The pair of them combined almost make one good midfielder.

They were shocking but so glad the rest of the team performed so well. Don't care who we buy, we would lose that game today. Fred and Scott were shite but no one was any better....

Just put Pogba in midfield, could it be any worse? We concede a tonne of goals anyway.
We don't concede a tonne of goals. We conceded a lot today without our best CB.

I would put Pogba in midfield IF we get the CDM we need. Until then we need two hard working snappy players and we have no one else.

We've done very well with this pair as first choice midfield.

Probably the big question is who we upgrade on first.
Its got to be MCT. He’s fairly average. if we could go out and buy Camavinga or Bellingham then majorly go for it. Someone like tonali neves or rice to sit dictate and mop up in tight games? Definitely, it would be great for us. I hope we go for the top shelf players because it’s the hardest position but are we really going to go out and spend 100 million on the midfield?

They’re there to protect the defence apparently. They sure as shit aren’t there to help us score goals.

I'd sell neither. Both are good and we need depth but we need one top calibre player and one of these on bench

Fred should either be sold over the summer or become a sub that only plays against lower sides or cup games, that's exactly his level, the team cannot sustain having a player who has a brainfart every now and then.

I think Scott offers more than Fred, and he at least counts towards the homegrown players quota. Can play CB, and clearly performs better when he is allowed to play a more box-to-box role.

Stick Rice next to McTominay and you have a solid foundation. I honestly have no idea who you would need to put next to Fred in order to get some sort of functional midfield.

Fred is good as a squad player. Not good enough to be in the starting team.

That's what you believe they should be, not what they are. I think we have done more than ok this season based on that. If people are talking about the next level and whether they are good enough, probably not but start with looking at the owners, managers and coaching staff also...

We HAVE to sign a midfielder this summer. Absolutely imperative - can’t be having these two as our first choice pair and expect to challenge for the league.

Whether that’s an out and out CDM or someone who can dictate a game/can pick a pass and doesn’t shit their pants when pressed, unlike these two jokers.

I refuse to believe that one of them with Pogba or even giving a run of games for Matic and VdB as the two would have been worse... They don’t protect - constantly out of position and their passing, unless it’s back to the keeper or a 5 yard sideways ball is pathetic.

To continue playing midfield matches where we seek not to impose and control games, but to be defensively resilient and see out attacks? Not really how I want to see us play football.

You must be joking, McT shouldn’t be in the squad let alone be considered for the first team. He’s genuine embarrassment of the midfielder. Cant control the ball, pass and poor positionally.

From Reddit. Fred is nearly as productive as McT and Rice combined. Get a better partner for him and we are laughing.

This didn't age well. Nearly as productive at giving the ball away?

What’s their purpose then? Why do they sit camped on top of the back four? They’re not helping us control games, they aren’t creating or scoring lots of goals. What’s their purpose?

They've got us so far and deserve credit but Jesus do we need a quality midfielder this summer. I don't like any of the combinations we have at the moment.

They are shitting the bed this last few weeks. Not good enough, brutally exposed. Zero consistency. Get Rice or Camavinga in please, our midfield spine is useless.

He was shite tonight, 100%. I have no problem admitting his form is patchy. He predictably gave the ball away close to goal. The same thing happened to Pogba when he went to the middle. Fred needs someone better than mct with 66% passing in the first half. That’s brutal.

Considering how bad they are suppose to be, given how many games they played, how did we get to second and a final.....? They are not the best but they do provide a platform for us to play. It's proven to be successful for most of the season. Next level, maybe not but they are not alone. Our big players need to be more consistent too.....

Our first 11 is crying out for a midfield conductor who has the ability to retain possession and break lines and spread play to a high level, along with having the discipline to understand the positional role, both on/off the ball. Let's impose our game on the opposition rather than worry about just shielding the defence, because having a midfield conduit will see us impose our game on the opposition. We need a Modric type midfielder as a priority IMO, along with a CB.

The last time I watched football, the midfield is probably the most important position in the pitch. I therefore know that based on a successful season, they have contributed to it. The problem is, what people want from their midfielders, they aren't it but it works for the team. There has only been 1 team better than us in the league and only 2 better last season. If you want to see something different, Utd will need a different manager as I don't believe we are buying a CDM this year. The only links are more based on what Fans think we need, not what I believe Ole wants.....
