Can someone enlighten me?

Shite news, she was doing a fantastic job. Heard her speak to people about her career early last year and she was inspirational. We will really struggle to replace her.

I guarantee she’s been offered a better/more lucrative role somewhere else. Nothing wrong with taking a new role for more money.

think they have been training at Leigh Sports Village most of the season
This is correct. There was one week when it was snowing that the women trained at Carrington and in the last month or two, they've been at Carrington.

There had been a lot of talk about using The Cliff but they haven't been training there. I don't know if it is being renovated at the moment, or if that was a plan that hasn't happened yet.

It felt like Casey Stoney held the women's team together. She chose the players, the style of play, etc. It was more like a Wenger or Ferguson situation than the vast majority of managers, who have to adapt somewhat to the situation they inherited.

I wouldn't be surprised if Casey is completely exhausted after this Covid season.

I thought they trained at the Cliff?
from what I’ve seen on social media, they did initially, then moved to Leigh and stayed there. Thats going from memory so I could be wrong.

The below is from the Leigh Sports Village website

Manchester United Women’s team, play all their home games in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League at Leigh Sports Village
Manchester United Women, who are also based at Leigh Sports Village full time using our world class training facilities, are managed by former England captain Casey Stoney. She built a strong squad from nothing to compete in the FA Women’s Championship for the 2018/19 season and they were promoted to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League at the very first attempt, winning the FA Women’s Championship in fine style

If it was down to something that could have been sorted out like the training conditions, then that is shameful. Thanks for everything, Stoney.

She'll be a huge loss in a summer that will likely have been full of upheaval anyway with James, Heath and Press probably leaving.

She does say in the article she's taking some time out. We'll see whether that is a Mourinho break or a Guardiola break.

Welcome to Manchester reception committee
Well damn - that's not the recruitment news I was hoping to hear from the women's team.

If it a reflection about the club leaving the team in limbo - not renovating the Cliff as promised; not expanding Carrington to accommodate them as suggested - then that's even worse news, because it means the club lied to her as well as to us. I suspect it's been a tough year for her, and having no base for the squad (just the facilities they share at LSV) has probably made it feel worse.

All the best to her though, she's set us on the path. Now it's a test of United's commitment again.

Absolutely shameful by the 'biggest football club in the world'. Look at the stadium City's women team play in compared to United's. It says everything.

It's a massive shame that she has resigned. Tobin Heath was saying that one of the reasons she signed for United was because of Stoney. We'll struggle to find a better manager to come in.

Suppose we shouldn't be surprised if training facilities for the women's team are below par or they're not being shown due consideration. Whatever else you might say about the Glazers, they're consistent.

This makes me so angry. This was needless and highly preventable. Just when we look like we were building something and knocking on the door of the CL. The club is a disgrace and should be ashamed of itself

She probably asked for an upgrade to facilities and the Glazers pulled up the financial statement on how much money the women's team was bringing in.

If that was the case they should have looked at how much money they could potentially be bringing in in the future given that it looks like women's football is set for big growth.

Hard to see where the women team goes from here. Can't imagine a better manager than Stoney is attainable. The other side of the coin is hopefully this adds to pressure on the Glazer mafia.

That's a huge blow, she's done an unbelievable job and just the strong manager we needed. Really thought she'd be here for a while, if it was down to the lack of investment then that's a damn shame. I can also see her being a very sought after coach. Hopefully we can carry on but I kind of doubt it, looking at the table there's quite a gap to fifth place, she had us very close to the top three in fourth and just missed out by a point for CL qualification. I think we'll be firmly in the midpack rather than right up there with the established 3 teams next season.

A lot of the players came specifically because of Casey. Now she's left because of the training setup, I think it's in trouble.

Just as a reminder to those saying that Joel Glazer's statement last week had concrete promises by which he could be judged that when the women's team was set up it was announced that they would train at the Cliff once it had been renovated. 3 years on and the team still doesn't have a permanent base for training, they were at LSV for much of the year and had a load of injuries picked up in training which have probably cost them top 3 and are now at Carrington working around the men's training times.

Her resignation is just another sign of the negligence of those who run the club, it's gutting because the rise of the women's team was one of the positive stories at the club and Casey was a brilliant leader for that team.

Biggest club in the world can't fix the stadium roof that was an embarrassment, to the country, when it was leaking on spectators during the 2012 Olympic football tournament.

Biggest club in the world can't deliver on commitments made in 2018 to renovate the cliff.

Biggest club in the world sends its women and U23s to Leigh Sports village to play.

Biggest club in the world spends just over £100m on infrastructure in over a dozen years.

Does this really feel like the behaviour of the biggest club in the world?

Oh well at least the Glazers get to pay themselves dividends, even in the middle of a global, once in a century pandemic, as well as management fees for their fantastic stewardship of the club!
