I mean... if he grew long hair it would work...
I love the casual xenophobia. The Europa League, the cup for the Albanians and Bulgarians, should never be a factor for progress for a team like United. It is always fantastic to lift a trophy, but yeah… it’s a shit competition. Villarreal are 20 points behind 4th in Spain, Roma 15 points behind in Italy.
Yeah it's starting to look like a Jones situation already and that is scary2 deflected goals and half the team was wank. Pogba Bailley lindelof Henderson McTom Fred all had poor games and that probably shows the merit of Maguire. The glaring fact we need a WC or as close as possible CD and DM to come in in the summer. Why we have given Bailley a new contract ill never know.
It also ignores that our shaky defense had an equally shaky GK behind them, and a midfield having a mare in front of them. Liverpool's dodgy defense got protection and support from their midfielders, ours didn't.How does them having defenders out mean us missing a guy so important he'd played every minute in the league for us doesn't count? We are then expected to find 2 defensive partnerships for 2 games in 3 days, out of options deemed not worthy of replacing Maguire for a single minute beforehand, against two teams who both desperately need to win. Shock horror we are defensively all over the place, but pointing the circumstances out is somehow small time mentality.
Would get some hope again IF we got the CB, CDM & RW we badly need this summer but that certainly shouldn't stop the protests at alli am afraid the hope I had is gone.
Liverpool are fecking terrible and we, well we are worse
Have to say, even if it's not popular on this forum, I was concerned the knock-on effect of the postponement would disturb what was a pretty good momentum at that point. The biggest losers from it are the players and the fans.Well done protestors, for disrupting the team and helping Liverpool get CL football.
See it's not going to be thaattt bad
I mean, I'm strictly hetero but I'm not gonna lie, Lindelof in a dress does it for me.
Yeah. Wouldn't be surprised if some of our players are holding back a bit as well, knowing that we're done with the league for the season and have a final coming up.To be fair we’ve been on a mad schedule whilst Liverpool have nothing else to play for and are desperate to rescue their awful season. They were a lot fresher than us.
We're 13(10+3) points behind ourselves. We're probably the fourth best team in England right now. Right now this is probably our level, maybe CL quarter finals at best. Sad but true.
I was hoping Tuanzebe would get the nod for this match, I think he's physically a better pairing with Lindelöf in Maguire's absence.Unacceptable to lose two at home this week, especially with throwing the Leicester game. Felt like a team saving their last 20% for Gdansk.
Bailly and Lindelof are a MASSIVE concern for the Europa League final.
Don't want to dwell too much more on tonight.
It does count, just as it counts for them playing without Van Dijk and Matip and Gomez. How does them having defenders out mean us missing a guy so important he'd played every minute in the league for us doesn't count? We are then expected to find 2 defensive partnerships for 2 games in 3 days against two teams who both desperately need to win. Shock horror we are defensively all over the place, but pointing the circumstances out is somehow small time mentality.
And he said "Net"Feck off Souness with the billion pounds spent, any chance of you actually having the balls to acknowledge how much they have taken out
Exactly.A 20 year old who was playing on loan at Kidderminster in non league last year, I believe too!
Nobody thought we would get near this Liverpool squad this season. We saw tonight the reason (missing by far our best CB) why we have.It does count, just as it counts fot them playing without Van Dijk and Matip and Gomez.
They have played the whole season without their two best defenders and are now looking at being 7 points behind us despite that. They also played with a makeshift defence against us today fielding a 20 year old, thats why I feel it's no excuse
Imagine us without Maguire Lindelof and Baily for the whole season..Nobody thought we would get near this Liverpool squad this season. We saw tonight the reason (missing by far our best CB) why we have.
Ah I mean we've conceded what the second most from set pieces this season but its okay because in 2019/2020 we didnt?Just a coaching / reversion to mean thing, they'll fix it. We didn't concede as many set piece goals with the same tactics in 2019/20.
Again, why are you referring to last season as if it somehow makes what we've done this season okay? You must also be able to identify that teams adjusted to us this season and we haven't hadan answer to it.Plenty of wins against big teams in the season before. 1 win in 8, but we've had like 5 draws as well. "Any phase of the game" is nonsense, we're fine in defence, offense, transitioning to defense.
Unless you're excluding everyone bar City / Pool as "top" sides, we do alright at controlling games as well.
Well that's a giant lie right there.More possession against every single team that's not City / Pool.
Can't handle the City / Pool press. Plenty of teams including PSG, RBL and every mid table team in the PL tried to press us high and got burned.
I wasn't talking about Pogba, I was talking about Rashford obviously. Guess you missed the Leicester game in the FA Cup too?Pogba was magnificent on the left since injury. It's not really shoe horning someone to play them in a role they like and are excelling in.
Pray tell when we've been burned by these issues in the past two months.
Yup, quite disheartening to be honest. I guess Greenwood starting the previous three was why Ole benched him but I feel at this stage a tired Greenwood on the right is a far better option that Rashford on the right who barely even looks like he's trying when out there.This. It all looked way too familiar. Broken up and unable to transition.
Didn't help at all benching Greenwood for Pogba when we clearly needed both, Mason to push them back (or else punish them) and Pogba deeper to help with the outball/buildup, more so in the absence of Maguire.
