be in goal at some point. I hope Bruno has broken that particular trend, as he has been awesome. And Pogba has been a disappointment until this season, likewise Shaw - not always the players' faults imo.
