If a plastic club wins the league then surely it is worth posting about.

Yes, I do think City (and PSG) represent the worst parts of modern day football, irrespective of any club loyalties.

Does this bother me? Yes, because I care about football not just being about who has a bottomless pit of money being thrown around by despots.

The Liverpool win was hard to take, but at least I could congratulate and respect their club. With City, I'm afraid the club doesn't deserve that respect. It is a hollow shell of the great club they used to be and has become the worst example of everything older City fans used to rile against.
So you do care and the apathy is fake. Understood.

You've had a Leicester fan, United fans and a Liverpool fan on the last page say it doesn't matter. Go on Reddit or whatever social media site and get a gauge. City winning the title is always the preferred option to your actual rivals winning it for pretty much anyone. They're a lot of people's second team because they're essentially financially guaranteed league titles so there's not the same sense of achievement or jeopardy as you're rivals winning it.

Just because you don't feel that way doesn't mean it's not the broad sentiment.

And again, I don't expect City fans to care about that sentiment but it is what it is.
The fact they have to write posts about it says they care. I mean I don't care bout prince Harry, so I don't make posts bout him saying I don't care. If its worth your time to constantly type it out it shows you care.

Truth is it's the only stick people have left to try and beat City with. We're now a better run club off the pitch and better team on it.

It is obviously true. People hardly care if City win, so they are hardly upset.
It‘s not the same with United or Liverpool.
Liverpool fans hate it if United win, they would prefer City.
City fans obviously prefer Liverpool winning instead of United.
Whereas United fans always prefer City winning a title instead of Liverpool.
Hell even most Chelsea fans would rather City winning stuff than United.
City are almost everyone‘s 2nd team, like Dortmund.

Well if it is a thread on redcafe of course United fans will get involved. But it’s not like we make the effort to register on bluemoon and post there what we think about City.

Yep we care but don't care that you don't care! It's become the norm for others to disregard the wins but true football fans know that most title wins are bought. As underwhelming as it is to others, we are in heaven with the trophies and style of football never seen before, it just fits a lazy narrative to state nobody cares, I didn't care that Liverpool won it last season but it hurt.
No Liverpool winning was a genuine sporting achievement. That hurt.

This.... Well done I suppose.

I'm not really referring to the occasional poster in here, I'm on about the ones with similar number of posts to me and more about city than United.

Well yeah fair enough, I enter other teams’ threads on redcafe maybe once a week. I then go on to reply to some absolute crap being posted by some oppos (not you) and then I am done with these threads for a while. Really not interested much in them.

City are still under investigation by the PL for breaching FFP. Now before the City fans jump in, it matters not a jot whether FFP fair or not, they are the rules. If I drive at 100 mph, I get banned. I don’t agree with the rule/law but that is how it is. City were found guilty of breaching FFP and were let off because UEFA (conveniently) broke its own rules by not charging them early enough. Still guilty, still got a fine which would mean nothing to them. No doubt the PL will cock it up and City will get away with it, again. Add on some dubious decisions by many refs such as LaPorte staying on the field in the CL semi and Raheems assault on the Chelsea player last week, and it’s another tainted trophy for the bitters no matter how you sugar coat it.

Well no. I care about football and City winning the league is a topic in football whereas I imagine you don't care about the Royal sideshow whatsoever.

Believe me if you like or don't believe me but it won't change the fact that I'm really not upset by your success.
Liverpool's success on the other hand really hurt. Why didn't I just come out and say I didn't care last year? Maybe it's because I'm telling the truth.

If you mean fans that are unable to comprehend basic statistics then you are absolutely correct. If you look at the statistics though you would see that only 3 clubs have bought the PL. Blackburn, Chelsea & City have all done it with each club vastly outspending their predecessor.
Eh. When Abramovich came in, Chelsea spent £153m NET in the very first season in 2003. This was at a time when United's net spend did not exceed £30m in any single season, never mind Arsenal's. It took United more than a decade to crack the £100m net spend mark.

City's spending was consistently higher, but it took them 9 years after takeover to crack Chelsea's single season spending record and at that point both United and Chelsea were already spending in the £80-100m region themselves, making the difference much smaller, from more than 5x to barely double.

Chelsea's adjusted spending between 2003-2008 is higher than City's adjusted spending between 2008-2013 and the same goes for 2003-2013 vs 2008-2018, respectively.

The celebrations at stadium last night epitomise modern city. managed to do it without breaching covid restrictions. Its all in the pictures, the success, the great branding and the utter boredom of the fans present and not present. This is what soulless success looks like

You're a bit bold coming on a United forum to congratulate City.

Not good form really and you know you were wumming!
I was genuinely congratulating them.

The comment about me rather seeing them win it than United was a bit cheeky but don't hate me for being honest. You'd rather they win things than us right?

The players and Pep don't deserve this kind of success. Can you imagine if this had been a United team or other historic PL teams winning it in this method, the celebrations will be wild, the players would have felt they have done something special.

For the City players, they probably feel like robots, 20 fans celebrating.

I cannot wait for United to win the league again, we will show them what real atmosphere is.

Don't know why you are bringing Utd & Arsenal into it. My point was that 3 teams have bought the league & they have all in turn outspent each other. City aare currently the highest spenders in the PL era.

Because I felt like it. Leicester have spent more than Blackburn on their Premier League winning squad. Would you say they vastly outspend Walker's Blackburn? Chelsea's spending in relation to the rest of the league at the time was higher than City's spending in relation to the rest of the league at the time. That's all.

My point on spending stands. Blackburn, Chelsea & City won their titles by outspending the opposition.

I should have qualified my post though slightly. Blackburn, Chelsea & City bought the league as they required outside investment to do it. You can't win the league without spending money. Most clubs can't spend the money unless they've earned it.

Oh yeah, totally. I'm not disputing that point. Just got hung up on the bit about progressively outspending each other.

3 titles in 4 years, great achievement.

I must admit i thought they would struggle to make top 4 when they had that abysmal start to the season. But another league title and a CL final, hats off to them.

I used to. Now I think the ownership model they have is a real threat to the game, and I would rather that teams that are either fan-owned, or that run like actual businesses, rather than state-owned propped up entities, succeed.

Football tribalism is a fun part of the game and Liverpool fans are especially funny when their team is going through a bad season, but some things are more important.

Interesting take but I don’t think FSG are necessarily any better for the game than City’s owners are. The recent Super League debacle shows that.

They run us within our means but they’re far from perfect.

When United lost to Leicester Sky switched to the Etihad Stadium to see City fans celebrating. There were barely half-a-dozen supporters there and they looked disinterested. The blues supporters passion is inspiring.

yeah cause I'm going to wander down to the Etihad on the half chance United lose just so if they do I can be on Teevee, and tbh why the feck would I want to go and stand outside the Etihad with a bunch of randoms in the middle of a pandemic, yeah we don't have the support of Liverpool or United we get that, but even most United fans who have City fans knew the ones who were going to games in the old 3rd division when we were totally shite, in my experience most fans who go on about passion and number of supporters etc aren't even match going fans themselves.