Same old shit really.
Imagining us with Bailly playing for the whole season is bad enough.Imagine us without Maguire Lindelof and Baily for the whole season..
What's the point in putting arbitrary barriers like last season / this season? The tactics are the same. Teams don't decide magically that they want to wait till end of season before they play a certain way against us.Ah I mean we've conceded what the second most from set pieces this season but its okay because in 2019/2020 we didnt?
They've had all season to 'fix it' and they haven't.
Again, why are you referring to last season as if it somehow makes what we've done this season okay? You must also be able to identify that teams adjusted to us this season and we haven't hadan answer to it.
Again Pool / City high press we struggle against. Basically every team in the world struggles against that - PSG with Veratti did, RM with Kroos did. There are no magic incantations to fix this beyond just hiring Pep. We still do fairly well playing direct and on the counter. Bruno quarter backing Rashford / Greenwood / Martial running in behind was our strategy against these teams and we employed that very successfully against City. And no we don't control games against the better sides, not at all. Liverpool today between about the 30th and 68th minute basically stopped us from even having a shot on goal and created severa; chances. They did this by dominating the ball, taking the ball of us at will and recycling possession. We don't seem to be able to do this. It is LITERALLY something every Championship winning side have in their locker.
I'm happy to argue more if you post the stats but if my memory serves right we weren't really outclassed possession wise against any team in the league / Europe this season bar City / Pool. And we've beat them City and Pool this season already.Well that's a giant lie right there.
We didn't have more possession in any of the games against Man City, Liverpool, Leicester and Chelsea this season. I don't see us having more possession than West Ham etc as something to brag about, its expected.
Right back at you. Every single team including Southampton, Westham, Leeds, Brighton, Arsenal, Everton tried to press us high. Do you watch any united games at all?I don't really know what games you're watching that you think every mid table team try to press us high. Most of them sit back and try to restrict us space. Do you even watch our matches? Mid table teams aren't naive enough to do so. When the actual top sides do it against us, especially this season, we tend to struggle including against feckign Arsenal at home.
That's one player playing out of position and even then it's not like you're asking a striker to play at left back. His role functionally is to make intelligent runs in behind for Bruno to hit and beat a fullback when 1v1. He's better at it when he's off the left but it's not really rocket science to translate that to the right.I wasn't talking about Pogba, I was talking about Rashford obviously. Guess you missed the Leicester game in the FA Cup too?
Bigoted and also wrong given that the last few years has beenI love the casual xenophobia.
And what about the countless other times this season he's played Rashford on the right? And he's mostly been invisible? Everybody see's how shit he is out there but Ole it seems. He played 70 minutes 48 hours ago.
Remarkable comments considering teams such as Man city, Arsenal and Chelsea literally changed up the way they played against us this season because they didn't want to get hit on the counter. What's the point in putting arbitrary barriers like last season / this season? The tactics are the same. Teams don't decide magically that they want to wait till end of season before they play a certain way against us.
Again, they've had all season and they haven't. When do we see substantial change? It's already cost us on numerous occasions this season. They've been trying to fix it somewhat unsuccessfully already. Plenty of chatter about winning the first header from Ole / the players. There were also a bunch of scrappy goals like the corner today where it was more random than just bad defence.
It's one of the easier problems to solve and I'm pretty confident they'll get it right eventually.
We struggled with Arsenal's press, we struggled with Brightons press, we struggled with RBL's press...... And of course I expect that up against city and Liverpool you'll have periods of being penned in but failing to have a shot and struggling to keep the ball for 40 fecking minutes during a match where Liverpool had two rookies at centre back is completely unacceptable.Again Pool / City high press we struggle against.
Google all of those matches and you'll see, wont take longer than five minutes.....I'm happy to argue more if you post the stats but if my memory serves right we weren't really outclassed possession wise against any team in the league / Europe this season bar City / Pool. And we've beat them City and Pool this season already.
Chelsea under Tuchel vs us had more of the ball but not really anywhere dangerous. Chelsea under Lampard we've had no problem possession wise. Leicester we've had more of the ball basically every single game we've played (even the one with the kids).
I mean you said and I quote "every mid table team in the PL tried to press us high and got burned" to which I replied and I quote "most of them sit back". Notice nowhere did I use an absolute.Right back at you. Every single team including Southampton, Westham, Leeds, Brighton, Arsenal, Everton tried to press us high. Do you watch any united games at all?
Rashford is not a right winger, he never plays well there, so sticking him there is shoehorning him into the team. It's not rocket science to work out that if you do something 9 times and it fails 9 times its probably not going to be successful the 10th time you try it.That's one player playing out of position and even then it's not like you're asking a striker to play at left back. His role functionally is to make intelligent runs in behind for Bruno to hit and beat a fullback when 1v1. He's better at it when he's off the left but it's not really rocket science to translate that to the right.
We specifically rested the whole team on Tuesday to avoid this being an excuse...To be fair we’ve been on a mad schedule whilst Liverpool have nothing else to play for and are desperate to rescue their awful season. They were a lot fresher than us.
Describing seasons as 'arbitrary barriers'?!What's the point in putting arbitrary barriers like last season / this season? The tactics are the same. Teams don't decide magically that they want to wait till end of season before they play a certain way against us.
