We are shit against high preassure, one would think that after doing it for 3 years players would have improved at it but thats not the case.

Maybe the middle ground here (and to avoid the usual Ole is great versus Ole is average shite) is what does the caf think about hiring a dedicated Head coach?

Ole himself says he doesn't run training, so how about finding someone who is happy to run training but work under Ole - essentially someone who doesn't want the stress and hassle of management, is probably a bit older but is tactically strong and can go in and run the coaching team because it doesn't take three years to coach an organised press. Just pay someone like Jardim a lovely salary to come in and work with Ole on a short term deal.

We lost because our best central defender was sitting in the stadium.

People crying about losing to Liverpool when we are miles above them in the table :houllier:

Liverpool were without their 4 best centre backs. It's Liverpool ffs and even if they were in the second division it would not be nice to lose to them at home . Add to that the fact that we had the chance to end their cl hopes with even a draw at home makes this a disgusting performance. Injuries are part & parcel of the game but professional players playing like they have met for the first time is absolutely embarrassing

Oh come on. This team isn't coached to beat a press. Now don't tell me that's down to players because Liverpool defenders are worse than ours and they literally had no problem in passing from back.

Sounds great. What Carlos Queiroz is up to these days?

Wow...
Such a great fan. Just roll on the easiest of excuses and call others crying when they state, this sucked...
As if Maguire would have stopped us from misplacing passes all over the shop and trying to be as direct as humanly possible by launching balls forward no matter what happend.

I am not criticizing the manager just now because I didn't see any obvious mistakes but having seen how isolated Bruno was, how quiet Cavani and how shit Pogba was compared to last weeks, I am pretty sure that Liverpool was very well prepared and set up to deal with us. And it worked a treat.

A few minutes after kickoff, I feel it is a missed chance for some bonus points for the manager...

We just don't know how to play from back or how to beat the press. Liverpool defense was there for taking. What did we do? We just exposed ourselves to them.

We are entering Ole's third year and we can't make 3 passes from back.
For that you need good technical players who pass it quickly without first putting in half a dozen touched on the ball.

Remember we hammered Leipzig... And beat city about ten times.... And Liverpool ???? So how did we do that without being coached to beat the press. This thread is magic

This is what I see week in, week out? The odd 20 minute cameo shouldn't be fooling anyone, theres little or no cohesion and that shows if and when we lose 1 or 2 big hitters.

Whether you want to stick that on Ole or his coaching staff is neither here nor there as the buck stops at the manager.

We are an awfully coached team. I've seen absolutely nothing to dispel this theory.

Tell that to the Liverpool central defenders who started today.
We never put them under continuous pressure throughout the game. Once we started gifting goals heads dropped and the scouse backline went away untested.

Look at their CBs ffs.
Their CBs didnt do the mistakes our midfielders/defenders did, that's the difference. We handed the game to them, going into the second half, Fred does the occasional brainfart and basically destroys the whole plan we had for the second half. Pogba loses his marker at the end of first half and we go trailing... individual mistakes are unforgivable at this stage of the season and in a game of this magnitude.

I think this second place finish is built on a very fragile base and in any other season we won't come back from behind to win so often . Obviously decisions in football have to be made on results but good management & owners should be able to look beyond just the results. Unfortunately Glazers don't really care enough to give a shit

That's exactly what I said. We don't know how to press high or play from back.

If the glazers cared they should sack ole... Should they wait til after the final or just do it now? We could really play slick football in the final if they got it done now.

So we didnt win against them in the FA cup? Did they forget to press then?

The reason they beat us with the press anyway is still because Mctominay and Fred's weakness is the press - you would have seen a goals vs Roma and Aston villa with the press pushing our midfielders deeper and causing them to react badly. Same shit here in Liverpool with it being worse because we have absolutely no one controlling our defensive line.

Look at the 3rd goal Liverpool scored today- your telling me that Maguire wouldnt have stopped that?

So you thought we were comfortable with the sort of press Liverpool produced? Do you think it was just bad luck, that so many of our players were having an off-day technique- and passing-wise today?

And for the record, we beat City once this season. Once this year... So even if we were prepared to deal with press a year ago, doesn't mean we are still today, don't you think?

There has been progress obviously but no we're not close to winning the league and yes I'd say realistically we're behind City, Liverpool and Chelsea if you compare their squads to ours. Liverpool have been fecked ever since they lost VVD (and others) and Chelsea had been criminally underperforming under Lampard but we won't be so lucky next season. Hope Ole manages to clear out some more deadwood (at least Matic, Mata and Jones, possibly loan out or sell Williams and James) and gets some quality reinforcements in.

FA cup match, they didn't press us this much. It was almost like Klopp gen Gen press was back today. We just couldn't deal with it. We couldn't make simple passes, simple pass and move things just to beat their press. Not saying there wasn't individual mistakes but Liverpool was there for taking. We could have picked then apart.

Do you think it was just good luck that we keep 'beating the press without being coached to beat a press'

Please keep your smartarse sarcasm to yourself. I never said that the Glazers should sack him . Firstly they should back him if they think he is the right man but also keep an open mind on things & look at the performances . The hope is that Ole can build on from here and take the team to the next level but I genuinely think that this can get bad really quickly for United too. This team is fragile and anyone who hasn't got a tinted view towards the club can see it

I don’t think any sensible person draws conclusions from the last couple of matches.

City didnt play a high press game like Liverpool today. At OT it was very defensive performance from them. At Etihad, they pressed but it was more of a controlled pressing. Never had 2-3 guys chasing us like a pack of wolves.

Everyone talks about how a team’s philosophy is to play out from the back but unless you know what the next pass is and the one after that, you get what happened tonight.

Well, this argument doesn’t really win when Liverpool have van Dijk out for the season. He is literally the reason why we are above them in the table (at least by this margin), so let’s compare numbers next season when he and Maguire both play 35+ games. Not trying to be a buzz kill here, but this Liverpool-team will match us pretty well next season when he’s back.

Absolutely, Ole isn't the coach to coach these players and show them how to do ot otherwise we wouldn't be I this predicament. Ole doesn't improve players like pep and some other managers can.
